Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
Sup guys!
A couple weeks ago I had asked you guys of your opinions on Mesmer. Plenty of people from both PvP and WvW chimed in with some awesome feedback, so I flipped the question the other way around for Mesmer. I figured ya’ll may be interested to see what we think of you.
Interesting to read, doesn’t look like Mesmers have a lot of nice things to say about us, lol.
One thing I find particularly intriguing is how many said they just use LoS to counter LB Rangers. I find it interesting because I actually can’t remember the last time someone tried to do that to me (outside of litterally hiding behind a wall trying to run away because they know they have already lost). I really don’t see people LoS as part of their strategy.
Maybe it’s because forum go’ers are generally better players than average.. or maybe it’s because people like to post what they think they play like in their imagination, even if it’s not what they actually do in the moment. I don’t know.. but my experience with Mesmers (and players in general) is that noone actually uses LoS in WvW.

LOL. I agree with Cufu. Never once did I see anyone LOS me. And i beg to differ, i think NON-forum goers are often better than forum goers. no offense #realtalk. This is on the mesmer forums btw.
fun to read, nice thread!
Of course there’s at least one person in there complaining about Rapid Fire tracking into stealth. Haha, such fun to read every time. xD

LoSing in PvP is fairly common. WvW players in general I find to be significantly less informed and experienced than PvPers since many of them are lost zerglings or newbies. I guesss PvP is supposed to automatically put you up against equally experienced players as well, maybe hotjoin is a mess.
Anywho, I actually prefer a mesmer LoSing me because then I can LoS him. There is one section of the ruins where there is a small hill with ramps on either side and a cliff in the middle (think NW camp only 50 times smaller.) That little hill is great for LoSing and AI-path messing mesmer clones and bursts by repeatedly climbing and jumping down. Many experienced players will look for areas like that against a roaming LB ranger, perhaps not realizing it can be used against them. By the time we engage again I have PBS, RF and HS off cooldown. :O
LB rangers have relatively low sustain, so LoS is not always your ally.
Yeah in PvP it happens a lot.. although to be honest even there I often feel people do it by accident. PvP is such a closed environment that you have to actively try NOT to LoS people when moving around.
Now, sure, many people do it on purpose. But I am pretty sure lots of them are just running around accidently walking behind things :P
All i see is “BLAH BLAH BLAH… Mesmer high skill cap ranger to ez”. And i respond “BLAH BLAH BLAH… Ranger high skill cap mesmer to ez”.
Reaching the bad ranger skill level is so easy, but reaching the good ranger skill level is really hard.
Not surprised that they called out condi ranger as the more dangerous. I am surprised no one mentioned axe though.
Axe wrecks mez better than anything.
Thx for sharing this, Chaos. Having switched from mesmer to ranger, I don’t make it back to the mesmer forums as often.
When I used to play mesmer, I basically only ran into power rangers in WvW. I thought of them as easy wins. But a group that had a couple of longbow rangers was a real pain to harass after the changes. I hated getting rapid-fired to death after slipping in and killing someone.
Now playing trapper ranger, I think most mesmers are not a problem. I don’t seem to run into many that play lockdown in WvW, so I’m not sure how I would do against them.
After reading that thread I say screw mesmers, bunch of elitists. They play the most op class in the game as far as I am concerned.
I would love to duel some of these mesmers back to back, they seem pretty confident in their abilities.

“Ranger : Wait for Uncounterable Invuln cheese to wear off, Hit it once and it dies.”
That’s what ranger is if you play it berzerker, i avoid to play condition builds because they are boring mostly melee range, that’s why i don’t even try to go condition way.
What’s sad is, mesmers complain how they cannot kill ranger, sure you will complain if you play poorly, but if both are skilled, there is no way to fight berzerker mesmer vs berzerker ranger… ranger will always lose. You can pop in 1 skill rotation.
Mesmers are the only class that I have huge problems with. It’s horrible how bursty stealthy and low cooldown they have:)
EDIT: sure i could say, i’ll just go condition, and jump around to kill them, but hey that’s boring.

I think you never watched me or Eurantien play zerker ranger haven’t you? I beat the best mesmers in the PvP scene playing power ranger.

In duels on beach Power Ranger (LB!) has major advantage over Mes. It changes once we introduce LoS and restricted areas though. Drastically.
People complaining about Mesmer burst really need to pay attention a little more, the only “instant burst” we have is GS 2-3 and F1. But if you can’t dodge an obvious projectile to stop the damage and clone creation that’s a players problem, can’t tell you’re surrounded by clones and in a prime position to be shattered? Your problem. Same way if you can’t tell the clones are all suddenly rushing towards you. There’s a lot of visual queues.
With the ranger it’s a channelled tracking attack at 1500 range either you immune, los or only partly dodge it. And it’s on a 8 second? cooldown when traited. Either suffer from the same problem, Mesmer a little less so of if they’re caught off guard they’re dead. Also most rangers I see don’t use any other weapon than their LB – Sword/Dagger is very defensive and can pressure and keep ontop of a target easily, greatsword has decent mobility, some melee burst (Though it’s pretty obvious and telegraphed) with a block which is very potent, also a daze to interrupt heals.
I play both and I feel it’s more a L2P issue, however, I do feel ranger is cheeseballs, they can 100-0 someone in one press of a button though that’s partly due to fire/air procs which I feel is what makes it potent (Same can be said for Mesmer).
