Another quality of life list, but a bit more straight-forward than previous entries with a fair amount of low-hanging fruit. Combined changes of most of these would have a noticeable impact for Ranger/Druid.

[Weapons]

  • Sword aftercasts reduced on the auto-attack chain.
  • Crippling Thrust (Sword 1b) to cleave up to 3 targets.
  • Hornet’s Sting (Sword 2a) to have a reduced cast-time.
  • Monarch’s Leap (Sword 2b) to have an extended duration to perform after Hornet’s Sting. Currently, the duration is 2s. Extend the duration to preferably 3s.
  • Path of Scars (Axe 4) radius increase as 90 is a bit small. 120 radius would be nice, as well as a tooltip including the attack radius.
  • Whirling Defense (Axe 5) uniformed radii for attack and reflect, preferably at 180. To keep a rant short, Ranger is the only profession to have double radii on their skill effects.
  • Solar Beam (Staff 1) to not require a target in order to cast. AF gates are in place.
  • Sublime Conversion (Staff 5) cast-time (½s) to be listed on the tooltip.
  • Stalker’s Strike (Dagger 4) still missing the extra range from Off-Hand Training during the specialization trait rework and merge.
  • Ricochet (Axe 1) to have its extra bounce restored.

[Utilities]

  • “Guard!” to work underwater.
  • “Sic ’Em!” to not require a target and provide a boon as per the shout rework. If a target selected, they are revealed. If no target is selected, the closest target in range is revealed. Like how Warrior’s “On My Mark!” functions but with vulnerability.
  • Glyphs to work underwater.
  • Glyph of Unity uniformed radii at 600 and remove or list the hidden 1-second ICD on the inverse version.
  • Spirit cooldowns to not reset twice when using their active/sacrifice. Cooldown currently resets on press and once again after the active has concluded.
  • Viper’s Nest number of targets increased from 3 to 5 to match our other Traps.

[Pets]

  • Lots of core Pets still require attention. Reduced cooldowns on skills and F2 commands, increased attack ranges, (implemented) reduced cast-times and after-casts, etc.
  • Porcine Forage (F2) to have the foraged item flip the F2 icon for use rather than appearing on the ground. Not low-hanging fruit, but Porcines need more love.
  • Pets to use Player Precision formula. Link in signature for those who are curious. Average 1524 Precision Pets have a critical hit chance around 10%. This essentially forces us to either take Beastmastery or Nature Magic for Fortifying Bond (Fury) in order for most Pets, besides Birds and Felines, to have a decent critical hit chance.
  • Attack My Target (F1) command altered to function as Skill Re-Targeting so Pet skills are no longer interrupted mid-cast when selecting a new target.
  • All Pets are unlocked in WvW so players can immediately get into it like PvP mode without the hassle of charming Pets in PvE maps.
  • Keybind for Activate/Stow Pet function.

[Traits]

  • Trapper’s Expertise to provide a bonus for Healing Spring. Preferably Vigor for allies on the initial trigger like how it used to function before with Vigorous Renewal.
  • Most Dangerous Game is still a niche and buffed, rejected Necromancer trait.
  • Light on Your Feet bonus to apply while moving as it was revealed during the specialization preview. Replace the 10% condition duration with condition damage to make it more competitive with Quick Draw and useful with Short Bow.
  • Predator’s Instinct is still under-powered and under-utilized.
  • Wilderness Knowledge to apply its effects upon activation for Survival utilities such as Lightning Reflexes.
  • Two-Handed Training to apply Fury when the Player dazes, stuns, knocks down, or knocks back an enemy with a weapon skill. This will make it work with Ranger’s core two-handed weapons while making the Fury gain more active and less RNG.
  • Clarion Bond to have a unique version of Call of the Wild with a lowered ICD from 30s to 20s and reduced Might, Fury, and Swiftness duration from 15s to 10s. This makes it more friendly with the default Pet-Swap cooldown and evens out the boon durations on Pet-Swap support traits that grant nearby allies boons (Vigorous Training & Windborne Notes).

Hmm that could be optional yes, but then the spike trap probably needs to be altered as well. Most hard CC-options we have are already power-damage oriented (glyphs, longbow, GS, axe offhand) so removing the CC from the spike trap (condi oriented) would be a shame I think.

Trap-oriented play-style is mostly WvW related, yes?
Giving Spike Trap a brief daze to keep Ancient Seeds proc, and reducing CC accordingly (from 45 to 30?) could do, what do you think ?

I mean, it’s not like you’ll go for condi trapper build in PvP theses days. That’s a suicide. And this way, power builds have only 1 option for utility trap, and that’s … bingo – a condi trap.
So by having Frost Trap as a hardcore utility dedicated trap that both condi and power builds can use would definitely be worth the nerf to Spike Trap in my opinion. And spike trap could still be used for condi bombing with the daze.
(I would be willing to go that far as to suggest even more of a nerf to spike trap – to change knockdown for 2-3 second root that would keep you in traps – being it a massive QoL improvement for Trapper builds)

Stalker’s Strike (Dagger #4) range restored to pre-HoT with offhand training (250 base + 300 range). It’s way too difficult to hit players with that tiny base range.

Serpent’s Strike (Sword #3) cast time reduced to match evade frame (3/4 sec).

Shortbow…well more than enough threads have been created to improve it. Just not happening.

I would say additionally give greatswords more love in case of cd aftercast and some dmg and maybe even if not low hanging fruit, swap hornet sting and monarchs leap and give dagger #5 a teleport to the hit target, ranger are nimble fighters but only have 1 gap closer, 2 as a druid.
But otherwise you nailed it, nothing more to say.

