Is the damage coefficient reduced? Or was it the loss of % damage traits? I haven’t used a LB in too long and can’t tell a difference. I just randomly slapped on a LB and went to a level 80 PvE map, hit for about 9k which seems reasonable. No trait or armor adjustments to accommodate the LB.

The old coefficient for RF was 3.75 with a base damage of 1320 (see wiki).

I seriously doubt it was touched beyond the loss of % damage modifiers, but I just got home and will be able to “test by approximation” to be certain once I’m done patching, among a million other things.

im getting about 7k with zerker ammy and no might stacks. it could be the lack of damage mods accounting for a small decrease. I definitely do feel a small decrease. but I don’t think RF itself was touched.

I’ll be able to truly notice at Jormag and Teq. At Jormag I can do 10,000 total on the build up for the ice crystals you knock down on the second part. On Teq I usually get from 10,000 to 12500 on the burn phase. So I’ll see in about 30 minutes when Jormag is up.

2142 power, tooltip says 3250. That checks out I think, same damage coefficient of 3.75 (using ascended LB.)

It does feel significantly weaker. It could be a bug.

It’s lost % damage bonuses. You can probably more than make up the difference with the new traits like remorseless, extra might from a bunch of sources, quick draw, etc.

Same damage coefficient, it’s just the traits are different. Old traits that gave % damage now give other bonuses. Overall it’s a sizable buff.

Everyone got their Toughness increased by 150 (baseline). The difference in the formula got tipped more to defense.

5% from Eagle Eye is gone.

Apart from that, I haven’t seen a single change in damage.

It seemed ok for Jormag, but I was getting lots of buffs from might. And the amount of damage I was doing to him in the first phase seemed correct. So it may not be nerfed at all.

Thing to be checked:
Where did you try the Rapid Fire?

Downscale is now nerfed and Upscale is now (edit) buffed.
If it was a low level region – all damage got nerfed. Not only RF.

Final test was in Frostgorge against Jormag. I believe everything is fine now. The damage output seemed to be almost normal.

Why buff it in the last patch only to reduce it yet again?

If people actually read the progression of my tests after my first, and obviously incorrect observation, Rapid-fire is just as it was before(only longer range due to 1500 rng). As I said I tested it in areas like Frostgorge against Jormag before reset and the damage was nearly identical. so I was satisfied after that that my initial panic was un-needed. And after reset, at Tequatal, I confirmed it even more. My direct damage was identical to pre-patch.

So, in conclusion, sorry for starting a panic. I usually wait until others post about something and test it myself to see if what they are saying is true. This time I jumped the “bow” and posted in a panic.

This is because we’re missing a massive number of stat points!

I was wondering where my 5% crit chance disappeared to, and was going to make a post about it until I saw this thread! It makes sense that if Precision took a massive stat hit, that Power and Ferocity has as well!

Since they removed these stats on trait lines, our gear is NOT making up these stats correctly.

If you were full zerker and 6 points into marksmanship and skirmishing prepatch, you should be losing around 6% crit damage and 6% crit chance. Additionally, you lose another 5% LB damage because of trait changes. The skill itself has not been nerfed.

I actually did some testing.

The first is from before the update, the last is the current stats.

Same equipment, full traits, same longbow in hand, but no buffs (food, bloodlust, etc). 2nd image has Spotter activated (first image uses Eagle Eye and Read the Wind, so couldn’t have Spotter). Spotter gives 7.14% crit chance.

  • 3 less power
  • 74 more toughness
  • 26 less vitality
  • 3.09% more crit chance, oddly with 139 more precision (with Spotter active)
  • 6.33% less crit damage, with 85 less ferocity
  • 5% less damage from missing Eagle Eye
  • 10% less damage while flanking from changed Hunter’s Tactics
  • 10% more crit chance while flanking from new Hunter’s Tactics

Was using 6/6/0/2/0 build with Strength of Spirit in first image.

That really adds up. I would routinely do 4k+ with the LB’s vanilla AA prepatch, but didn’t get one above that last night.

I think my pattack actually went up but taking those stats modifier away really affected the end result negatively.

Gonna need to test some more and see. Didn’t even try Skirmishing line at all.

Yes that does add up, but you can get a higher chance to crit now, so maybe it’s balanced out? I don’t know.

Less high numbers when critting, but the crits should happen more often.

It’s hard to compare the old and new traits. You can’t show in a damage formula that LB rangers can now go full glass and take full condi removal, or have lots of CC from the BM line, etc.

They didn’t nerf the damage of the skill (that I can tell).

What happened is they nerfed the damage of the whole weapon by removing the 5% damage increase from Eagle Eye and you may have lost some stats with the new system.

I gained some power but lost ~5% crit chance and ~%10 crit damage with my pve/wvw gear setup.

Rangers were already one of the worst class to bring to a wvw zerg fight and now they can’t even do the sole thing they were better than others at, which is picking off low hp or squishy targets.

Low single damage, extremely poor aoe damage, can’t fight as well as other front liners(no CC or support)… Rangers have just been made unplayable in wvw zerg.

I’m not sure I agree about unplayable in WvW / Zergs. Just my perspective after day two is that you better have some kitten good situation awareness. If not, roaming thief will wreck you before you can react.

That is my only complaint so far is that with the build I’m running now I have little time to react. It is probably me but I’m finding it very difficult to stay at range and pepper people. Even with the 1500 being default time and time again thieves are spring up randomly and basically insta gibbing me.

I’m not going to say there is a issue yet only after two days but playing the Ranger and also facing similar issues on my Guardian who is support, the patch has some flaws in it relating to speed, boons, conditions, and burns. Guardians are not helping any with a few of their bugs…and the players abusing them.

Yeah, I was at worst at 95% hp in Settler’s gear and a Thief downed me in less than 2s.

Didn’t see him … initial burst with Basilisk keeping me CC’d for that extra second to finish me off … my defensive cooldowns wereon CD from the guy I was about to stomp … but still … under 2s versus Settlers and I had Wilderness Survival and no less than 95% hp … crazy.

I don’t have any statistics to back me up but have been noticing in wvw that Rapid fire is much weaker than the patch changes would suggest. Playing with the same buffs and a build as close to my pre-patch full zerker build as possible, I am averaging 12K per rapid fire. Before, it was 15K with occasional 18-20K hits. Very disappointing considering the LB buff from several months ago actually gave rangers a useful role in zerg fights as snipers. Now they can’t even do that. Back to my necro, I guess.

my rapid fires in WvW could top at 28k when I went all out vs lords now it usually does about 18-20k in the same situations dont know exactly what happened but it lost a lot of dmg and some of that dmg was from opening strike
