Hey all! I am new to the game, and am working my way towards lvl 80! I love playing pet-based classes in MMOs, and I love my pets dealing lots of damage! I was hoping to get some input on this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMIQJATVnEVUFcgFKWwaZgYpQP+hp4QJ69oVqv9J8rj3D-e
or suggestions on how to get maximum pet damage, preferably while using a longbow. I was also thinking of using longbow/axe+warhorn combo.
I like the idea of big crits, and I like bleed damage.

You want general roaming pve or dungeon pve?

Roaming PvE/WvW build to be exact… already have a dungeon build I’m working on.. just need one for roaming that I can use in PvE and WvW.

Here’s a roaming LB/Axe/WH PvE build, if running in WvW, grab another person.

Can swap Axe/WH for GS if want but kiting mobs with active Frost Spirit with axe is awesome.
I’m an elementalist main, but want to get bacjk into my ranger. Can anyone help me with a very surviveable trapper build? None of mine seem to work out, I can survive near anything on my ele. NOt a fan of spirits.
Seems to me all the traps traits are so spread out amongst different trees, and you’d have a squishy pet and self if you went into skirmishing and survival… I’m lost

ok, I’ll try it out and always have other weapons with me too so I’ll try the Axe/WH combo as well
This is the current build i’m using for WvWvW. It’s based on solo roaming and small group fights.
It ofers a decent amount of suvivability when roaming and a decent damage output in fights. For sieges you can swap the traits for the shorter bow cooldowns and increased range. Initialy i was using knight trinkets but i’ve noticed that with celestial trinkets you do a bit less damage but have a little bit more suvivability.
Also mango pies are used to complement the healing from te troll unguent and the sharpening stones provide the extra power needed.
Any questions, remarks and comments are apreciated
My “Don’t tell Razzard” build. This thing is a monster in sPvP, whether it be group fights of skirmishes. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAV8YnEVkYZhFaBBaZgo9IT9HTvH0KWt3VQUV82D-TsAgzCmIsRZjzGjNSbs2MCZ1x+AA it is a very tanky build based around passive heals, dodges, high armor stat, and poisons. You won’t do super high damage so the poison comes in handy so they can’t heal back as much. You’ll have about 3.2K armor and be healing at about 160 per second with an extra 133 every 3 seconds. That health per sec basically acts as a buffer to mitigate damage. No to mention that you can get around 48 sec of regen easily for more health. NEVER use your signets, that will mean death. You want those passive effects at all times. Use protect me when fighting DPS people like backstabbing thieves, it can also help if your heal is on CD and your low on health. Another thing is to not be afraid to use your heal and elite, better to be safe then sorry. Dodge whenever possible cause it gives you protection and invulnerability, super useful. The way it is traited, you have a faster endurance regen rate which is awesome. You’re going to have an extra dodge on SB and 3 extra on S/D, remembering this is key. Swap whenever you can because you get either an extra heal or an extra poison. Use your F2 skill whenever possible on both pets. You hound will heal you for over 3k and so will your Moa and your Moa grants protection. Swap your pets immediately when they die but only then. When engaging in combat, start with you hound and SB using your 4 skill. That should be all, this build takes some getting used to but then you are used to it, you will dominate!
http://intothemists.com/guides/592-dodger_rules_pet_build
Utilizes the pet to get the best performance possible out of normal damage as well. Using the longbow.
Instead of master maintenance oil, use superior sharpening stones. Precision reaches max potential around 50% and this utilizes it perfectly with the other build sets.
If you are not going to be fighting a huge group of monsters, swap out piercing arrows in marksmanship with trait that boosts your might by 3 stacks for each signet active. This will boost your damage up tremendously.
Dodge Dodge Dodge! If you do not dodge with this build you will die. So if you use this build please dodge so everyone will know who it came from!

