PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
I love it when you do things like this. You’ve now made me utterly GIDDY, and I shall remain so until the 14th.
Amazing change! There myay be hoe for Rangers yet!
Could you also PLEASE address the discrepancy of the Black Widow pet? I really like my spider but I can’t use him if he has only half the life of the Forest Spider. An easy solution would be to be only able to equip one or the other if having both would be problematic.
thanks for the changes john
really appreciate that although i’m not really playing my ranger anymore..
but hell, who knows if the other changes turn out good
Yeah, I am hoping that this means that there will be other changes as-well! Hey, maybe next time they have a “state of the game” talk, they will actually mention rangers as being important!
aww man now people are gunna start figuring out my build pooey
I really don’t think necros and elementalists need better skill speed buffs. Elementalists can be traited for speed and get a buff from a staff skill/have several dagger skills to help move along faster and can be the hardest class to catch in the game if played right. Necromancers can get really, really long speed buffs with shadow walk+warhorn (you can get over 40s of swiftness with only a 15s CD overall). I know I don’t feel the need for better speed buffs on either of those but I am thrilled about the 25% speed increase on my poor ranger. I’ll gladly drop one of my other skills for it.
As for the Black Widow pet, I dunno, I figure the discrepancy is fair since it’s not an accessible pet for anyone who didn’t play GW1 extensively. But that may be just me.
Either way I am so excited about this news oh my god.
It would be nice to know why thieves have higher speed, better me lee and ranged dps and better condition attacks than do rangers, in addition to perma stealth?
Yes Thank You! 15 char limit thing
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
o..m..g… OMG !
I love you JonPeters :p
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
This is excellent news. I’ve truly enjoyed playing Ranger and often had Signet of the Hunt on my bar when doing overland PvE exploring. Now I’m thinking Signet of the Hunt will be stapled onto my skill bar.
+50% =1,5 x damage
Cheers… if only it was 150%!
It is. Since the base damage is already 100%, +50% damage results in 150% damage.
Still wont effect speed during combat, I’ll stick to shooting bunnies.

Of course, but unless I am totally failing mathematically here…
A 100% increase is double. Thus, 2×.
Therefore, saying “Damage increased 150% on next attack,” as the icon does in game, should mean an increase of 2.5x in damage.
And moreover, if it is indeed only 1.5x damage, the skill should read “Damage increased 50% on next attack.”
I am testing this as I write this. It appears to be closer to 2.5x damage than 1.5x, but the effect is not working as I expected it to. I will post results shortly. I think the subtext in the wiki is incorrect (“Attack of Opportunity is an effect that makes the next attack do 50% more damage.”).
Still wont effect speed during combat, I’ll stick to shooting bunnies.
Signet of the Hunt boost speed during combat too.
So… upon testing I respectfully request, Jon, that you look into the active effect of SotH as well.
Using a steady shortbow with 30pts in Marksmanship for the Signet of the Beastmaster trait to have active effects of signets on myself, and no other boons or traits. I stripped all my armor and any stat boosts.
Regular damage = 24
Thus, 1.5x should = 36
and 2.5x should = 60
SotH did not work. I got one hit of 59, but 99% hit for 24 dmg after activating the signet. I also saw a couple hits of 36, strangely enough. I did not count any crits.
I can crunch the numbers if you like – draw up a big ’ole spreadsheet even. I tested with my pet and SotH only functioned as it was supposed to about 10% of the time.

God that was refreshing to read, thanks. Cant wait till 14th
I might have to dust off my 80 ranger that I shelved.
This is a good “fix”, but it won’t be enough. Not even by a long shot.
Still wont effect speed during combat, I’ll stick to shooting bunnies.

