Ranger Grand Master trait (XI) states, “Active effects of signets also affect you.” Does this mean when a signet is activated the ranger gets the same benefit as the pet?
Example:
Signet or Stone – Passive: Improves toughness for you and your pet. Active: Your pet takes no damage from attacks. If I take the master trait’s language that means I receive no damage either for 6 secs.
Signet of the Hunt – Active: Your pet’s next attack deals more damage. Does this mean my next attack will also do X% more damage?
I’ve never taken a hard look at signets until the recent patch so the above questions have me wondering. I cannot find anything that would lead me to believe the contrary.
If the verbiage is correct:
Sig of Stone – 6 seconds of no damage (64 sec traited)
Sig of Wild – 8 seconds of 25% more damage with stability (48 sec traited)
Sig of Hunt – next attack +50% damage (24 sec traited).
This does not sound like the ele’s trait to retain the “passive effect” of signets. That language is very specific and clear. The description for ranger has me wondering if speccing into the grand master trait might be something worth investigating.
Has anyone tested this or know if it is just a bad description? I’ll attempt to test when I get home if someone hasn’t already.

Yes. you get pass and active affects of signets when trait. I use those signets myself but they need to be buffed. Like for example sig of hunt is only for speed there is no good benefit to activate it so its complete kitten. Very disappointed on balance team and ranger profession
I won’t go so far as to say Signet of the Hunt is awesome, but it’s not useless – it’s good for bursting, and IIRC the buff doesn’t expire like Sic ’Em so you can load it up on your pet and it will still be active on their first strike even after the skill itself has recharged (so you can have them open with a powered strike from it, then pop it again for a second powered strike).

To clarify on this, the active effect of Signet of the Hunt is called Attack of Opportunity. Attack of Opportunity will boost the damage of your next attack and expires after 16 minutes if you don’t hit anything. The signet itself will recharge in 30 seconds. You can activate Attack of Opportunity on your way to the next fight (although you’ll lose the speed buff for 30 seconds until the signet recharges) and it will be active even if the signet fully recharges (for 15 minutes and 30 seconds).
It’s not amazing but it’s functional and the passive is useful for getting around while the active is when you don’t need to get around (because you’re fighting).
Yes, OP, you have the general jist of how Signet of the Beastmaster works.
