When I first rolled ranger I was disappointed with the fact that pet names disappear whenever they’re swapped… No matter. I’ve made it my business to manually change my pet’s name when I change them! Hear are the names of all the pets I currently have.

I caught a Murellow and named her Bella

Jaguar – Surprise Lovin
Jungle Stalker – Mr Meow
Reef Drake – Future Elder Dragon
River Drake – Bubbles (the deep sea elder dragon)
Wolf – Maverick (dog I grew up with)
Krytan Drakehound – Brady (one of my current dogs … it looks like him).
Shark – Bruce

I have my wolf Paw and my Jaguar Purrella

Ice Dtrake – Ice
Reef Drake – Mushu
Arctic wolf – Frostfang/Frostbite
Wolf – Fear
Snow leopard – Frostpaw
Spiders – Arac
Jellyfish – Blubb
White Moa – Frostbeak
Pink Moa – Rosa
Polar Bear – Iorek
Blue Moa – Proctor
Jungle stalker – Leo

Raven – Reeva (would have used it far more if the wings wern’t visually broken)

Pigs must be the pet type I use the least… There for they have no particular names…. would be Bacon I guess.

When I swap around a lot (to adapt in fractals/dungeons) I just call pets Eco, to name them something fast (I really HATE the Juvenile blah, bla kitten). I would have changed and used a far greater variety of pets if the names stayed!

I call all of them Pewpew . At the end they are there for me to pew pew.

So, I remember someone saying that ANet didn’t want to use the space to store pet names, so I did a few calculations…

There are less than 50 pets in the game, but we’ll round up.
Allowing 20 characters would make a Ranger with all pets named use up 1000b of data, lets round up to 1kb.
Ok, so lets say there are 2 million ranger characters in the game that have all pets named. That is 3906.25 Mb, less than 4 GB.

ANet, I’ll happily pay for a 4GB external HDD if I can save pet names!

Here’s the thing with pet names … your local client could handle it for you. I see no reason for it to be handled client side. If they want to still authenticate the name for length, etc. then they could have the client save them and send the name to the server when you re-use that pet. If the name sent is invalid, it reverts to the Juvenile.

Very easy.

Never even thought of keeping it client side. Nice.

Just giving this a bump as they gave into the engineer’s cry about the ‘hobosacks’ and are basically rebuilding that profession they could maybe make one change that has zero balance effect and would be a major step in easing the general perception of developer apathy (if not hostility) towards the profession (not its players they want us to continue being customer too much for it to get the that point).

I also name my lynx sausage lynx, but I name my wolf that I pair him with Duran Duran because hanging out with a pet named sausage lynx all day makes him hungry like the wolf

Man, this change would be so fantastic. The only reason I don’t really ever change my pet up (except when I NEED to in dungeons/sPvP) is because I can’t stand “Juvenile X” following me around, but I can’t be bothered to rename it every darn time. T__T

So for the most part, I run around with a Black Bear named “Pickles”, purely for aesthetic reasons. (Black bears look like total kitten s.) He is our guild mascot, and has become so infamous that if anything goes wrong my friends instantly scream “PICKLES, NO. BAD PICKLES!” over voice chat.

Only other pet I’ve bothered to name is an eagle named “America Eff Yeah”. ^^