SotH lol good skill 10% speed impresive all characters if not fight with me I cant be faster and all can easy run me.
Ranger WTF is ranger.
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
Thank you, kind sir.
I shall remember this and randomly burst onto the scene with a solution to one of your problems at some point. That’s how the open-world RPG game of life’s karma system works, isn’t it?? Ah, details.
In terms of ranger movement related items, I hope they can fix up this slow motion bug as well in future patches:

Thanks alot for the change Jon! But while you’re at it please take a look on the signets cooldown, they’re far to long in comparison with other classes. And also the usefullness of Signet of the Hunt… because lets be honest, blowing something that has that big cooldown for 50% extra damage for ONE auto-attack its quite… bad.
I love 25% speed on my thief; I will die from pure enjoyment to have this on my Ranger!
(edited by deepwinter.9015)
Really love this change. Now my Ranger can get from lake to lake much faster!
Meh. Not holding my breath Anet – I’ll be more effective at running away now. Somewhat.
(edited by thrice.9184)
:) and with arrow travel time fix this is going to be soooo good.
I can’t believe what I’m reading??
Longbow AND speed buff?? Ooooo I’m hoping some of the pet issues are getting some love too!!
This is soooo exciting…I just got my Ranger in all exotics and whisper skins!
Tried to abandon her and reroll, but I just couldn’t do it!
Rangers need WAY more love than this.
Rangers need WAY more love than this.
I’m pretty sure there’s more.
Last big update (as disappointed as everyone says they were) was still a lot of changes. Upping projectile speed and signet speed would only be three of the bulletpoints on the list of changes. So there’s definitely more in store. And they’ve been talking about shout changes, signet changes, and pet changes… So I’m going to have a little hop and think that there’s more.
Though honestly, these fixes are going to be a substantial help to bow users, even if seemingly subtle.
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
With changes like this, i have hope!

Of course there will be more. I’ve heard we are still pretty weak underwater.
Just want to make sure you don’t miss Necromancers signet of the locust. Also needs a boost to 25% (currently at 10% like signet of the hunt)

This isn’t the necromancer forum. Shoo.

maths failed.
“plus/more 50%” means 1.5 times.
“plus/more 100%” means 2 times.
“plus/more 150%” means 2.5 times
key word is “plus” or “more”
if it says “damage IS 50%”..then it means 0.5 times.
Who knows…. they might really increase the movement spd to 25% but at the same time increase thieves to 40%. So that they still be the fastest profession.
One thing is sure… Thieves are gonna kitten and moan about this !

Indeed, the description as it reads should be 2.5x damage, but if you saw my other post later, testing revealed an utter failure of the active effect of the signet to work. Has anyone else tested it?
Sad to see this from Jon Peters though.
“Don’t worry we wouldn’t leave you behind. Locust is getting improved as well.”
“Why not, Signet of Air needs it too”
Not that I don’t want other classes improved but I though this was more to help our class be more mobile than other classes.
If you havn’t seen the post in the Necro forum apparently they are going to 25% too.
Even if it is 25 on necro I would never equip it on mine. Necros don’t benefit much from kiting whereas it makes a huge difference for rangers
I don’t mind that all 10% movement signets get upgraded now. At least it will make them a more worthwhile choice to slot.

Suddenly my excitement for this signet improvement dropped dramatically. It’s still kind of nice and all but if everyone can go the same speed it’s not so useful. It just becomes one of those “Take it or you’re the slow guy” rather than “Take it and you’re the fast guy.”
But if this is a speed buff fix for signet for all classes, do it realy help Rangers? See that there is a post on the necro forum about the same.

Well, that’s assuming that everyone will equip it. I’m definitely keeping it as an option on my ranger though I don’t have any use for SoAir on my ele (well, if given a 4th utility slot I would).

I don’t think it’s intended to make rangers feel special. I think they’re just working toward making all skills viable.
(edited by Voltar.8574)
I knew it was too good to be true.
Even if we get the nebulous other pushes (Longbow+Pet reliability) I already expect other classes will get more love – making tomorrows patch another relative nerf for us rangers.
Though I also expect the rage in the ranger forum to stop because the last competive pvp+wvw player will resign. Be sceptical and call me a pessimist, but thats what IS going to happen…
Nice change, but he convienently leaves out “we’;re bringing all MS signets up to par” and instead gives us the ILLUSION of being given special treatment
