Rangers and dungeons
lol same things have been posted over and over again in this forum. there has been threads asking for pet less rangers with huge long debates over it. most of us believe that we should not be able to go pet less, because it is a core mechanic of the class and our identity. it can be our choice to perma-stow but we should nto get compensation because it is a choice to remove one of our abilities. like if mesmers wanted to not use clones… Or u decided not to use an off hand weapon. theres no reason we should get compensation because you’re asking to change your class for the day.
pet ai is messed up indeed, but there are some ways to handle this for now.. many of us use devourers and spiders for their ranged attacks so they can keep away from instakill hits and aoe. as well they are known to be relatively tough and tankable as well as having good skills. they are also somewhat smart and knows to evade or burrow.
also its our jobs as rangers to keep an eye on the pet. pet swap before they go down. heal urself and pet when necessary. call them in and out of battle quite often when necessary.
other than that, rangers can be often the longest lasting class in a dungeon. countless times ive been the last standing. we have a ton of great skills in our arsenal to stay alive, kite and do steady damage. my build for dps and some survivability has done quite well. think of the strategies you can use and think of u and ur pet as a team not just the pet to go absorb damage bc it can’t. not even you or a warrior can in dungeons lol

Your options are:
1. Use ranged pets
2. Keep your pet by your side at all times, essentially only using the buffs it provides
3. Reroll
The last is my preferred solution, after getting a ranger to 80 and trying to deal with the plethora of ridiculous bugs, poorly designed skills and mediocre performance for a while. Honestly, I’ve a character in every profession except elementalist and engineer; most are 50+, and all of them are more fun/satisfying to play than ranger.
