mesmer interrupt/pu.. what do i do?

call your team or run away. also take spinal shivers
i will never get the mesmer low enough for it to proc so it makes no difference plus i usually do take spinal shivers when i was using dagger warhorn and never really noticed it go off or change the fight in any way.
with the axe buff i get a burst every 6 seconds and 10% damage .. it really does wreak havoc when i jump down in the middle of a fight usually taking out at least one person straight away after forcing dodges with wells
i usually run into these mesmers when i need to go take a point of interest like kill savanir or on my way to a fight if i get killed

PU you can beat, if it’s a lockdown mesmer you are dead. It’s a true hardcounter to any necro. Good thing they are rare. I have the same problem with panic strike theives.

Winning a 1v1 against a mesmer who will undoubtedly interrupt your heal is super hard. Your best hope is that you use your cooldowns wisely and you have plenty of life force. If you can survive the initial burst you can start hitting back, but otherwise you are in trouble.
Honestly against really good Mesmers I’ll just pop locust swarm and leave, and hope that the next time you see them before they see you. A lot of mesmers are super hard to beat in that scenario if they are allowed to set up and range properly, but otherwise it’s not so bad.
If we’re talking about 1v1…
Secure your heal by fearing the opponent first, LoSing him, porting with Wurm. If you’re using this on an open field, with mesmer at his full capability, yes you’ll get interrupted a lot. Play smart.
The mesmer you’re talking about is a relic shatter mesmer. Couple tips from me:
If you get Immobilized, hop into Shroud straight away. If you’ve equipped Weakning Shroud trait, you should hit the mesmer and weaken him b4 the combo starts. Retaliation from either Unholy Feast (with Mesmer you will easily maintain almost 100% Retaliation boon uptime if you Feast smart) or Spiteful Spirit from entering DS will hurt him quite badly with Frenzy hits. Most Mesmers don’t shatter b4 frenzy ends, so he should eat up whoole retaliation.
Focus on dodging iZerker and Mirrored Blade (flying GS). You can predict when the shatter combo occurs, but it’s mostly deduction and you can miss. So unless you feel cozy with it, keep dodging those 2 skills, it will really hurt his damage. If you can’t attack him for some reason, focus iDuellist (pistols).
Be quite aggressive, your channeled Axe #2 with procs can hit the mesmer through stealth and eat 30-60% of hp alone.
Well build is also kind of bad for any 1v1. Corrupt Boon, Spectral Armor, Wurm -> these utilities are universal Necro choice of mine for almost any kind of PvP. And they hurt, good Corrupt Boon on a mesmer, especially one using stuff, can be a shutdown.
Ah. Locust Swarm works wonders against any Mesmer.

Pretty sure he is talking about lockdown mesmer not shatter mesmer. They are different. We have a chance agaisnt shatter mesmer. No chance vs lockdown Unless they are just really bad.

General idea about interrupting is the same – LoS, secure your heal with Fear, avoid crap with Wurm.
Interrupt Mesmer is indeed harder, but on an open field. Get them into more tight position and they fall apart.

Up until reading this I wasn’t even aware of any type of mesmer being considered a serious threat to necros.
Rym already said everything there is to fighting mesmers 1v1, regardless of what build they are using. (except I wouldn’t use Flesh Wurm)
If you have decent life force regeneration and Shroud timing you’re definitely holding better cards than any mesmer opponent.

I’ve messed around with a particular mesmer enough and I think the lockdown mesmer is a rarer breed everyone is either pu, standard shatter, double range shatter or my new favorite double range cele shatter. I can usually win against a traditional shatter, cele shatter and PU. Lockdown and double range shatter are much much harder if the mesmer is decent. Lockdown significantly harder.
I’m not talking about a mesmer that’s going to actually try and take a point from you or hold one.
I’m interested in what builds you are both playing or apparently everyone in the Necro community is playing that make a high dps range class with ports not a threat.

even in “tight spaces” its just as bad as on an open field because now they are porting on top of buildings and i cant even get to them…
if the area is more open then i cant even attack them because its 1200 range vs 600
eh… it is the way it is i guess, im not built for 1v1 or i would be useless for my team

You can win as a condi necro like noscocs build, but it requires very good use of wurm, walk and effective use of fears.