I’m not sure what you are implying here. However, I believe Entangle to be balanced enough. There are supposed to be counter-measures available after one is rooted.

I’m not sure what you are implying here. However, I believe Entangle to be balanced enough. There are supposed to be counter-measures available after one is rooted.

Damage yourself out of it. Or cleanse it. Or stealth away. Or port away. Or dodge like anything in this entire game. It’s telegraphed by far and on a 60 sec. CD.

Why walking in a heavy-movement game is a counter to our elite is beyond me. Most of classes have means to reduce incoming condi durations which will make roots last shorter. So they get rooted for (let’s say) 0,8 seconds, then walk out and we just witnessed a 0,8 sec. root on a 60 second cooldown. Now that’s just brilliant, assuming it’s almost the only elite in the game that is countered by almost everything, including damage.

Change the water spirit healing coefficients, it is not a good healing skill but with high healing power it is worse. for passive effect change it to 1, active skill self heal to 1, aoe heal to 0.5

I can’t recall the exact range of the backwards evade on Quick Shot. That’s something worth looking into still.

Plenty of us want Fortifying Bond baseline, but after years of asking and essentially being told “no,” I tend to leave that out.

I might open up another thread specifically on the Signet of Hunt suggestion to discuss more, or that could be done here. We just got a 4s unblockable for the Pet that can link between Marksmanship and Nature Magic.

Maybe not duration per-say, but what about – in general – Attack of Opportunity is unblockable? It is accessed by both Signet of the Hunt and Moment of Clarity. So, a +50% damage boost with you and your Pet’s next attack being unblockable.

Being on a single hit with a damage boost will definitely make both the Signet and Marksmanship even more appealing without adding too many unblockable buffs. Let’s ponder a bit on it.

Far as i know Quiks Shots backwardsjump range is 240, which feel quite short when trying to get out from mele range or AoE ring.

Yeah it is annoying frustratingto keep asking same thing over and over, but it took them years make changes on sword auto attack, buff shortbow, etc minor and major changes here and there that we keep on asking. Can’t see how this could be any different, unless we stop asking it , like it doesnt matter anymore. Add Fortifying Bond to rangers baseline is one of thous low hanging fruits that can improve build diversity, buff rangers overal performance and same time open up spot for some nice minor trait in Naure Magic trait line(which could fit on it theme as support trait line better than selfis pet buffing trait). Sure boon sharing in form of Fortifying Bondis not same thing as full sharing on everything(food, utility, special boons, etc) like we have asked for moust of time far as i remember, but atleast whit it there is no need to worry boon looping like what happened whit WHaO when it get boon sharing added on it.

By first reading that idea of adding unblockable on Attack of Opportunity sure sound good, but then i start think it more and have to say that at least i would rather take short duration over on hit. Bigest reason for that is same thing why i personaly dont find Attack of Opportunity as it is now fitting for ranger and that reason is simple the fact that this class dont have one swing big hit skills except maul, why eavent that should be altered more on favour of multiple hit with lower dmg boost per hit(look Assassin’s Signet or Light on your Feet). Also adding more traits to get unblockable on Marksmanship will make it too strong line and would only lead eventyaly to Moment of Clarity nerf.

And to end one more old suggsestion. Add short cripple on Precise Strike trait.

Without their condi duration reductions, entangle keeps them perma-rooted for the duration of the vines and before condi-clears. That in itself is sufficient enough.

I did not make it out to be a big sacrifice. I merely stated that it was one. Besides, investing in Expertise is not a big sacrifice either, considering it bumps up our condi-dps and helps draw-out clears earlier.

QoL i would like to see:

Sword change places of Hornet sting and monarchs leap.
Serpent strike apply 1 stack more of poison.
Give sword AA 1 attack that gives bleed with low power, give one attack a high power coefgicient and might application for both ranger and pet and the last has good power and cripple.

Change Splitblade into something like zealots defense of guardian, throwing multiple projectiles in short succession, every hit applies bleed.
Make the AoE of wintersbite baseline and apply an explo finisher.

Give crippling talon a blink to the target hit.

Give boonshare to pet and vice versa without trait.

Better oet UI, improving of vanilla pets.

Here is the qol i would like above all else: the ability to instantly leave celestial avatar like you can death shroud.
At the moment there is a 0.5 sec cd on the leave ca button when you enter and more than half the time all i want out of ca is to flash it for stealth or condi removal and none of the skills.

Maybe I need to make a “What is QoL” post. QoL implies making the game easier and more enjoyable without enhancing a character’s existing abilities, i.e. not making them more competitive against other professions. That’s the general meaning anyways. So an obvious QoL change would be fixing bugs, such as permataunt if you’re taunted mid-air. QoL is NOT buffing skills, which involves enhancing a particular class’s abilities, hence reducing QoL for people playing other professions in a competitive setting such as sPvP or WvW.

Calling skill buffs a QoL change is like someone making < $30k a year saying that a tax break for people making < $30k a year is a QoL change in the tax code. It’s not, because it results in less tax money being available for public services, but only specifically benefits those who make < $30k a year. If there’s a relative negative effect on other professions then it’s not a QoL change.

Having every pet available for WvW (like they are in PvP) would be nice. Sucks having to cap them repeatedly for each ranger when I have zero map completion on most of my characters.

This is going on the list. I like this because it can allow people to just jump into WvW and have right at it just like PvP. Place a Juvenile Wolf in a PvE map somewhere since there would be no need to charm it in WvW with this suggestion.