A build I came up with for my new ranger, stacks might using signets and rampage as one and then transfers it to my pet using fortifying bond. I can keep up atleast 9 might and 18 might on the pet just using the signets for some pretty decent damage:
This is a pvp build I created. It does really well with 1v1 and team support.
An interesting build that I been using for 600+ hrs thought I would post it here for some people to look at. Just giving a few notes on it:
- This build is not forgiving of mistakes made while using it in WvW. A single mistake can cost you.
- Never stand still for very long unless shooting long range (beyond 1500 units it is possible to do this).
- When dealing with thieves drop the fire trap, switch to GS and when you see the trap release put on Counterattack this will disrupt the thief and give you a nice opening against them.
- Try to stay ranged as long as possible keeping distance between your foe and yourself is key use your knockback and stealth to achieve this. When stealthing run towards your enemy (after you released arrow) this will allow you get maximum distance from your enemy cause the enemy generally assumes you ran away from them.
- TURN OFF AUTOTARGET!!! You will be using GS skill #3 Swoop mostly as a movement skill. To either dodge AOE, move out of melee range, or to escape. Auto targeting is bad for this. Deselect your target then use swoop in the direction you want to move. I tend to use Swoop switch to LB launch knockback just to get even more distance between my foe and I.
- Know your pets! The 2 pets used in this build have their roles to play. If your dealing with a very mobile foe switch to spider and occasionally you will have an upper hand on your enemy espically if you time knockback with F2. Know when to switch. In multitarget situations use your pet to attack the slowest moving target while you take on the most mobile (select slow foe press F1 then select mobile foe and attack).
- This build works for WvW roaming and zerg fights. It also works for general PvE. It can be used in dungeons but not really recommended as you will be using GS more there rather than the range.
- This is a ranged based build with quick bursts of melee. Goal is to stay at max range while using countering moves to punish melee attackers. Such as using fire trap injunction with swoop. If a melee attacker gets close lay a fire trap and swoop at them (combo for fire aura).
- There is more advanced tactics for this build that take time to develop and are enemy dependant once you get a hang of the basics it becomes easier to understand what you must do.
- Use terrain to your advantage. Cliffs (no matter how big) are your friend the more you make your enemy walk to get to you the more damage you can apply to them.
- Fleeing targets are easiest to kill. With a cripple and more damage while flanking an enemy with his back turned to you is easier to kill than one that is facing you.

Hi everyone! I’m a ranger now lv. 80. I’m searching a nice build with lot of dmg but also with something to survive in dungeons or in wvw… i don’t like traps and conditions damage and i don’t want to give my pet much traits because i think is good without them.. what do you suggest to me? I also like using longbow for wvw and shortbow or sword and horn/axe for dungeons.. i don’t know what runes and sigil put into weapons, armors and what armor’s bonuses get.. please help me! thanks!
Hey all.
Just started ranger and am 22 so far. Trying to come up with a competent pet-centric solo PVE build that still does damage and some support. This is what I came up with:
0/30/0/20/20 (SB-Axe/horn)
http://tinyurl.com/mk3wjwk
General idea is to let pet tank (I know the pet aggro mechanic is wonky so this may not work at ALL) and bleed up the mobs. Spirits for support, self healing and extra damage buffs. I didn’t put too much emphasis in toughness so the enemies will target the pet tank instead of me…should i scrap the idea and use something else?
any input? or links to builds that might suit a condi solo PVE playstyle?
Damage per second (bleed) = 2932.5
Damage per second (poison) = 233.6
Damage per second (direct – 2600 armor target) = 862 (after crit, before fury, before might)
Damage per second (pet) = 272 (before might trait effects)
Stable dps = 4300.
Damage per attack used (confusion 3stack) = 532. Proc rate: 3 stacks every 15 seconds, lasts for 10.5 seconds.
Damage per attack used (confusion 5stack) = 886. Proc rate: 5 stacks every 10 seconds, lasts for 21 seconds (But only two ways to use this is to devourer-swap and to use Shortbow 5, so doing this reliably every 10 seconds is difficult.)
Confusion causes skill lockdown. If the opponent attempts to cleanse bleeds/poison they take the confusion hit, then take more bleeds. If they don’t attempt to cleanse bleeds, 4300 damage per second, of which 3166 damage per second is unblockable because it’s condition damage which cannot be mitigated by armor, and will hit through invuln once it has already been applied.
Overall in PvE content we’re talking >5000 damage per second before might effects. The bad news is that because the condition damage on this is so high, it will definitely overwrite any other condition user in the party. Therefore, the use of this ranger automatically invalidates any necro in the party.
Numbers will be smaller for opponents with condition auto cleanse, larger if might, permfury available, 2600 defense, etc are taken into account.
Note also that this works better for solo contexts like world exploration or WvW roaming. If using it in a group context, remove the signet of stone and replace it with Frost Spirit. And trait vigorous spirits instead of buffing your pet with Master’s Bond, as the 7% damage to the group becomes way more significant than the additional pet stats.

