[Molten Facility] Choice of Pets?
Yep. Did you notice pathing improvements? Because I did.
Choice of pets??
No choice required, I did this on my guardian …. :P
Would never bring my current ranger into any dungeon right now, but when I did have a semi-useful ranger doing dungeons I always went with 2 devourers on passive mode. Would do the same in this one,

Devourer and Drake. Long and close range heavy hitters help quite a bit.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I run jaguar/devourer the whole dungeon or change to dual devourer for the last boss if the party lack a bit of support.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I’m mostly using drakes in dungeons these days, since I like the fact that they are pretty sturdy, do decent damage, excellent F2 and their natural aoe attacks. Oh, and don’t forget their blast finisher.
For a melee pet, I think they’re about as good as it gets for overall performance in dungeons.
I went with my trusty Jaguar Shadow and my faithful Murellow Cancer Bear. This dungeon is very ranger friendly, and was really quote awesome. I just wish the rewards were better :/
Red and Blue Moas for now. Their buffs and AoE healing have proven useful, especially with the design where most enemies are pretty packed into a small area each pull.
The group I did this with yesterday was 5 Rangers (not planned!). We had so many healing springs that the few drakes in the group were awesome with their blast finishers.
Got through the dungeon with no problems. Zero wipes.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.

Were they melee rangers? I don’t normally see rangers run into melee to drop healing spring.
Personally I ran jaguar primarily up to the boss. I am using a signet build and dual bows, I rely on burning my signets early in the battle and the jaguar F2 to burst down the gunners (jaguar stealth actually allows them to survive early on and avoid aggro). Signet of the Hunt, Signet of the Wild and Rampage as One combined with 30% crit damage for pets and Signet of the Stone active if my pet takes some AoE or gets targeted. It doesn’t work as well in harder dungeons (cleaves and AoEs are still a problem) but for the Molten Factility it was fine.
I was running a wolf as my off pet. I wanted the fear howl as an option to knock the dredge out of the protection circle although it’s not working out as well as I would have hoped (they usually don’t move far enough or are against a wall, even if you do get them out there is usually some idiot standing in the circle that the dredge run back to and become immune again, I hate dungeon mechanics which allow one person to ruin it for the whole group). I’m probably going to swap it out for the lightning drake for their cleaves and blast finishers.
For the boss I first tried melee pets hoping the buff and AI change were enough to keep them alive. I was disappointed so the last time I did it I used a devourer and a jaguar. The jaguar still died, so I probably won’t do that again but the devourer lasted much longer and usually only died when the boss enraged and there were AoEs flying everywhere.
Just to give context, I run 15 points in BM and usually have the Signet of Stone passive (boosts toughness), sometimes the Signet of the Wild passive (passive health regen, although I use this active fairly often). When talking about which pets you bring I think it’s important to let people know how much help they are getting from Beast Mastery trait points (in my case, 150 additonal points for toughess, vitality, power and precision as well as 15 seconds between pet swaps) and from your utility skills if you bring pet boosting ones.
I often run with 15 BM, but right now I am running 0 BM and full berserker.
I was in a lazy mood, used dual drakes, was easy mode. In dungeons I normally go dual drakes or devourers or a mix. That way I can send them off to do their own thing while I do mine own and takes minimal micro management.
I just ran it using Brown Bear/Drake and it was quite successful. I actually ended up using the Drake about 80% of the time just because they are so well rounded. Combining his blast finisher with my Healing Spring was very beneficial as well. My Beast Master Build was quite effective, the end boss downed me twice, but never died.
I actually felt like my Ranger was a boon to my party. I had a little support, provided some tanking and still did some pretty respectable damage. The Ranger profession just might be on the right track.
Same as all dungeons i use Devourers and Jellyfish everything else dies too fast in dungeons to be viable..
Devourers are stronger than Spiders and do as much damage..
Drakes are really strong after the last patch. The cleave on their attacks and their survivability are really nice in dungeons. The faster f2 cast time is nice as well, though to be fair, most of the time they still won’t begin casting when you really want them to.
I took my devourer & arctodus on passive. They did just fine until the final bosses. If only I had 5 more trait pts I could protect them by dodging, when they need to jump. But I am not giving up Eagle eye or spirits unbound.
My spirit build actually was quite helpful to the party in the dungeon, up until the final bosses. Their survivability is still pretty dismal but the elite spirit revived quite a few people multiple times. Unfortunately it seemed to get a lot of aggro on the final bosses and healing spring was not helping at all. Either or both bosses liked me far too much when I brought out the spirits.
If you have the protection on dodge roll you can keep pets safe when it’s time to jump.

I was running my tanky greatsword build with all soldier’s gear up in melee usually though using longbow when I needed to range or knock a defender back with Point Blank Shot.. It seemed every ranger, except me had shortbow + axe or a melee weapon so they easily got into healing springs and when fighting against melee opponents it wasn’t hard to get those blast finishers.

I take my Drake, Bubbles don’t give no kittens he’s gonna stand there and face tank 2 gunners and a shaman like a real man while the group decides to die to a lone Protector…. god idk how i’ve found so many bad players PUGing that instance…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Since I’m currently using my Greatsword Soldier build and Healing Spring, I have been taking 2 drakes, Swampy and The Shocker. They are tanky. They do good dps. They each do blast finishers in the healing spring giving more heals to nearby allies and ourselves. Their F2 is quite nice as well.

I’ve run dual drakes in MF. Sometimes I switch to jaguar in the middle, but have 2 drakes during the boss fight is really nice. Switching between the two, I’ve not had one pet death during my 7 runs so far……ofc this is in a pet master build :P
Definitely a brown bear. F2 for AoE condition purge for all the burning, and bears are the closest thing to immortal you’ll see in a party.
I took my snow leopard for DPS and snaring but it got thrashed pretty quick in most scenarios.

Three tailed devourer: stand behind it attacking ranged while it absorbs incoming projectiles, got to love that meatshield.
I brought an Ice Drake for Chill and River Drake because that Lightning breath shreds things. I swap out a Fire Drake, too, because he hits hard. They both survive trash and the bosses.