As someone who mains a mesmer and necro I would like to give you some advice. First of all, just because a mesmer has boons doesnt make them pu. They are most likely lockdown. Bountiful interruption is a master trait that gives mesmers 5 stacks of might on interrupt plus a random boon. This trait has no cool down. Halting strike does damage to foes on interrupt. This coupled with all that might can be violent. There is another skill called chaotic interruption that immobolizes plus applies blind, chill, or cripple to an interrupted taget. These skills are the most common skills for a lockdown mesmer to take.
The best way to deal with them is stability which you dont have great access to as a necro. Another strategy could be to bait out the interrupts/stuns because they often have long cooldowns. You can count them. Theres Mantra of distraction which only has 2 charges (3 when traited), has a long cd period and takes almost 2 seconds of cast time to recharge if they blow it. Pistol has one daze, sword offhand has one daze, staff has an aoe daze effect, greatsword has a knockback and focus has a pull. It is possible to dodge most of these interrupts, but you need to be paying attention to what theyre using and be ready.
Another piece of useful information. Conditions like chill, blind and immobolize wreck mesmers just as much as they do necros and a lockdown mesmers wont have a lot of condition clear. Furthermore, like necro, mesmer is vulnerable to knockdowns, knockbacks, fears, and pulls. Mesmers have LESS access to stability than necros but we have more escapes.
A lockdown mesmers power relied on you reacting first. Watch them, theyll try and bait out a skill with a long cast time then bam you panic and get chain stunned, immobied, chilled, blinded while they get 20 odd stacks of might.
Dont be aggressive at th start, just kite and wait for them to make a false move or blow one too many interrupts then be aggressive. Power necro has amazing dps and you can out dps a lock down mesmer any day but if youre not cautious theyll shut you down.
But a fight between a good lockdown mesmer and a good power necro?i would put my money on the mesmer everytime. Its a tough matchup.
The other thing is lockdown builds come in a wide variety from condi lockdown to phantom interrupt builds to power block builds to just normal shatter builds that run lots of interrupts. Just know that there is a large variety of builds out there. I like messing around with glamour confusion lockdownbuild in hotjoin just for fun. I got upto 17 stacks of confusion on a targer one time but too bad the duration sucks haha.
I suggest dagger/warhorn instead of axe/warhorn but which ever you’re most comfortable with is best.
I rarely have trouble against Mesmers on my Necromancer whether I’m condition, power or hybrid. Dark Pact is an insanely powerful skill that if timed properly can be a death sentence for whomever is unfortunate enough to be hit by it. I find that landing Dark Pact then immediately following with Tainted Shackles and Doom is a good way to shut most people down, of course given you follow up with some damage from Life Blast or dagger AA.
It sounds cheesy but personally I prefer to LOS Mesmers and Rangers any time I have the chance to do it. If there’s a wall nearby use it and force them to get close to you. The second they circle around or get within melee range lock them down. Unless it’s a shatter Mesmer you should be able to just cleave their clones down from behind the wall until they make themselves vulnerable to you.
Also note that the LOSing strategy will get you a lot of hatemail so only use that if you’re prepared for rage :P. I couldn’t tell you how many times people have lost their minds on me because I’ll refuse to fight them unless I can kite them behind a wall. Of course, I don’t this with everyone, but against the right builds screw that, I’ll LOS them all day if it means it’ll get me a win, lol.

it was definitely a pu build as they always seem to have a bunch of boons after they stealth not to mention the constant use of stealth………….. sometimes they take torch
i am happy to los people.. that is the game after all just like the thief gets a free 5-6 second fear stun and boons just for pressing f1…………….
even if i wait for them to waste stuns most will not cast them and just wait at 1200 ranger spawning clones on me

The amount of times ive been accused of being a PU mesmers by other players. The only place you really see PU is wvw SOMETIMES.…PU is not good in spvp unless you want to troll. If you died to a power PU mesmer then for shame haha. But i honestly think youre confused about the build your opponent was using there are multiple minor and major traits, not to mention skills that give boons to mesmers. Just because they had boons when they came out of stealth doesnt mean much.
Based on your limited description it seems like a double ranged shatter mesmer or lockdown mesmer. But you can never be sure because there is scope for a lot of experimentation with mesmer. You always meet the odd signet shatter mesmer with distortion/invulnerabilities/reflexts coming out of their kitten .
My previous advice still stands though. Even a power necro can out dps a shatter mesmer. Just dont blow your …( ^-^)????.:*:?’°?? tooo soon. Hehe.

Lockdown mesmers have more stuns that probably have lower cooldowns than you have stunbreaks.

Just to add to this, lockdown mesmers are extremely rare currently and I can name the people that play it on NA (only about 3-5 that can play it well). They are a very nasty matchup for necro, as it has very easy things to interrupt (especially heal) and can be blown up when death shroud is on cd just from 1 interrupt.
The key to beating a lockdown mes is to get your heal off somehow, whether it by foot in the grave or line of sighting (Flesh wurm can save your life with this) as well as getting as much life force as possible from staff auto or other ways . The worst thing I personally encounter is when I interrupt a necro and he has full ds in which he can kill me if I don’t kite long enough.

Aand as we’ve been testing with Rylock today, at 4 am, I have two conclusions:
-Good interrupt mes is a huge pain in the bum as you have to really lockdown (sic!) interrupt mesmer to force him defensive first.
-My Power build does the job much better, fighting 1v1 and scoring with a slight advantage.

I agree with these tips. However, I personally think your condi and power necro were both very scary to fight against, and I dare say as scary as Noscoc, but your power necro just has so much life force thanks to warhorn 5 and spectral armor I pretty much had to wait out your ds in which you could easily kill me if I didn’t kite. Also I would say it was pretty even on your power necro. Perhaps I will need moa and less EU lag to tip the scales a bit more in my favor

I know I’m all late, but I thought I might be able to help a bit.
You can spot a lockdown Mesmer by checking their icons. Mantra of Distraction is staple to lockdown Mesmer, and you’ll see the two charges on their bar. These are your biggest threat, as they are instant and unavoidable.. But there are only two every 30s. Conserve skills until you notice the Mesmer has blown their two mantra charges and every other interrupt we have (generally 5 interrupts) is more telegraphed and easier to deal with.
I say that like its easy but.. Its really not. x.x