Going to running this build when I can afford to do so.

I took a break from my mesmer main to level my ranger for a while. At 45 she was my next highest level after my level 80 main.
Last night came as a surprise, when she made me pay attention to a level 65 drop she received. She was able to equip it as she had leveled to 73 and I had barely noticed. (They grow up so quickly!)
While I have all weapons at my disposal, I am liking the ComBow the best. I have a lot of pets, except for:
Hawk
Carrion Devourer
Jungle Spider
Forest Spider
Salamander Drake
Cave Spider
White Raven
Rainbow Jellyfish
Black Widow
I am looking to build her for damage and support. The pets in the build are not static, I change them out for the task at hand often, but I have a new appreciation for spiders. Currently with the lower level version of this build, I have a pretty high survivability in PvE and able to switch to support when others show up by switching out my 7 and 0 skills.
It fun build for sPvP
cleric gear ranger
let’s Evade Evade Evade
SotW and Natural Hearing give a little healing
swap weapon give some buff for pet
swap pet give vigor So you can many dodge and protection
Don’t forget F2 pet skill!
if you want to breakstun change SotH to SoR or LR
Sorry I have low English skill…
Condit bunker build: Perma regen/swift, 3 Condit remove every 10s and 1,5k regen (in total) on your healing skill: 0/0/30/30/10. Condit/tough/healinp armor&trinkets, Undead runes + Vit/healingp/condit weapons.

I change trait V to VII in nature’s magic when i’m roaming around and not in dungeons. Basically i constantly swap weapons during combat to keep might stacks up. With 25 stacks from perception, and fury up i have about 93% crit chance (I swap it with another axe that has superior sigil of flame after 25 stacks). I chose the spirits cause i find the cool downs on all the other utility skills less than great, and most of the ranger utilities arent great to begin with anyways. The damage buffs from sun spirit and frost spirit are nice and affects party members too.
WvW build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAV8YjEVR2lVeVg2Bg2jMlET+BD9MK90L2oiJ-j0CBIhBCLEmWAmqAgsAKDtIaslgFRjVdDTHjIq2cbZ1GcBSIgDbBA-w
Strong condition build that downs pretty much any class quickly. Again, I dont find any of the utility skills better than the spirits (which work even better with condition build). Food buffs could be better, but those are the cheaper ones i prefer to use that dont cost me an arm and a leg.
Hey all!
This is the build I use in TPVP/SPVP for RANGER SPIRIT
Video here
Enjoy!
Looked a bit and didn’t see this so I’ll post what I’m doing at the moment.
Pets: Using Raven and Owl.
Equipment: All Valkyrie (Power (Primary), Vitality, Critical Damage)
Weapons: Greatsword/Longbow
Skills:
-Healing Spring
-Sic Em
-Protect Me
-Signet of Stone or Guard or Search and Rescue
-Rampage as One
M 30, II, X, XII
S 10, I
W 0
N 30, V, IX, XII
B 0
Defensive strategies:
-Protect Me + Signet of stone will give you time to heal/run. Even protect me by itself can be a great sacrificial survival strategy.
Offensive strategies:
-Opening strike gives you a guaranteed crit. Best used with Maul, but on the longbow the best attack is a long range regular attack (or point blank shot if they’re close).
-Starting the fight from range, use your guaranteed crit regular attack, hit RaO, and Sic Em. Use rapid fire and barrage to get up the stacks of might. Pet attacks will give you a stack of might, which will be shared back with the pet due to NM Master, so he gains might twice as fast as you.
-Use Hunters shot to stealth then switch to greatsword and maul for a guaranteed crit.
Support Strategies:
-Regen + Swiftness from shouts, so if you’re not using the defensive skills then Guard will keep up regen+swiftness (almost) all by itself.
Notes:
-You pretty much have the max power available, so your greatsword attacks do tons of damage. Longbow does less damage, so it is only to be used if being at range is giving you an advantage somehow.
-If I get attacked by a thief I like to ‘sic ’em’, point blank shot, hunters shot, switch to greatsword, maul.
Tips/Questions/Critiques welcome.
An unselfish dungeon, jack of all trades build, focusing on sword/horn and maintaining good party support through spotter and frost spirit. Secondary weapon can be changed for whatever suits your play style I switch between GS or LB myself
Features:
-Spotter for great group support. (Roughly 7% party dmg)
-Frost Spirit for great group support. (Roughly +7% party dmg)
-High DPS and survivability from sword.
-Over 1600 toughness, 50% crit chance 80%+ crit dmg.
- Good party might stacks via jungle stalker f2 and flame blasting your own traps.
-Excellent vulnerability stacking.
-Great party fury upkeep from horn 5 and offhand training.
Can take 10 from skirmishing and go 30 in Marksmanship for 6 sec invul, helps for PUG groups!

