Sharpen Stone, utility should effect the Pet .
Guess Anet decided to leave it off the pet when they improved Sharpened Edges and gave us Hidden Barbs. I’d like to see Sharpening Stone affect the Pet anyways. The same goes for Hidden Barbs.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

The point is that Spike Trap offers just as much bleeding, instantly.
No one’s gonna take Sharpened Edges for PvP. Not even for PvE (since Flame Trap + 2 spirits).
The cooldown on the ability is way too long for the utility to be considered.
Really? I read it and saw the point as a proposal for Sharpening Stone to also affect the pet.

If both you and your pet got the Sharpening Stone effect – the damage would go double beating Spike Trap in DPS.
Which I believe solves the problem and I support the idea.

Would it though? I guess that would depend on if the bleeds the pet applies goes off of your condi damage or the pets.

Ranger’s of course. Basically doubling the current damage.
I would fit it into Condi Survival builds for more Fury and Condi removal anytime.
But I don’t because… Spike Trap does a dozen more useful things and deals much more damage. And has the same cooldown. Plus pre-setting it is safe unlike risking to waste Sharpening Stone (shorter duration than cooldown).
To me quite frankly it feels dumb that you need to pay a utility skill just for some extra bleeds with no other side benefit.
A lot of ranger utilities should be completely retooled.
Compare it to Skale Venom or Spider Venom and you see how bad SS really is.
Each stone charge applying bleed to each foe hit for cleaving/aoe/piercing projectiles would take you further then giving pet 5 more bleeds.
Are you talking spvp or wvw zenos? Cause in wvw I would still take a torch over warhorn. Bonfire is ridiculous and torch throw isn’t shabby either.

I mean… yeah common sense says it should use the rangers condi damage…. but I’m using anet logic here. I could totally see them saying if the pets get 5 bleeds it would be based off of the 0 condi damage the pets have.

Yes but he is using companion’s might. While it won’t be huge condition dmg it won’t be zero.

that is correct with the right trait set up , Marksman or wilderness, nature , skirmishing
i can share might get the pet to 25 on a burst with RF+horn and add 350 condi to the pet through Expertise training making pet deal out 1050condi damage per crit = bleed and companions might maintains those might stacks between bleeds , but the whole reason for my thread was to point out that SS is weak for a utility that is tied to a GM to be viable without the Gm its worthless and unbalanced.
they way they have set up our trait lines are the pet+ranger are still seperate in terms of traits some are shared but to get the pet to deal any form of strong condi/stacks you need 2 or 3 traits all in different lines and this will not change thust the easy fix is adding pet bleeds to the SS so you can burst or quicky stack bleeds even if you you’re self do not have line of sight .
would be very useful to flush out targets from behind walls or reflect walls ect ect though again they gave us Pet synergy through traits while leaving the Core Utility/skills very reliant on traits and without the traits the Utility is weak / sub-par riddled with longcooldowns.
