As a class we’re getting there. We’re slowly catching up to the others but we’re not there yet. The ignorant masses still think we do sup-bar damage and bring nothing to the team. Them fools be wrong, that’s what I say. To get rid of this annoying and stupid stigma we now need our weapons to be buffed slightly.


Longbow: Weapon on a whole needs a flight speed boost.

Shortbow: Bleeds from crossfire need to be longer, 3 should add a swiftness to pet.

Axe: MH- Ricochet needs to activate faster, increasing it’s attack speed or it needs a damage boost. OH- Lower cooldowns.

Sword: Auto-attack needs to be intteruptable by dodge at any time. Last or first part of the auto-attack could do with some bleeds.

Greatsword: Auto-attack needs a minor damage buff, Maul should replace it bleeds with a vulnerability.. 3 bleeds is useless and does not belong in the build.

Dagger: The weapon is just right, doesn’t need any work, does what is supposed to do.

Torch: Reduced cooldowns, Bonfire is just fine, Throw Torch however needs to fly faster and add a blind as well.

Warhorn: Call of the Wild should get a cooldown decrease.


-Sharpened Edges needs to bleed longer
-Spirits Unbound should give a flat 50% damage mitigation to all Spirits
-Opening Strike mechanic needs a complete rework: GO HERE

Longbow: I can agree on flight speed, Rapid Fire why?

Shortbow: Why?

Axe: The basic attack does need either a damage or a speed buff, but not much. The 2 and 3 skill allows you to have 100% bleed and weakness uptime, no need to reduce cooldown.

Sword: Why does (should) it need (apply) bleeds?

Greatsword: A knock on maul would need it’s cooldown time increased. Imo make maul remove one condition, because the bear’s F2 is remove condition

Torch: Throw torch is fine, it hits and is a nice surprise attack. Bonfire is also fine because of it’s 8 sec field.

Warhorn: Why?

Sharpened edges: remember that only whole seconds count
Spirits Unbound: no comment
Opening Strike: It is true that it sucks for solo play but having it with a group is basically a 20% damage boost to everyone else.

Personally I would also like to add Blast finisher to Maul.
But I guess with such a low cooldown it would be unbalanced :P

Gs – I think it fits perfectly as we have little condition removal and Gs is a defensive control weapon.

Torch – It probably depends on our own experiences. I run S/W A/T in PvP. This is just personal experience and opinion btw. I open with throw torch, switch weapons before it hits (avoiding cooldown) use both warhorn skills, hopefully poison with sword 3, use other attacks and switch set. Axe has recharged and I can throw torch again and it hits because sword 1 made my enemy use up his/her dodges, chill with axe, shotgun with axe, put down bonfire, switch to sword, do the leap finisher (fire aura) etc etc.... It works imo

Sword – Keep in mind that adding bleed to sword requires white damage to be nerfed, which makes it synergize less with direct damage players.

Definitely agree with the longbow, that weapon is very slow, especially at 1500 range when it is most important. OH axe I feel will not get a buff anytime soon since it was recently buffed as well as great sword. I could see them fixing the sword issues in the next update and the longbow though! LB is way due some changes. Personally I would want a “sniper” style shot to replace the rapid fire, some sort of single high damage shot with a long cast time

These suggested changes are reasonable and would help us compete. They wouldn’t fix all the problems we suffer, but would certainly give us an edge we’ve lacked and craved since beta.

I suppose we’ll have to wait and see if Anet addresses these issues at all or if their fixes are what we actually need. But, knowing them, they could always nerf us, slap on a new coat of paint and call it fixed.

And he can always say “hey, balance guys, I’d like to make a new dungeon, but a mechanic, I’d like to implement will be bad for rangers, necause in their current state […]”
Balance guy: “What? new shiny content is endangered? Gotta change this right away!”

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

I never have understood this skill, it seems like they made it to be an escape skill but you have to hit something to gain the swiftness which then puts you into a combat slowdown making the swiftness kinda pointless lol

would be better if it crippled or stuns the target.

how about:
Shortbow 3:
No damage(so you won’t be put into combat if out of combat)
blinds and weakens the target for 4 seconds
evades
swiftness on hit

I’ll take a look at how it compares to Necro staff auto. I will say that when this does hit it is the highest DPS #1 skill in the game. We wanted it to feel this powerful but difficult to land but the effect may be too exaggerated. I’ll play some PvE and PvP scepter Guardian later today.

I’ll take a look at how it compares to Necro staff auto. I will say that when this does hit it is the highest DPS #1 skill in the game. We wanted it to feel this powerful but difficult to land but the effect may be too exaggerated. I’ll play some PvE and PvP scepter Guardian later today.

No, Guardian is a strong profession, but the Scepter autoattack is obviously not tuned correctly. However, I’d say the same is true to a lesser extent for most ranged weapons. Lon g Range Shot is a pretty egregious offender also.

As someone who uses spirits a lot and is still trying to make them viable; what did you mean by this:
“-Spirits Unbound should give a flat 50% damage to all Spirits”

Not sure if you mean their passive bonus abilities give a 50% damage increase or their activated ability would get a 50% damage increase.

EDIT: And as for the rest; +1 especially the LB

I’d like Call of the Wild to add a blind, since it’s very easy to avoid adding something else to spice it up would make OH horn more appealing to take then just for run buff zergs.

Path of Scarn – OH Axe – Needs something else. Anything. Again, as a direct damage ability it’s boring and easily avoidable. Adding a control condition like a knock down or knock forward (on the path back) would make it more appealing and add some much needed control to the Ranger’s quiver.

My point was that Guardian is one of the strongest professions right now and Ranger is in the bottom 2. Why not look at our ranged weapons and the problems they have to make us at least on par with the others?

I had meant damage mitigation/reduction. It has been corrected.

One suggestion for one skill i have and would make perfect sense because 1. birds in your face WOULD blind you and 2. skill isn’t good enough for its 25sec CD

Hunter’s Call: Blinds for 2sec with each strike (everything else stays the same or add 2-3sec of bleed from each strike as well). WOuld like this to be implemented.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.
