Ranger or warrior
have you tried a different build? if you are dying fast then you are properly a full on glass cannon..
try add some toughness and healing power to your build see how that works out
I used to die very fast.. but then i speced beastmastery bunker.. now it takes ages to kill me but i do admit that was a sacrifice to my dps..
if you dont spec right any class will die fast
regarding my personal experience in wvwvw as a ranger, i only use my skills as utility to the group,
therefore, i dont go alone, (im not that confident in my damage output),
if you are looking for a damage dealer that doesnt rely on your pet, go for a warrior,
since our damage is split in to two, so that if one part dies your damage will be halved..
(but it is rewarding for me to micromanage my pet for CC and damage as long as it does not die)
like what others stated in different topics in this subforum, there are only two viable build to make you more or less survivable, bunker or trapper,
(personally i tried Crit damage build, and it was not rewarding in a sense that you will always compare your damage to other classes that excels in raw damage output)
As others have said, try different builds or tactics. As straight damage dealers, warriors are one of the best. But Rangers can be made to be extrememly tough to kill. We can trait to have just about perma-regen & perma-vigor, meaning we can dodge endlessly. And if traited, our pets will have tons of protection from so much dodging. That’s just a quck example of Ranger survivability. That doesn’t even take into account skills.
Also, as Oldgrimm (great name) mentioned, try being support. Healing Spring, Fern Hound howl, Warhorn #5, Entangle…these are some great tools to help your party in WvW.
Rangers are completely viable at range & melee. Try em both.

I have been playing a Ranger since launch, focused almost solely on WvW with a modest amount of sPvP (rank 20). I recently leveled a warrior to 80 and spent the last week playing him every night in WvW as shout heals/hammer.
Oldgrimm hit one of the big issues right on the head. Even the tankier pets can be difficult to keep alive in a larger scale, prolonged WvW fight. On the flip side they can provide a great advantage in smaller engagements. A lot depends on whether you expect to be roaming around and ninja taking yaks and camps or fighting with an organized guild.
Another issue is that toughness is critical for survivability in WvW. Warriors get +healing and +toughness together, Rangers get +condition with their toughness. If you don’t want to play a condition based build then you are somewhat wasting trait benefits there.
It has only been a week for me but overall my assessment is that I am able to do about the same amount of damage as my bunker ranger with almost double the survivability.
I found this post. If I’m reading it right, it sounds like the Ranger SB is still quite comparable to a Warrior Rifle without the pet!

I’m looking to start a new profession. Trying to decide between Ranger and Warrior for range damage -or- maybe range support. Having to deal with the pet AI worries me, but maybe the flaws have been over dramatised?
On the other hand, the Warrior seems that it is meant to be melee focused with range as a backup, so that concerns me as well. Can LB/Rifle work in both in zergs and small skirmishes?
Anyway, I will be watching this thread intently. I would love to read more opinions on ranged Warriors vs ranged, err, Rangers, especially pros and cons in WvW large and small.
Sorry, I can’t offer an opinion yet myself!

If you where dying its because you had a glass cannon build and you where not properly controlling the enemy by keeping them at range and having them eat your deadly traps, which is what glass cannons should be best at. In retrospect, warriors are more head on and they can do their damage quickly without dying as long as they can stay on top of their target. So it would be advisable to try to read more in detail what the other builds for rangers are. If you are all about DPS then turn your glass cannon into a trapper, while using your pet cleverly. If you want more melee and survibability then Beast Master is right for you, but you really need to understand that ranger is the most complex class to master, just take your time with it and read the forums for existing help.

Which pet should I use for ranger?
Get a warrior if you wanna enjoy actual content, that is, everything not pvp.
In pvp, you only have 2 builds, most of your traits are bugged and most of your skills are kitten.
If you enjoy Pvp more, get a thief or mesmer. No use beeing a Ranger at all, same goes for Engie and Necro.
Which pet should I use for ranger?
For what? WvW? Also, what build are you running? The answer to this will change depending on this and often other variables as well.
All flaws of ranger aside, ANet did an absolutely brilliant job of balancing the pet selection so that there is never a single pet that is always hands down superior like has been the case often in WoW.
Aham, but which class preforms better in pvp and WvWvW?
you dont need to be someone elses class to enjoy the game, if you really want to be a ranger despite its class lacking abilities, i suggest you go with it.
(i personally love rangers even if the world tells me otherwise)
**tip to be happy, acknowledge what others will/might say, but dont let it rule your life

^Agreed. Despite the known issues with Rangers, Necros, & Engies people still play them because they’re fun. And at the end of the day this is a game, the sole purpose of which is to have fun. I play 3 classes right now (Ranger, Guardian, Necro)…2/3 of which are on the they-suck-don’t-play-em list but ya know what? I enjoy them, especially Ranger. Ranger, more than any other profession I’ve tried yet, is adaptable to kitten near every situation. Melee, range, support, bunker, speed, control….have a ball.

Which class is more dominating in wvwvw, the warrior. If that is a big criteria, roll a warrior.
Heavy Halo, Warrior JQ
Get a warrior or guardian.
Warrior has less utility, more damage, counterwise for guardian.
