How are rangers in WvW now?
Rangers work in wvw like ninjas work in the ongoing ninjas vs. pirates debate.
If it’s 1 ranger vs 1 somebody else, the ranger does well. However, if there are a bunch of rangers and a bunch of somebody elses, the rangers will get destroyed.
Rangers are just not great in group fights. 1v1 they’re fine, but they lack zerg utility.

I disagree. I use a zerker build (just exotic armor pieces and ascended trinkets) and i make sure i kill more people from the zerg before i get killed. it’s all about positioning. it’s not that easy but with practice can still be done. btw, i played tpvp in a really long time before i tried wvw.
rangers rock!!!

On a kill ratio basis I’ld think it would be pretty hard to die more than you kill in WvW as a power ranger.
Zerg Surfing the stragglers cut from the herd. Ohh fierce scavenger.
But definitely not charging the zerg.
So good in WvW may be a matter of perception. Not feeling like I’m winning the war or anything but definitely some fun battles.
Power builds have definitely improved a bit since I left over a year ago. More to go but it’s markedly better.
And bunker builds are aplenty.
No pets don’t survive zergs well but spiders make handy mobile arrow and bullet shields.

A whittling ranger becomes viable by forcing his opponent to whittle
rangers are fine in wvw, in solo and small groups i win some fights and i lose some fights.
and in zerging I can stay alive longer then most and farm a heap of bags.
once fight size gets above about 15v15 pets just die even, bears may make it it 20v20
Rangers and thieves both get a lot of flack from warriors and guardians in zerg fights. The reality is, there are tons of squishy or wounded targets that need to be ganked. A full third or more any zerg is going to be squishy, and everyone gets wounded. A half dead warrior quickly becomes a full health warrior unless you finish him off.
I play primarily as a roamer, but thinking thieves and rangers aren’t playing a critical role in zerg clashes is doing them a big disservice. Just because warriors are doing the glorious job of eating all the damage doesn’t mean they’re actually killing more players. Thieves in particular can 1-shot the glass cannon eles that make up the majority of a zerg’s damage. Not to mention the effect on the enemy zerg’s formations.
That’s talking about berserkers. There are of course plenty of durable rangers that can wade through the middle of a zerg while eating cake, but I don’t play those nor know much about them.

What are your group utilities, as a zerker?
You tag enough people to say you killed enough to be useful, then you die and rallybot 5 foes…
Ranger’s group utilities are close to null…
Heal, that takes in explosions and takes off some alterations… Warhorn explosion… (hopefully) some CC…
not so many group utilities…

I believe he was talking about picking off squishies and wounded like I mentioned above, while supporting the main zerg with muddy terrain, entangle, cripple and pet CC. In that case you never die to rallybot people. Just pick a target, kill it, continue, stealth and evade if necessary.

exactlly. i choose the squishiest targets 1st (eles, thieves, other rangers) and then hit enemies who have low health. once detected, i stealth and change position. rangers have so much potential anywhere. you guys just have to love your own profession.
btw, i use both bows to maximize ranger’s range prowess.
