Beastly Warden is poop
You’re not seeing just how good this skill is..
Thieves: you can use f2 in an aoe and make the thief target AND attack the pet to put him out of stealth
Warriors: When they go for a killshot you can use your pet f2 to taunt the pet and divert that dmg to your pet and then swap
Mesmer: same with thief after they mass invis / or pop torch invis (or decoy)
Not only does it interrupt, but it physically makes them target the pet which can hurt play for the other person in combat.
This is from a PvP perspective, I really don’t see it being that useful at all in PVE though.

Well, I’ve been playing PVE a lot since thats where the game needs the most work and I wanted to see if the new changes improved it at all. So, yeah, it sucks in PVE but I can see it in PVP.
Shortbow … your pet taunts … you have at their flank.
Trap … they stand in it because they are taunted by your pet.
Longbow … they aren’t countering your rapid fire because of the taunt.
It’s another CC … so many good uses.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.
Dude, CC doesn’t do anything in PvE. Think through the intended game mode of a trait before you post something ridiculous like this.

Yea man… Actually I’ve been fooling with an asura interrupt build for WvW
Shortbow: Interrupt on #5
Longbow / GS: Interrupts from both choose whatever you like but prob GS and has 2 potential CC’s with #4/#5
Taunt on pet f2
Nightmare runes : #6 fears
Spike Trap: Knockdown and unblockable
Technobabble
Coupled with quick draw for a 7/8 second concussion shot on weapon swap (insane nice) and a lower block cd / interrupt cd on GS.
Out of all of them though the taunt is the best due to the way it works in general. Very nice skill overall.
It’s alot of fun chaining CC on players

Looks like another convert to the world of Ranger Moment of Clarity Interrupts :-)
I prefer Greatsword over Longbow due to 3s daze/stun from MoC … more mobility and defenses too.

Beastly Warden is my new go to trait for PvP. Excellent trait.

BW is divne , so funny when u use it on shatter mesmer.
The biggest issue I have with BW is that you never really know when it is up. Between all those different f2 cooldowns and then you even swap pet.
Really want icons for that kind of skill.
that would be nice QoL change. I use pets that have 15-20s cd on their f2’s so my BW is always up at the same time. that’s one way of doing it.
How do you guys feel about the range of the skill?
How do you guys feel about the range of the skill?
It scale according to the pet hitbox. The bigger the pet the bigger the aoe. It does scale with enlargement.
^that’s an interesting finding.
also did u guys know BW pops thieves out of their refuge? it’s pretty neat.

I was wondering about that. I was dueling a ranger last night and his Drake Hound had a huge radius around him when firing off BW. It looked like 400-500 radius.

I’d say the only real problem with it is the tiny radius.
240 is the size of a trap. I did initially think it wouldn’t be enough, but ive yet to see BW fail due to a range limitation. in fact, BW hasn’t really failed me yet, just bad plays on my part. it’s really responsive at least.

Can this really be the case, or is it just a graphical glitch? Seems rather strange I think.
I’d say the circle is according to the pets F2. Pets with an aoe on their F2 have a radius of the circle that represents the range of their F2?

The Radius was about the size of Healing Springs Radius. I asked him what trait he was using to increase the Radius and he had no idea. So it was either a graphical glitch or hit box size for the pet which was a Drake Hound.

If u go with owl and raven theyll have about 14 16s cd on their f2, among with 15s on petswap. Just make sure u wait till the same f2 is back on cd the first time before u swap pets, as there is a 15s ICD
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
This skill is balanced.
It needs that tiny radius because of it’s short cooldown and immense use. It’s a free CC that counters Thieves, It’s AoE, and maximizes the potential of everything else you can do as a Ranger. Excellent for current “2 seconds meta”.
If the radius was larger and it was made a 100% hit ability – this would be too OP. This trait is excellent in it’s current form.
I’m really liking this trait though still learning to use it at the proper time. (i.e when my pet is close enough).
This got me thinking about ranged pets. Is the skill completely useless on a spider for example whom will not be close enough (or you’ll have to kite your enemy within close range of your pet)
Would a viable alternative be proc taunt on F2 skill hit. For example a juvenile forest spider will need to hit its f2 skill poison first and then it will automatically trigger taunt pulling agro.
Thoughts?
Oh drats….
I thought this trait was f2 strikes = taunt.
Was gonna pair it with guard and blackbear for barrage setup. Would have been cool to stack camp npcs anywhere instead of los spots.
From the testing I’ve done, it does not appear to work with some pets.
The two I tried specifically were the jaguar and warthog.
With the jaguar, it looks like the enemy gets taunted, but then they just attack me anyways because the taunt breaks or something when the jaguar is stealthed. At least that’s what happens to NPCs, not 100% sure about places.
Also, the warthog doesn’t seem to be able to proc the trait at all. I imagine it’s the same for the whole porcine line of pets.

Why not sunless runes instead of nightmare? That way you get more fears and less rng.
For thieves the only skill that actually works is the good old sic’em.
The taunt again is too erratic to be useful. The radius is so small that the pet has to be on the thief, thing that will not happen if the guy is stealthed and running around.
Nice on paper, broken in real life like most of our skills.

yeah I was thinking similar. Oh maybe thief go for cnd on pet, well blinded pet would prevent it right? I don’t know I havnt checked it, just wondering if its truly as good as people think or they just want to believe their choice is good.
