Ranger Patch Notes - June 25, 2013 - Official
my cute dark elf guard is currently at lvl 25 .
I’m a casual gamer….my main goal was to do world completion which i completed with much gusto on my only Lvl 80…My Ranger.
I never got into dungeons or fractals much as Since the beginning Pets were wonky. But when i was forced to WvW (to get POI’s) i became a better at supporting others..not just my Pet.
I’ve been a BM….Trapper and will finally give spirits a chance……but more and more my warrior LvL 40 looks much more appealing….
I’m just glad that i never got any ascended gear…..Except the Karka queen trinket….but i was hoping to build up my Ranger as my only End game dungeons/fractal/high lvl PVE toon.
In light of this patch…..I have no idea if spirits are viable….
Spirits are the same , one trait merge wont change the fact that they are fundamentally broken . They can have some uses in tower defense if you place them well enough , you can even do a bleed type build on the longbow using on crit bleed, sharp stones and fire spirit to deliver AOE conditions . But , they wont see much use as long as the rewards are bad and the terms of use totally not in our favou
People who think BM Rangers relied entirely on Pets for damage don’t understand the spec.
I’ve got videos of me using all different kinds of pets, from Cats/Drakes/Pigs/Dogs/Devours/Spiders/Birds
Yes some pets were obviously better then others..But you could still kill people fairly easily with most pets because the power of BM Bunker is the ability to apply a crap ton of conditions (and a lot of different ones) onto the target very quickly and consistently. The Pet damage is just icing.
BM Bunker is still viable after the patch, Only we have even less choices now then before….While every other Ranger build has also eaten a nerf because these pets were gutted.
Anyone who thinks this patch is fine needs to get their head examined.
I think there will be a bunker trapper hybrid now.
I’ll try 30 WS/30 skirmishing for traps, and then run the same weaponsets, no shortbow, and the other 10 points I throw on NM.
For utilities I’ll try Signet of Renewal, Spike Trap, and Serpent Trap or Frost Trap. Frost Trap is actually very useful against a thief as even with shadow Arts I’ll have bleeding, poison, burning, and chill and weakness layered on top of each other.
I’ll take most likely one of the woves still for the CC and then a raven/eagle.
With frost trap I can leap for a frost aura and flame aura, should be pretty good against melee builds.
i dont understand what the prob is …
in gw1 they seperated pvp/pve skills, and it worked.. and we had triple the choices..and we could choose to have a pet or not, it was OUR character, our playstyle….and there was not that much ranger hate. seemed like the community was content…
now it feels we took steps backwards, it feels worse. like they dont have any experience which this class anymore.
i would have assumed that they would have used the structure that works….and not go silly on us..
just a thought
That’s because hardly any gw1 coders are still at anet. They have all left for better jobs.
What happened to balancing with small changes? In one patch they did a massive nerf to the shortbow’s range, they move a 5 point trait that almost every build used to a 30 point trait (quickness on pet swap) and did an almost universally across the board significant pet DPS nerf. These are not small changes and they all came in the same patch. How is this fine tuning?
Just putting it out there what if these changes are what the balance team thinks of a small?
Then their level of stupidity surpasses even where I thought it was (and I already thought they were pretty kitten stupid).

These kinds of builds have been out for a long time now. Nothing new is about them and to think this patch would steer them into that direction is stupid. BM is still as viable you just need to work more for the kill, get over it.

Before I get over anything, work on your reading. That these builds existed already has nothing to do with the fact that BM was the better roamer, and now it’s not.
Try to spin gutting pet damage and the minor trait displacement however you want, it’s still a substantial nerf.
The developers would ask us to believe that all the recent “balance” changes were fair, necessary, and good for the game.
I would find that easier to accept were they not changing their own previous work that supposedly was originally fair, necessary, and good.
Maybe it’s just me, but given the magnitude of these changes that thought bothers me.

New dungeon (specifically the laser screens) is rough on pets, flag them invulnerable to certain mechanics or something.
After playing the new dungeon on my warrior I wouldn’t torture my pet or my group by bringing my ranger in there…
They really need to make pets invulnerable to damage while they’re on Passive in PvE (as long as they don’t attack anything), it would fix so many problems.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald

Or just stop designing content that complete negates the ranger class mechanic.
Is it me, or are all the above posts mostly concerned with WvW builds and PVP , neither of which , I play a lot.? I would like to hear from someone who runs a condition damage PVE build , that is , like me appalled at the changes to pets (namely the 50% damage reduction for the felines…who give the bleeds) and the range of the short bow…(which has the condition damage skills). I really don’t feel like re gearing my toon, I may just change to use my level 80 Guardian or Warrior . I thought this game was meant to cater for all play styles……not nerf them. Constructive comments would be appreciated.

Not that I agree with the range change on short bow, but if you are already a trap focused condition build you were already in shorter range often, so that part didn’t change too much, but without more information about your trait build/gear selection I doubt you will get too much constructiveness from the forums in general.
