I very strongly agree with this.
No, this would be “cool” but also completely overpowered.
Anet should include pets with skill like “teleport and …….” like the necro’s minions!
I don’t see why pets capturing points would be overpowered, Taym.8326. It would give rangers an option other than face-tanking melee when protecting a point, and most pets die very quickly if focused in sPvP. A ranger with a dead pet loses a lot of utility and damage, and if they swap pets at range to save the dying pet the point would likely flip to neutral before the pet could run back in.
In fact, when in my first game of sPvP as a ranger long ago, I sent my pet in expecting that it would hold the point. It is an entity on my team and therefore it should count toward holding points. Were it just a summon I wouldn’t have expected it.

If pet could capture point then a ranger would be able to capture a point vs a guardian. Even if the battle would result in a stalemate. Sounds OP to me.

Sounds like a poorly played guardian, if they can survive the ranger but the ranger can still cap the point. Knockbacks can be used to remove the pet from the circle the same way as they interrupt player caps, and if the guardian were smart he/she could simply move to the edge of the ring and let the (presumably melee) pet chew on them from outside the capture ring because the AI is not smart enough to know where it should move to in this situation.

I 100% agree with this, our utility in PvP is slacking at the moment and changes like this could really help improve the class. Send your pet to far with guard for example while you attack anyone that gets near it/distract them.

I don’t think a single one of you that are for this idea even PvP…. This would be broken as kitten , and they’d have to do the same for Mesmer clones since those are actually treated as players in all other circumstances, and then the kitten will flow….

Exactly. I admit I don’t PvP, but it’s just a pet, PvPers already got their damage nerfed and if they are the most skilled players in the game that they claim to be, they can circle strafe in the amply large CP and negate all pet damage.
I’d even concede so that pets can’t solo cap and need another player around them to flip a node.
This would be insanely overpowered because it essentially gives you an extra man on the field and Lord help you if you had multiple pets on a team. So, you cap a point ant then you simply attack the enemy aggressively to keep them away from your point with less danger that you are placing yourself in AE and static damage harm.
Meanwhile, the other team has to deal with you and getting someone to the point to capture it. Totally unfair.
Hmm.. When Pet alone is very likely to be killed in couple seconds by DPS, coupled with BM traits, Bear would be able to keep point at least contested on his own vs. let’s say, bunker guardian. I think it would be kind of funny to watch, but well…we have 2000 range restriction for pet targets…It could be just amazing troll ;p

After thinking it over a little I think it’d be fine if it was for bear pets only, I mean kitten you give up so much by taking a bear it can at least serve as a point holder!

Ok so very rough numbers about to be thrown out. If I go 20 into BM and 15 into NM then there is 0 chance of you taking that node with my bear on it in a 1 v 1 or even 1 v 2. Even without those traits most builds/spec won’t be able to chew through a 50k hp health pool in 20 seconds. This effectively allows me to do whatever the hell I want off the node and you can’t do anything about. I could go 1500 range glass LB and you couldn’t touch me while you die, you can’t leave the node cause the pet will decap. 1 v 2 I could do the same thing, put my pet on the node and then 1 v 1 your other guy while you sit there trying to kill something actually unkillable. In team fights, I could drop my bear on the node and the 5 of us could just extend into your backline with 0 worry of losing the node and you lose the node or give up a player to hold the node against a kitten AI!. That is not skill. That is like a borderline exploit imo. It provides little counter play and essentially provides your team with a 6th player.
