I’m glad it’s not just me.

The great Anet Anti-Ranger conspiracy…..

On a more serious note, I see that the thread re. the closing of the now infamous 40ms thread appears to have been deleted entirely.

Another facepalm to Rangers from Anet.

Way to go Anet!

I have a feeling some of the rangers complaining in these threads about pets and dungeons don’t respec for dungeons. There is a passive/follow function where you can still use pet buffs & f2 skills. Also there’s the quickening zephyr buff for pet swapping + pet swapping CD reduction. Maybe I’m the only one who’s thinking outside of the box here but QZ+pet swap spamming+sigil of rage seems like a pretty consistent quickness buff. Sure spirits suck compared to banners but I don’t really feel like the pet argument is valid.

Actually I think quite a lot are specced for dungeons or you just couldn’t survive. And agree the QZ+pet swap is nice but unfortunately if your pet is dead it is irrelevant.

If you’re ranged and you’re pet is on passive/follow how does it die if you’re not getting hit? I understand some of the mechanics, like Giganticus, however if you dodge immediately when you see the red circles, your pet should make it out fine, too.

Honestly guys,

We are rangers. If you want to play another class go play another class. I know a great deal of my abilities deal less dmg and I know that half my utility abilities are complete garbage.

The reality: We have to deal with it. I myself and maybe others come to the forums to look for conversations about how to use the skills we currently have rather than kitten about the ones we don’t.

It is getting to the point that the ranger community is a giant pity party. Lets have some semblance of dignity and respect. tear down doc if you want but at least he’s thinking positive. The negativity is overwhelming, sounds like most of you simply give up.

That’s my 2 cents and I don’t expect many kind responses. I’ll just have to talk to rangers who want to play their class today on a third party site until things change here.

I got 3 complete exotics sets for my Ranger.
I swap between those 3 several times on each map.
So I do with my trait-line-skills and weapons.

In the end my Warrior can do everything my Ranger can, but better.
(Dual Sword, Toughness/healing Power/Condition Damage and Healing shouts)

Having 750 condition damage my Swordthrow (4) deals 5,840-bleeding damage (900 range)- with FGJ and Signet even 6,8k!
That’s 22,29 Shortbow auto attacks for my Ranger with 1150 condition damage.
I got more armor than my Ranger.
I got higher damage (Rifle > Shortbow) with 400 less points in condition damage.
Meanwhile I buff my mates on a much lower cooldown than a Ranger-horn has.
I remove conditions from my group and myself.
And I heal everybody for 2k /Shout.

The current state of the Ranger is not problematic because people don’t know how to play him.
Rangers are problematic because their numbers are just insanely bad.

-Heal scaling

-Spirit life

-Condition weapon base damage AND scaling

-Longbow
— flight time
—Range penalty
—Attackspeed

Shortbow
-QZ bug
-recent attackspeed nerf

Sword
-Unresponsive to dodges
-Long activation time on 2

Greatsword
-Just plain bad damage compared to Warriors
-Condition and physical damage mix on a character who has to use his runes to make up for his armor

Last but not least:
A pet which dies instantly within WvW or exp.mode dungeon AoEs.
Which can’t even hit a running enemy.

I could continue this list much further.
But everything has been said a hundred times before and tbh. I’m getting sick of writing in this forum since the Devs don’t even care enough to respond.
“We know the Ranger-class is broken. We’re working on a fix.” is all I’m hoping for.*
Hell, I should be leveling my Thief this very second.

To sum this up:
Regardless how good you play your Ranger.
Even if you constantly swap gear/masteries within a single dungeon and adept to each type of enemy you face:
The pure numbers on the whole Ranger class are broken.
On top of 2 traitlines which are completely unusable due to bugs.

Your motivational speech is no help.

You took the exact words out of my mind. After I’ve rolled out with Guardian, I did look back cause the longbow range for ranger looks tempting for WvW. But other than that, the class totally sucks for me. And yes we should be leveling our thief every second now.