While it certainly has a humorous tone, I am completely serious about this build. I use it currently and love it.
A build that I’m testing, any opinion is appreciated

just wanna share my build

I share with you one of my builds. I’ll never post my main, but I share this, equally as deadly, bleed build.
Rune of the Krait coupled with bleed/burn sigils and food boost bleed damage to over 1800 a tick. I use celestial trinkets to balance things out, but you can run Rabid for extra damage.
Notes
-Use traps beforehand.
-Use spike trap slightly behind others.
-If playing aggressive, run in and use Entangle. Krait rune gives bleed, poison, and torment. As well has Entangle damage and bleeds.
-I use canine for kd and cc.
-All damage together totals well above any crap warrior zerk build.

Exactly. Even when I was with Team Legacy we shared our builds and tactics, many of which became meta, all in the spirit of diversifying the scene and helping build competition. Chances are his build is nothing special, but it’s a common courtesy to share your builds, no matter how “OP” you think they are.
Back when I played thief I must’ve shared my Death Blossom Regen Bleed build 10 times before people started taking it seriously, so while he might be playing something different it doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t effective.
TL;DR: Builds should be open to the public, not kept behind an ego.

Very fun and surprisingly effective build. While you may want to swap for a long range weapon if feeling frustrated in certain fights, there should be quite a few gap closers on low CD for you to utilize without a bow.
Otherwise it’s your job to pin people down with cripple and immobilize for your two birds and you to get an advantage. If the opponent has no means of escape, you can pop quickness to dish out a lot of damage in short time. It’s about creating and seizing those opportunities to be most effective.
When your parrot is summoned, make good use of it.
The build also has good access to fury, protection and condition removal, including Bark Skin for that extra bit of survival.
Give it a go.
Perma swifftness, regeneration and fury build with some condi removal and protection I use to run when in 5 man roam party in WvW.

Evasive bleed build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAsY3fjEq0yaNLGsQ1aABhaVA0uGS2Wwd+eDfdBbqA-TJRAwAAOJAdeCAlLD0b/BA
Can easily get 10 stack bleeds with splitblade and sharpening stone, not to mention the active condi removal with SoTF. Also EB can be swapped for bark skin or poison master depending on situation / preference. PM is good due to near perma poison uptime.
Basically the strategy I use for this build is to melt opponents health to half way for the keen edge activation and pop entangle. But make sure to save elite for the latter half of the fight when they have endurance / skill CD

