Its Still better to be a ranger ..
Hear! Hear! SB needed a nurf imo.
Just because ele is not up to par doesn’t meant ranger needed a nerf.
Not saying that, was just saying I thought SB needed a nurf.
Let me start by saying I have always preferred boosts to weak skills / weapons than nerfs to strong ones. However, I am torn about all the drama over the SB nerf.
One side of me looks back over almost every single pre-patch reference to SB being a “machine gun” and “face melter” and wonders how people did not see it coming. I for one never really cared for the SB, sure it WAS superfast but I just didn’t like the rest of the skills it brought to the table.
On the other hand, I have been in those shoes where a weapon / skillset was my favorite and what “made” the class for me only to see it get nerfed into oblivion.
Is it a nerf? Absolutely. Did I expect it? Mhm. Was it TOO heavy handed? Maybe, but I have yet to see if it made it “unplayable”. I have always been a fan of the longbow myself, so being “OK” with the damage I could get (it could use a VERY slight buff to either attack speed or damage on skill 1) I am pretty sure that playing with the now nerfed shortbow will feel about the same as my current.
TL:DR= Short bows were “machine guns” and the bat was swinging. Did the nerf bat hit too hard? Possibly.

wulfsbayne, you need to realize that anet was only supposed to make a 0.04 second animation tweak. that is not a nerf if done properly. no one is supposed to be able to notice 0.04 seconds. but everyone including myself sees it very clearly, and its even worse with quickness up. this WAS NOT supposed to be a nerf. this was a giant mistake that dealt a massive blow to a rangers already limited competitive builds. Anet needs to either fix this immediately or call it what it was. a kittening nerf
Ok not trying to call anyone a lair (for a lack of a better word, can’t think of one) but I think if Anet hadn’t said anything about the SB auto speed that most people wouldn’t have notice. Think it’s more of a placebo effect. You heard it was slower, so you feel it being slower. But i could be wrong. As for it being slower then it should be, I think most people are really wrong, but we won’t know until Anet does some testing.
There’s no way anyone who plays ranger wouldn’t notice the huge speed decrease under quickness.
@Higmenson:
You know, you’d be a lot more believable arguing your case about rangers if you didn’t make wrong blanket statements that all people who are complaining that shortbow was nerfed to be slower is only feeling that way due to the patch notes. If you have used QZ at all with a shortbow, whether it be for a condition build or a power/prec/crit build, you should have noticed straight away even if you didn’t play ranger much at all. The thread you made on rangers building condition spec had some largely questionable posts as well especially combined with the post you made in this thread.
I’ll leave whether or not shortbows needed to be nerfed to the thread dedicated on it but I couldn’t keep quiet when accuse other people and make incorrect statements at the same time.
What I don’t understand with these Ele whines, is my friend who is an Ele just plainly wrecks on his, and hard.
Yet ele seem to kitten one of the most.

Yeah – I’m not too convinced by this ele bashing either. Have just started one and they have a good collection of skills. Just rather hard to play as it’s necessary to move between attunements to use them properly and that isn’t so easy when you need to make best use of the cooldowns. Honestly, I still suck at that and need more practice, but a guildie I play with makes it work very well. I think all the light armor classes are a bit harder to play than medium/heavy.
Here’s the fun part about the ele bashers: They’ve actually played the class for more then 10 minutes. Saying “Have just started one” invalidates your opinion from the get go. Come back when you’ve leveled one up to level through PvE and did some WvW and PvP in addition to that. Then roll a warrior or a thief.
Elementalists have the lowest survivability, lowest damage and are plagued by few bugs on core skills since the beta (Ride the lighting for example). And while I’m sure every class has some issues of their own. You ranger folks really have it good in comparison to the Elementalists, trust me.
Every class indeed has issues but what bugs me is seeing patch notes where other classes has again and again been worked on whether it is buff or nerf there was some detailed adjustments where as at most we get one line which is absolutely besides any real issues or bugs or feedback or balancing. In this case our one most common viable effective weapon people trust gets nerfed (perhaps accidentally) by a significant amount relative to results. Now other classes may have also had been overlooked. If you have then you too should have some attention on some fixes. We’re not asking for everything to be done to please us all at once, I’m asking for a little attention here and there slowly fixing up some of the issues in ALL classes, one item at a time equally

Hey, down Fido! I did say I sucked at it. You may be right, its hard to tell as many people greatly exaggerate their woes, presumably in order to persuade Arenanet to give them some mega buff.

I kitten dps tested the weapon extensively before the nerf and after the nerf. Cross Fire got a 30-35% damage nerf, and since it is the short bow, that means the entire short bow got a 30-35% damage nerf. You have no freaking clue what you babble on about and probably don’t even have a ranger in your character selection.

The thing with the elementalist is that when you first roll one you’re reaction is probably going to be “Holy kitten! I am the master of Earth and Water, Fire and Wind! Look at those monsters melt away before me! This is so much fun!” But the more you level up… the worse the elementalist starts scaling to the content. And when you finally arrive in Orr you’ll be constantly cursing as that unkitable Risen Squire is all in your face about it. And when your slow kitten channeling spells keep getting interrupted by that Purifier with his kittenly annoying pull CC. Hell, walking anywhere in Orr is just a thousand mile cryout in pain with an elementalist.
In PvP there’s just a whole other can of problems that I wont even go into.
At least WvW is pretty good (If you are shoehorned into the staff support/siege weapon role)

Mate, I completely agree. But unforunately it doesn’t seem like Anet has any clue what they are doing right now. Hell, right now I’m sure the elementalists at this point would rather see them not getting any changes in the patch notes than getting all these “bug fixes” that just nerf them into the ground even more. Especially when there is this long list of bugs that actually need fixing.
Right now classes either get nothing in the patches, or they get stuff that just screws them over. It’s not a great situation for anyone. (Except warriors, check their forum out. Its filled with kittens and rainbows because they have so little to complain about)
Elementalists definitely have it pretty bad off. All because of people who didn’t know how to dodge out of the red circles cried.

I think that’s a bit of a premature conclusion to make. Many of the weapon sets are rather well designed and have interesting synergies, they just need some tweaking in order to be viable. Getting these things right is notoriously hard and there hasn’t been an MMO forum that wasn’t filled with this sort of thing, some of it justified, most not.