I rolled a Engineer and Guardian. Even with all the issue rangers have, I find Engineers too narrow focused and Guardians too boring.

I love my ranger, but I agree he is the Jack of some Trades, Master of Nothing at all.

I got to say, playing a ranger and ensuring I contribution as much as other professions have forced me to become a better player. Now I see (especially) guardians, warriors, etc in dungeons that die for freak. I need to stop myself from going WTH, how noob can people be. Playing a good class and yet dying for freak.

So yea, playing a ranger, forces you to L2P or burn.

True story, I once played with a warrior that aggroed the whole dungeon room, and died while I watched on in horror. After which he did not want to res, expecting us to fight our way to him and res him. Nowadays, when I see warriors or Guardians I am doubleful of their skills. As they are so easy to play, that most people do not bother to L2P.

I came from playing a thief (currently a very op class btw, hence why I dont really play it now until they fix stealth)
But ranger damage is severely hurting.

And this is because they built the class around the expectation that your pet helps with your damage….. good in theory not so good in practice…. unless of course your opponent just stands there there and your pet doesn’t die in few seconds.

So a huge chunk of Ranger damage (on which our limited weapon damage is justified) should just remain idle in an entire area of gameplay?

Not to mention you’re suggesting we maximize Quickness up-time when quickness is broken on our weapon with the highest potential damage.

I’m sorry: you’re saying we should learn how to play gw2? It has an auto attack and 4 -crap- skills, with an occasional utility skill and a useless elite. I learned it within 1 day of playing. It’s not a complex game.

this person obviously has no idea where the complexity of this game lies, playing this game and especially a class like ranger and still saying this statement obviously needs to play for longer than a day. while at first the game felt like this to me the more i played the better and more complex the game became.

this game is simple at face value but far more difficult to master

According to Jon Peter, Rangers are easy to play. Just spam 1. Since he is a all knowing developer, that know better then us. We should all just press 1 from now on.

Why would you ever be in a fight and not have your pet attacking? You might as well just bring a ranged pet. They still fold faster than Superman on laundry day, but they tend to hit moving targets better and the jungle spider’s double stuns are pretty nice.

I enjoy my ranger for the most part. I only have three primary complains.

- Players being able to strafe back and forth and dodge every single ranger bow attack.
- Ranger sword auto-attack (1) locks player in place preventing quick dodge/evading.
- Ranger pets die way too easily in dungeon boss fights from AoE. Make pets take at least 75% reduced AoE damage.

The 3rd being my biggest.

It really is a miss concepted idea that the forums are a place where players ask game developers how they wish their game to be played.

Some people out to think one thing before posting: “i’m gonna adress to other people that play the game” this the community communication place, not the complaint office… hey they even have a “suggestions” tab for us right here on forums.

I mean sure it’s fine to vent everynow and then, about how we get frustrated with some aspects of the game, but some people come to the forum to let their ideas battle, like an arena? Really? Like if you state a particular frustration with a certain aspect, somebody replies with a suggestion or tip to overcome it, and the first thing that pops in your head is to fiercely defend what you stated and not even… i don’t know, try a different approach to it? I digress…

To more concrete examples? Agh… i’ve tryed something a while back, i hope docmed doesn’t mind if i shamelessly advertise a very own thread of mine i started to mine a different mindset to people:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/The-Glass-Half-Full-shortbow

check it out if you will, and hey this is my two cents.

This is fine and I agree however some people’s suggested ‘fix’ isn’t always the right fix. For example: I’ve had people tell me, “Just use a range pet in dungeons.” If this is the fix then it’s obvious that melee pets, mainly DPS ones, have issues. Second, range pets can have a similar problem. They start to attack thus just stand in the one spot and attack while you move around to stay out of AoE or away from the boss. The pet will die unless you non-stop keep calling it back to you thus causing you to keep call back, attack target, call back, attack target. This lowers your overall DPS and your pets.
