Pets taking too much damage after patch?
Yup in wvw too, they seem to melt like butter.
Same in PvE.. was working over some champs, which my pets could handle fairly well, getting absolutely clobbered now. The pet was pretty much the only thing keeping me playing.. if they nerf that into the dust too, I’m done, hoping it’s just a bug.
Glad I’m not the only one. I tried a couple more matches and it’s just not playable. My pet got two shot by the caster in the lobby. Hopefully this is not a permanent thing.
Agreed, my pets weren’t dying this fast before. Why the nerf…I don’t understand Anet sometimes.
My pets haven’t been dying any faster than they did previously, are you sure you’re not going up against an AoE heavy team? iE: made engi/zerker staff eles?

Did notice them maybe taking extra damage against the flaming effigy in CoF. It was only one run though, must repeat tests.
Pets are a bit more responsive now, so that means they are actually in the fray more frequently. This could mean they are more likely to be hit by cleave damage and hence take more damage.

You are right on that count.
However I have run test previously on NPC’s in the mist to see how much damage they do and how much damage they take in return to get a feel for them. My little guys are getting two shot now where as before they could take a substantial amount of damage.
If a moderator sees this and wants to move/merge this to profession bugs forums feel free as I’m opening a new thread there. I appear not to be the only person experiencing this issue.
I’m hoping this is fixed as I am one of the hardcore Ranger fans remaining out there…and right now it’s too frustrating to play when the main feature of the class is not working properly.
I just did a few more tests SubAce, and you can disregard my previous statement. You are indeed correct. Pets are a LOT squishier now.
They either broke something somewhere, or with everything else getting buffed, pets got indirectly nerfed in the survivability department.

My pets are still getting demolished too quickly.
Help me ANET you’re my only hope. Maybe I’ll have to get one of those life things I’ve heard so much about. Too bad I just bought all those gems last week.

I’m more interested why my pets take a reduction in hitpoints when going to WvW from a level 80 zone…… usually my cat/wolf have 25k hp in PvE and 14k in WvW? Why? I can’t remember there being a nerf, maybe it was during my 8 month break, oh well.
They already take the LONG way to the target and it’s usually dead in 2 hits before getting even halfway to the target, so nerfing their damage was a wasted effort
P.S. Necro melee minions are also still broken

It wasn’t a nerf to WvW and PvP, they buffed the health of ALL pets (including turrets, minions, etc) in PvE to compensate their inability to dodge attacks

Not home right now, but before the patch my white raven had 17k health and was critting for 4k 2x with my BM build on it’s F2. Will check after I get home and quote this post.

That’s not true. They did not buff engineer turrets in health.
True, they only buffed necro minions, mesmer clones and phantasms, spirit weapns, ranger spirits, ranger pets and that was it.
Ranger pets, mesmer clones, necro minions ,guardian spirit weapons still have their HP split between PvE and PvP/WvW

Bumped the bugs forum thread too. In WvW tonight, the Wolf seemed to die way too fast. Jungle Spider seemed to have the correct amount of health. Was frustrating feeling as if I was only playing with 1 pet all night.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it is linked to the “Pets do too much damage” bug. Sounds like they swapped the HP and damage of some (all?) pets.

Same here, cant remember to have so many Problems to keep my pet alive in sPvP even in a 1 vs 1 Situation.
I think something scales wrong with NPC´s, first the Thing with the damage (not only Rangerpets did more,Svanir Lord, Chieftain) i hope Anet has a look on it.

I thought I was going mental but seems like I’m not the only one who noticed this. My spiders can’t survive in wubwub anymore. Before they could survive pretty nicely through the small scale mayhem, but since the patch they die extremely fast with just few hits. I don’t do zerg or big fights so it’s not the ol’ oh my pet is so useless in blob vs blob fights.
Sat around last night wanting to play but got turned off by this whole situation. Hooter, my pet owl, just can’t hang anymore.
I even tried to play my guard, got bored.
I even tried to play my Mesmer, realized I still suck as a mesmer.
I even tried to play the TP, and realized I lose gold playing the TP because I lack basic math skills.
Then in my best Marlon Brando impression I yelled loudly, “Hooooooooter!!!!!! Hey Hooooooter!!!!!!!” But my owl didn’t come back. He just stayed dead. Probably a smart move on his part. Now I take all the aggro.

There is also the thing about how the new guardian builds use retal, or not. Large amounts of retal would explain why pets suddenly seem to die faster.

