Ranger

  • Fixed a bug where aquatic ranger pets could sometimes get on land.
  • Drake Pet: This pet will now activate its Tail Swipe skill on a regular basis, and the casting time of that skill has been reduced by 1.25 seconds.
  • Entangle: This skill’s bleed effects now properly scale with condition damage and duration.
  • Sharpening Stone: The number of uses on this skill’s effect will now decrease if an attack lands or if the attack is negated by Blind, Block, Evade, Obstructed, or Invulnerable.
  • Opening Strikes: The number of uses on this skill’s effect will now decrease if an attack lands or if the attack is negated by Blind, Block, Evade, Obstructed, or Invulnerable.

Good job, and well done!

BUT, we still need a lot of ranger fixing. Traits, Spirits, Pet AI, pet AoE damage, omg I could go on for ever.

Lets just hope they fix those in the next patch.

I would point out that there were few changes to classes in general that weren’t bug fixes, we in fact got one of the few buffs going for anyone, and technically its only a bug fix.

How was it functioning previously? Block/blind/evade wouldn’t reduce your uses? So in essence nerfing effectiveness of opening strike and sharpening stone?

As far as I could see, no professions got any real changes. Its just business as usual.

I’m really looking forward to the day ranger gets some decent caring!

As it is now, warrior (maybe guardian) seems to be the right prof to level for dungeons / Fractals. And thief for www.

Ranger, still the non-wanted kid on the play ground.

If the drake has indeed been fixed, it could definately have uses for dungeons if your teammates are specialized towards laying down combo fields.

They’re still pretty bad for PvP and WvW, though. Their main attack is just way too slow.

Ranger rocks for PVP/WvW, it is bad at dungeons but hey, can’t be perfect. it is still not too bad tho, about 1/3 damge of a melee warrior, considering u have the safety of the range is not too bad, pets stupidity in dugeons is a problem tho. Ranged thief damage is worst and warrior ranged is hits only for about 30% over the ranger, u see big numbers as a warrior but warrior skills have long cast time. I think entangle think will be awesome for PVP using the trap 0/30/30/5/5 build can’t wait

:( i want to use the sword so bad but auto atack is just so…. terrible :S well every class has unviable weapons i guess sword will still be the ranger one. I think may be thief is the best in this department every weapon combination can be deadly lol

If I’m not mistaken, all “For the next X hits, do Y” functionality was expended every time you performed an attack. This is a pretty darn big change for melee users in general because general map mobility doesn’t expend passive procs (eg: Opening Strikes), nor does being slightly out of range. Now it’s only expended when you either hit a target or would hit a target if not for some other effect (Block, Evade, Blind, etc).

1/3 damage is a huge exaggeration and, if true, it’s only true for this particular build (probably not even counting DoT even though that’s what the build is focused on). I think statements like this contribute to the common practice of excluding rangers from dungeons, particularly Arah.

You don’t know that until we’ve tested it. Also, selling your account will get the account banned for what it’s worth (if you care/didn’t already know) if somehow ANET ever found out that it isn’t you playing anymore (different name on credit card for example).

Yes, their main attack is so slow. If only rangers had an elite skill that properly worked and also rooted enemies in place long enough for the drake to unload full confusion…

I really hope there is a stealth fix or something for pet ai and follow range, because it gets annoying when your pet aggros everything when you simply stop running and the stupid thing goes about 2 miles down the road without you.

Other than that, I think I like what I see. I’m not an 80 ranger that’s played over 1000+ hours, but when I see some of you more experienced rangres saying this isn’t a bad patch, then I take that for what it sounds like.

I’ve jumped over to the condi build as well, and have seen levelling go by much easier, combined with being a beastmaster, makes everything even easier. I’ve grown to like the shortbow and axe+warhorn/axe+axe style a lot. I guess I’d only really use the LB when in WvW.

Yes, their main attack is so slow. If only rangers had an elite skill that properly worked and also rooted enemies in place long enough for the drake to unload full confusion…

And if only every class did not have some way of instantly escaping said elite skill…

I already tested it and it’s not that big of a change since entangle is still one of the easiest to dodge skills.
In WvW people are already not kitten enough to dodge it but in spvp people will laugh about you. Stunbreakers are a must-have there, if you even land it after the 60 second animation it needs.

The rest is nothing.

They cant prove it, I havent spent money on their store yet. I actually just got done testing it, ranger is really the same. Entangle is nice but it still gets broken with leap skills or 2-3 attacks from melee, kinda pointless for 150 sec cd. Doesnt change the fact that they haev done nothing to make power/crit builds viable when compared to condi builds.

I don’t care, it couldn’t possibly disappoint me with the “Ranger” more than ArenaNet has. ArenaNet has been my worst experience as a Ranger in my whole MMORPG life and that’s big of me to say, cause I’m a soul lover of Archery and Bows. I was really hoping this patch would do more. Not to sound ungreatful I’m glad they made some effort, but this isn’t effort for balancing the Ranger and making it equal, cause ever profession has been given equal if not MORE care then the Ranger, so if anything it’s made us even weaker to the other professions… And to be frank it disappoints me greatly =[ I don’t even know what to do now >_>

I still don’t know why ppl complain so much about the ranger damage tbh, condition wise i very decent it owns in sPVP/WvW, i never used a power/crt spec cuz i find my warrior much better at that, but the ranger is just fine, the fact direct damage is not the comparable to other classes don’t make ranger useless, actually ranger is one of the most versatile classes, along with elementalist and very strong in 1vs 1, if they give ranger more damage output they would have to nerf some other aspects which tbh i don’t know if would be good. I just love my ranger the way it is. In 1 vs 1 only a highly skilled GC thief can take me down particulary in WvW, in sPVP i actually i win 4/5 fights vs thiefs. Even while my warrior can crt for 25k in WvW using the rifle it pretty much depends on not being spoted, focused, it is imposible to roam with it, while on my cond ranger can roam take campments easy kill yaks, lonelly noobs, so much fun.
I also don’t see any OP classes atm, i mean some classes have sick burst, some other are unkillable, i think ranger stands right in between.

Ahah i posted a bug report about this. Let me know about that…i think the shortbow looked exactly like the corrupted longbow didn’t it? Now is it smaller and shorter like it is supposed to be? I can’t believe they fixed this.

Pets have respectable burst as well, like birds and (now) drakes.

I have actually been stomped while in a take root so I wouldn’t rely on the “invulnerable” perk too much. The other major problem with entangle is that it stops working if they leave the vines which means if they can teleport or get hit with knock-backs/pulls they are freed from the effect entirely.

It’s pretty good in pve assuming CC isn’t being thrown around but it’s not worth passing RaO over in pvp even with this fix.
