I have a question in regards to gearing a condition based necro. I see most people recommend going precision/toughness/condition for gear. After looking for this gear it seems rather expensive compared to condition/vit/power gear.

Is it really worth it? The precesion only seems to add a small amount of extra damage through the bleed crit procs. On the other hand i can see the power also being semi useful for ds abilities staff 1 ect.

Just wondering what the community thinks of this. I’m about to hit 80 and start gearing myself.

I would definitely not go with precision as your main stat. Since you’re a condition build, condition should be your main stat. Secondary and tertiary would be precision and vitality, not toughness. Although toughness can be useful, vitality favors Necros a bit better since it increases not only our health pool, but also our life force pool, and we have a HUGE vitality class modifier. End game necros can get over 26k in health, if you need to be tougher than that then you just need to stop standing in the fire. Whether you prioritize vitality or precision depends on what you doing I suppose, but naturally precision is better for dps.

Necros have a vitality class modifier? Where did you hear that? According to the wiki, vitality increases health pool by 10 per point and does not mention any exception for necromancers. The argument I have heard when it comes to toughness vs vitality is that necros have such a high health pool already, so toughness will help make the most of all that health. I did not know about vitality increasing the life force pool (which I verified to be true), so that is something to consider.

Rabid and similar gear has condition damage as the primary stat and precision/toughness as the secondary stats, so it is popular amongst necros.

What Krippler says.
At 80 1 point of vitality (on armor or rings or weapons) = 10 health points. You will have a base of around 20k, toughness is generally more useful to necros.
TBH its probably not a big deal whether you go for precision or power as one of the tertiary stats, the bleed procs are nice though.

Precision is good if you have a lot and use earth sigil. If you can get to + 100% bleed duration even your barbed precision will do 200+ damage per proc. If you make 20 attacks in a fight at 50% crit rate, that is over 1000 damage added. Earth Sigil could proc 6 times in such a fight, each time adding over 500 damage if its not removed. It adds up.

Power is more for front end damage, but means you have to stick in a fight and constantly attack, which synergizes less with attrition play style. Power can be better if you are fighting a heavy condition removal profession obviously, as there is a trade off point for bleeds that your precision will proc, they need to run several ticks to make up the difference.

Your bleeds can also proc in Death Shroud, so even there power has no special advantage for a condition build.

Power also does nothing for epidemic, which should be one of your bread and butters as a condition spec, while precision gives you more bleeds to spread.

If you put points in Soul Reaping your crits do more damage, so critting more works in tandem.

@Specter, look on the TP for rare-level “Strong” armor. There are several stat combinations, including CondDmg,/Prec/Tough. Its very inexpensive.

Precision is good if you have a build where you are using ‘on crit’ sigils and/or want some decent DS1/DS4 hits without dumping alot into Power.

Stealth nerfs are the perfect fertilizer for mistrust.

Thanks for the responses!

I didn’t realize with sigil of earth the proc added up that much damage. It also seems that toughness gives more effective health then Vit since we already have enough hp going.