Ok. So, disclaimer up front: I’m a casual participant on GW2. I don’t have the time to be a dedicated player so i’m not aspiring to be some “l33t playa wid mad 5ki11z” or whatever the kids say nowadays /toungueincheek.
Yes, runes/equip has been omitted on purpose. While the right combination of eq/runes can maximize builds potential, the premise is still the same.
I like my PvE and look to be useful while either just 1 man solo-ing around or dungeon-ing it up. So, this is what i run:
Solo:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAT3fnUqQBLWxCuCCXLGQQoWHAzbWzcBqgnNb0myTShapA-e
Let’s face it, Rangers don’t do AoE damage so don’t bother. Single target spiking is where it’s at and this is what this build tries to do. Axe/Torch just gives another option against swarming mobs if needed. Keep pet buffed and try not to switch targets until dead.
Dungeon:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNUQNAnfVn8ISvK2sCuCCXLGYPoWGAB8z44bdXFZRTnyTShapA-e
Yes, what a surprise, Spirits. But hell, play to your strengths. Ranger is never going to be out and out DPS, so don’t bother trying to compete. What you can offer is a nice mix of boons, conditions and damage. No, you’re not extreme in anyone area, Rangers are a bit of a jack of all trades, so may as well embrace it. I’d argue any ranger that run a build like this well enough can still be a useful party member.
Anyway, feedback, suggestions etc would be nice.

When i try to open your builds they are empty. Can you pls fix it and redo the links? Thx
Odd, they work fine for me. Anyone else having an issue?
I had no issue opening build links, weird :P
That’s my build for the moment! Not too sure about some of the abilities but my game connection is laggy right now so I can’t verify.
I never do PvP or WvW, only PvE and dungeons. In my inventory I carry a longbow, a sword, a war horn and two axes that I regularly swap out during dungeons and/or events according to the situation.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve, don’t hesitate!
That is the build I am working towards at the moment. Wasn’t particularly sure about which skills to use so feel free to make suggestions for those.
I don’t plan on playing PvP with this build, only PvE (includes fractals and dungeons) and occasionally WvW.
Please don’t make suggestions on different weapon sets to use as I am certain about what weapons I want to use.
Thanks for any help anyone provides!
Hi everyone not sure if this would be the best place to post this
BUT I have been trying to build a decent WvW solo/Zerg support Ranger.
This is my build

What are your thoughts on it? And I’m open to suggestions
Hello guys, im a bit new to the game. I just reached lvl 80 on my ranger and i’m trying to go for a little more “tanky” LB build, that could still do a decent amount of damage. I like to play WvW and PvP so i don’t really like the berzerker glassy feel…
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQJATRjEq0vaBLusQ1ag9gadAUAndregdG0BjQJ2yE-TJBBABA8AAoZ/BKuAAhXGAA
Any comments or suggestions will be really appreciated.
Thanks.
Figured i’d share my current build for WvW Zerg/small group/solo. Though the build requires abit of a constant upkeep for maximum efficiency it can be very strong when it comes to using range to take down single targets and keeping anyone around you supplied with a constant regen and swiftness buff. Also as a couple notes your heal is really up to you with this build but troll unguent seems to work best imo but requires a large portion of upkeep to be best which will take away from time you could be getting in that killing shot. But healing spring can help get rid of those pesky conditions on you and give a water blast field for your warhorn. So yeah your choice really on heal between the two. Pets as per norm are just there to get in the way of hostile attacks and give you a slight extra dmg if they hit the target. Switch up pets as you need it wont effect much. Lastly Lightning reflex can be replaced by any stun breaker skill and still keep the builds effectiveness rather high. I just like the quick retreat option. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNBjOD7kRF6F0WWwhF4axA7B16AoAO7Xxh7oYLa6TWxVmA-TVTBABUcAC2R9HZVCy3RAIJlfPcBAUR3TCm/i4AC0xBBgo9HW4BBAwBQAA-w

Hey guys!
Wanna post my ideal ranger build here, now that the Sep. patch got me back to playing him. No really good name atm, maybe someone can suggest one?
Mostly used for PvE and WvW
I would like some feedback on it, what to change and why.
Thanks!
(edited by ArtifexDominus.8675)
Above is a full regen shout ranger that I’ve been working on. Please take a look and provide any feedback. The main focus of this build is regen coupled with might stacking and decent crit chance and trying to give the pet enough survivability through healing to deal as much damage as possible. This ranger I believe would also be good for dungeoning because shouts provide regen and swiftness to allies as well.
PvP condition build, very high bleed stacks
A bit of everything I guess.