Unfortunately it’s not just guards that are pounding my poor pets into the ground then covering them with a bit of grass and saying a few words.

anet prolly took the bearbow joke thread serious and nerfed the pets.
Are these issues all in WvW and sPvP or PvE too? I’ve only been sPvPing since the patch and I can totally say that I’ve noticed people focusing my pets A LOT more.
It may be due to my pets actually being responsive and able to land their kitten now instead of sitting around half the fight looking dumb. I know my fern hound can land his leaps and deal ~8k damage while Sic’Em is up, and that birds regularly deal 4k damage, even some veteran rangers didn’t realize that their pets can hit this hard because they spent 95% of the fight doing who the kitten knows what.
That’s just my 2 cents because I haven’t noticed my pet getting hit harder than usual, just that he’s being hit MORE than usual.

WvW. Something has definitely changed. My canines and kitties got completely pummeled last night. I was only roaming so it wasn’t because of zergs. I eventually put pets on passive but even then they still took damage.
tldr – 100% accurate that something has changed with pets. I find it weird…not really…that they correct instantly a pet doing too much damage ….pet taking too much damage ? nada

well, in EOTM (i just recently transfered so i cannot enter any BL or EGB), my Artdoctus bear (full BM w/Invigorating Bond) can take on a champ alone and win. Takes a bit of time, but it can facetank the champ thanks to me running a regen BM bunker build.

I run full 30 in BM and have seen nothing, I took my BM points out and suddenly noticed huge numbers for my pet (receiving end), now I normally play BM and don’t think I’ve had less than 20 in BM since launch, but the numbers my pet took were REALLY high…
I think non BM pets are bugged… This would explain why some people are having no issues with it while others are, and would explain why it’s fairly unnoticed (the average ranger player with no points in BM tends to have the “who cares about the pet?” Attitude).

I haven’t played with the new patch, yet, but I noticed in the patch notes for 20 hours ago it mentioned “Fixed a bug in which pets, turrets, and minions were scaling their stats incorrectly in PvP.” Has anyone tried testing the numbers since then?
Is there any post in the bugs forum about it? I can’t find one.
Yes I posted the same topic over there. It’s down to page 4 or 5. There are a lot of bugs with this patch.
That being said while I understand the dev team is busy they were able to hot fix the damage output and comment on it extremely fast. A simple acknowledgement that the team is aware of this issue would be greatly appreciated.
To respond to another poster yes I tested after the patch and the damage received is still obscene. Right now my pets are about as useful as a mini.

Oh how the truth hurts!
I have noticed they are a bit squishier however my main concern is that my pet no longer holds aggro (any of them). Enemies are totally ignoring my pet and coming for me. I did a champ that I have solo’d multiple times alone last night and I had to be constantly on the move (which makes some attacks difficult) to stay alive. I have really enjoyed ranger class up till now but if this change is permanent I guess I won’t be playing it much any more.
For the record I run a full BM so I don’t think it has much to do with traits

Possibly, I was thinking of swapping my armour out to see if reducing my threat allows my pet more aggro. That said towards the end of the champ last night 2 other persons joined in, one a warrior I think and the only time I managed to drop aggro off me was when my invisible arrow kicked in ( and even then was only a few seconds till I materialised again)
Spirits seem to also be experiencing the same bug. Even with vigorous spirits my spirits were just brought down to a sliver of health by one hip shot from the engineer NPC.
I can’t say for certain on that one because I never tested out spirits like I did my pets. This is such a bummer I want to play…and for some kitten reason I only really enjoy my ranger. But with this bug it’s just not fun. It’s down right infuriating. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah, I think it’s tied to pet toughness. I did a quick test in Frostgorge yesterday when I heard about the wolf damage bug (didn’t know it was PvP only at the time). To see if the wolf really was doing more damage than my kittenomeone had reported.
The wolf (2061 toughness) tanked the mobs just fine. The cat (1374 toughness) … I never attacked the mobs, I just ordered the cat to attack them. What followed was the mob chasing me around for nearly 2 minutes (I did no damage), with the cat chasing it and whittling it down. I don’t think the cat even got hit.
So in all likelihood there’s a new pet toughness bug which is affecting both pet aggro and pet survivability. Low toughness = low aggro, low survivability.

I had this too, quite often I will send my pet to attack something while I gather or revive someone but I was always the target regardless of whether I hit or not (since the patch)

My pets get demolished. Please fix.
I noticed this especially on the pvp map with the two monsters you kill for bonus points. It used to be a freeze to kill them as ranger, but now even my Bear pet, gets 4 shot to dead. I have to go tru deep lengths to survive those monsters now, while that wasn’t the case before.
And yes correct: pet’s hold agro much harder then before patch. I’m the agro magnet 90% of time now. I just noticed that Power/attack got merged. attack no longer exists, and it’s just ‘power’ now. If same happend to armor/thoughness, then the merging of them might have causes an inderect nerf to pets. I think they overlooked something while merging these stats.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option

Hmm.. Yesterday night my drakehound died to one covered backstab from the thief. I mean, I know that this thing hits hard, but my pet has some hp, toughness and there was ferocity nerf… I can’t remmber situation like this even before patch
