As a Ranger, my main example is Lightning Reflexes.
The reason I use this ability is because it saves me from a lot of burst damage situations.
With that said, I get so frustrated when it doesn’t work how I feel it should.
My main complaint revolves around immobilizes. If i get immobilized by a Warrior who then puts me into a HB combo, I cannot get away, even though this ability should really allow you to do it. I think “Break Stun” should include any CC that holds you in place.
On top of that, it uses the CD on the ability, shows the animation, yet holds you in place still.
I remember that this skill worked correctly in Beta. Whenever I was rooted, stunned, immobilized… anything that hindered me from getting away… I hit Lightning reflexes and got out. I am at a loss how this was changed on live.
It does this because Immobilize is considered a condition and not a stun. I think its pretty lame too. As soon as I can’t move my first instinct is to go to my break stun ability.
Yea , really silly … Immobilise is totally a "stun"IMO .
Side track a bit, i was kinda stun back to back by enemy players yesterday in WvWvW.. It was totally bs.
I agree. The point of it is to leap back one free time with nothing stopping you. Any cripple instantly ruins this ability because you get a crippled rollback thats a fraction of the distance. Any root negates the ability completely.
Well, stun means you’re disoriented and immobilize is you being unable to move. Technically they’re different but I share the frustration. It’s essentially a death sentence in mass pvps. I have Prayer to Kormir as a human and even then it’s a coin toss as to whether I can cast that in time and then RF before I get destroyed. I can’t imagine playing the Ranger on another race when you have to rely solely on the Signet which is useless.
If they want to keep the two conditions as separate, they need to give the ranger something to deal with that. I would estimate at least 85% of my death in wvw involves me being immoblized first.

Agreed. WvWvW is just stun/immobilize spam then all spike…
When I saw the thread title I was going to comment that LR should also remove immobilize. Glad to see others feel the same =)
I’m pretty sure I can teleport away either with the shadow step skill or the shortbow teleport skill on my thief in spvp, so I was also perplexed when I noticed that LR basically did zip in pvp.
Yeah I’ve made a thread about this too – It’s VERY important right now as it’s like the only break stun for the ranger!
It’s also ridiculous when other classes get abilities to remove a bunch of conditions in one go. Even warriors get a trait that Dodging removes the movement impair conditions.
Lightning reflexes really should break immobolize and maybe even cure cripple.
A stun is something that would totally make you unable to perform any action.
Immobilize is a SNARE. Two totally different things. You are right that when using lightning reflexes it uses the skill and keeps you in place, however, also not that it evades every attack while it is doing the animation. That is because a snare does not prevent you from activating skills. You can hit that, or signet of stone with the trait to make it affect you (if you are feeling very in danger in pvp). You can also use your 3rd shortbow skill to evade again after lightning reflxes.
Those are just a couple ways to avoid the damage withing breaking the cc. It is also worth mentioning using healing spring as your 6 skill will remove a condtion (including immobilize), which is why I always take it over other healing skills. Another solution (which also happens to be my favorite) would simply be to hit 5 if you’re wielding a shortbow to daze him out of 100b. If you wield a longbow simply knock them back.
These are just a few simple options to get out and avoid the damage.

I run with Shared Anguish and Hide in Plain Sight to help deal with stuns – more so in SPVP – in WvW I don’t feel I need both of those.
Hell I run a pure survival build sometimes in team play that had the above, Emphatic Bond, Signet of Renewal and Brown Bear. My damage suffered, but I am usually able to hold off 2on1, 3on1 for awhile until backup can arrive.

If you go condition damage, a survival build works very nice.
In sPvP i run one with Singet of Renewal, lightning reflexes, zephyr and all defensive trait in wilderness trait line, i still deliver top notch condition damage with 121 bleed ticks coupled with my amazing survival
healing spring removes condition’s so that will release you from being immobilized.
Agreed here, no CC skill (Immobilize) should be uncounterable, I know some would bring up stability as a counter but Rangers only get 1 skill with stability and that’s has a 120 second cooldown and uses up an elite slot.
Hope this makes it to the maintenance patch this time <3 it’s a simple fix that would do wonders for bow survivability

One of the biggest issues is that immobilize received an enormous buff with the ability to stack. The ranger is already highly susceptible to immobilize and this fix is a simple solution to it. I just found it ironic how similar posts from over a year ago are to the posts of today (when it comes to ranger).

The difference is that you can still dodge while snared. You cannot dodge while immobilized.
That never made any sense to me. I can evade while immobilized, but I can’t dodge? If they let you dodge while immobilized, I would have much less problem with LR not being able to remove immobilize. But IMHO the fact that immobilize prevents dodge means it should be removed by all stun breakers.

Which is really silly in the long run considering it also stops all evades from occurring. Yet they wanted to BUFF it? It was already fine how it was before, and now it’s just gamebreaking, with some professions like the Ranger being hit harder than others (such as Warriors who laugh it off).
