Rangers Compared to other Classes?
cant have 80 trait points.
Down Under – Stormbluff Isle
When people are complaining they have the short end of the stick I would assume it’s for PvP reasons.
So yes the ranger is probably the best class in PvE because it has a baller kitten pet, but on the other hand we dont have a role in competitive PvP teams because we dont outshine any other class at anything.
@Arasuki- you’re correct. I meant 0/0/30/10/30.
@HappinessFactory- if you read the other class forums, they also complain that their classes are crap in PvP. The thief complaining about rangers that I saw in the thief forum was basing the complaint on PvP.

^ Essentially this.
Out of most of the successful Tourny teams most don’t include Rangers. The only other class that is very unrepresented it necros and I believe both classes need some fixes. Once they actually fix pets to be much more responsive Rangers may have a fighting chance.
Sadly at the moment Rangers are the jack of all trades class.
Edit: Skolvikings I’m not sure how you ended up with 80 trait points but fill a bug report.

Even if rangers were twice as bad as every other class in every possible aspect, all I care about is this: am I having fun playing the game as a ranger? That answer is yes.
The good news is they’re not that bad. My point was just that rangers are fun. Could they use some tweaks and do they need some bugs fixed? Of course, same as all the other classes.
I’m definitely enjoying playing my Ranger so far – they have such a beautiful and engaging style about them!
I’m sure there are minor tweaks to be made just like all the classes, but at least in PvE Ranger seems to offer me a whole lot of versatility and interesting combinations.
Personally, after forcing myself to try and mesh with the Mesmer ‘illusions-as-summons’ gameplay (they are totally the new Minion Master/Bomber of Guild Wars ), Ranger just offers so much more coherence and flow for my taste and preferences.
I love the way I have lots of combo fields and finishers to choose from, and I really like the flavour of the animal-invocation attacks (jump-roll-twist-backflip sword!) as well as the mystical empowerment of the nature spirits. I like that I don’t have to micro-manage my pet (too much anyway), and I love the amount of different species that I have as optional companions.
I also really like that my character doesn’t stop learning character-defining new things at around level 20, but continues to interact and explore the world as I go, charming new pets that offer me new abilities and ever greater customisation. It feels as though I’ve got more of a meaningful journey to look forward to than just bigger numbers or different minor talent effects and builds.
Anyway, very good job on the Ranger, Arenanet.
Edit: Oh, and I just have to say that while Healing Spring is definitely my favourite Ranger ability, Whirling Defense comes a close second. I don’t know if it’s a bug that it reflects and is a combo finisher, but whoa it has a lot of offensive, defensive and utility uses!

lolol I love ranger, i love my pets ^^ I’ve always liked ninja-ish abilities like as a thief but pets are more important for me LOL. but other than that, I’m not sure but many people have asked me to join them in PvP and they say they need me for dungeons or whatnot that rangers are useful. But perhaps as a support and tactical steady damage role…
Its true, OP. Each class forum has lots of complaints about PvP and wanting fixed or buffed, etc.
For PvE though, nobody has it better than rangers. I’ve played all of the classes and PvE is ridiculously easy as a ranger. Its pretty fun gameplay too, and pets are varied and interesting. Thus there is a high percentage of rangers among players.(2nd only to warriors in the stats Arenanet released)
The only issue I have with my Ranger is it’s Signets suck compared to my Warriors. Oh, and the Warriors “Signet of Rage”.
Signet of Rage – 30 seconds of Might, Fury, & Switfness. 60 second CD
Rampage As One – 20 seconds of Stability, Fury, & Swiftness. 120 second CD
Longer buffs than our similar Elite, with half the cooldown time.

@Braxxis its because of stability. makes you immune to a lot of CC, that said, as a ranged char i’m not hit by a lot of CC because i can see it coming so i’d like a change. Also, signet of stone is amazing when you get the trait so that it effects you as well. 5 sec of invulnerability? yes please.
My issue with rangers is just an issue with the game as a whole. Flat dmg is currently better than condition damage. And rangers for the most part are heavily reliant on their condition dmg.
Also note that rampage as one makes every attack you or a pet do STACK might. It can lead to rather insane stacks of might.
i think some additional specialized dps elites would be nice tbh. stability is only really helpful for when you are in melee and out of endurance, while the might stacking is only good for when you have a pet-heavy trait spec. because pets attack slow as hell so you’ll only get 8 instances of might on yourself at most. Both of those aspects make the one dps elite have an extreme cooldown whereas Signet of Rage has a 1min cooldown and the buffs lasts half of that.
Braxxis, every class envies Signet of Rage, welcome to the club.
That’s why I’m merrily playing my Warrior now and put my 80 Ranger in a corner.

Tell that to my mesmer, because this statement is just a blatant lie…
@OP Eh, i don’t think rangers are really in a bad place in either pvp nor PvE, i’ve been playing ranger in both and doing really well, and if you trait right you can excel in different areas, and due to the prof, still be really good in others.
IE: I can put all my points into defensive stuff and STILL be offensive, and vice versa.
