See you in Tyria.
Ranger Patch notes 19 April
See you in Tyria.
The new sword animation on a human is really ridiculous…
Does this mean I’m not forced to bring SnR anymore? I’m kind of sick of having a skill that takes a slot on my utility bar whose usage is reliant on my teammates going down…
I’m down with all these changes.
Edit: Not too happy about the DPS loss on new sword. Same cast times as before (½ ¼ ¾) but with more aftercasts. Even more disappointing is that the 2nd strike still only hits one target. Ugh…
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

Forgetable buffs on shortbow.
Ok improvement on mainhand axe.
Super buff on offhand axe.
No more stupid gigantic celestial avatar icon.
Oh and they found a way to nerf staff. I’m impressed.
>SnR
Could be worse. SnR was an expected nerf….
>MHAxe
Finally, some Mainhand Axe changes. Ricochet is better and Winter’s Bite actually does a damaging condition now. Very interesting, though I still think it should be a Projectile Finisher or be Baseline AoE instead of traited
>Shortbow
Not bad. They’ve upped its power, but I still feel like barring Poison, MHAxe will be better for Condition damage when you cannot flank since you’ll still have OH Torch swapping (and projectile finisher chances within fire fields) and more consistent bleeds with Splitblade+WB
>OH Axe
Very nice changes overall. Might actually use it with Sword more often.
…..Also, is it me, or does Lunar Impact feel like its channel’s been slowed down?

Whoever is buffing the Ranger weapon skills needs to realize that upping numerical values wont fix crappy weapons like SB (seriously, upping swiftness on Quick Shot when high swiftness is already easy is pointless, the axe auto is not going to stop sucking with extra might duration). They have the right idea with the Winter’s Bite change though, MH axe really needs to made to be 100% condi weapon. I think the sword auto is worse than before but thats personal taste because I didn’t mind the animation lock before.
So did they not buff the damage on crossfire? Was anyone using any of the other skills on SB for their damage?
Sword auto 3 seems to hit behind you as well.
My initial assessment of the sword is positive. Yes, I miss sticking to my target but I can dodge when I want. I haven’t tried SB yet but will later. With any new changes it will take some PvP matches and open world bosses for me to really try them out. I am enjoying axe though, very nice.
See you in Tyria.

the poison volley dmg buff isn’t bad. Not amazing but not bad.
Whirling Axes is crazy dmg right now, but you will never guess what it still doesn’t combo with…quick draw…yeah I don’t even know how since they reduced its cast time.
Smokescale Smoke Cloud + SotP + Whirling Defense + Quickening Zephyr…
Holy burst dps batman

yeah it does, weird stuff.

It looks like the cartoon uppercut where you hold your arm behind you and spin it twice before punching.

My game keeps crashing, can you move while using it now or are you still rooted?

Still rooted.
Well, that’s Search and Rescue out of the wvw bar i guess.
Save the Bell Choir activity!

lame
Not liking the change for Path of Scars, could of been a directional arrow with adjustable range rather than an AoE

It would get stuck in terrain sometimes, this is to prevent that I’m sure.

I don’t understand the logic. They vastly improved PoS for pvp purposes and obviously recognized the dps on WD was pathetically low. Why do they still think a 3s melee root with nothing but projectile reflect and retaliation as a defense is going to see serious use?
Additional changes I’d make to shortbow:
Crossfire damage increased by 30%.
Reduced cone spread of Poison volley by around 20% to guarantee that at least 2 shots hit your target at maximun range.
Quick Shot now also removes Cripple, Chill and Immobilize.
Cripling Shot Cripple duration increased to 6s.
Concussion Shot now grants 2 seconds of Quickness if you successfully interrupt a cast.
It’s supposed to be your kiting weapon, it’s terrible at it.
The change I’d make to Sword:
Hornet Sting has its cast time reduced to ¼s.
Sword only needs that, otherwise it’s a fine weapon now.

lol the whole chain does. Would be really great for going nuts in a group of enemies if 2 cleaved.
Should probably mention this as well, for anyone still struggling with these pets:
- The Juvenile Electric Wyvern pet is now available from the Wyvern Nest after players take control of the Central Advance Camp.
- The Juvenile Tiger is no longer hidden in an area that can only be accessed once the Mouth of Mordremoth has been defeated.

Really good changes, especially on quick shot. Still needs the bleed on auto to be changed so that flanking isn’t a requirement. If they feel every shot would be too strong they could make it 66% chance from the front for 1 bleed and 100% chance for 2 bleeds while flanking.
The change I’d make to Sword:
Hornet Sting has its cast time reduced to ¼s.
Sword only needs that, otherwise it’s a fine weapon now.
I’ll add that the new sword chain needs aftercasts reductions on the entire chain, especially 1b and 1c. We received a DPS loss due to the aftercasts that came with the new animations, and now it suffers from what mainhand Axe did previously (aftercasts).
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I really appreciate the changes Anet made but two things bug me:
1. Sword aftercasts (see above)
2. Training grounds don’t have options to give pets boons as well. As they are a major damage source, I can’t properly test different builds/traits becoz I can’t simulate how pets damage changes under swiftness/might etc.
Would be cool if those two things could get fixed

Been able to consistently activate Quickdraw’s bonus now after the update. Must use it immediately after swapping weapons. 1s after and it can’t use it, so the window is not as lenient.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
i perused these notes as i was debating reinstalling the game, and im just seeing the same old ANet pattern, in a different package. not saying it’s all bad, but it’s certainly disconnected from reality. in other words, there’s nothing in there that makes the core ranger as viable as any druid spec.

do people honestly believe that this did…anything?
better than nerfs I suppose
