Where did you get this information from?
They actually were able to hire a dev that could manage ai that can hit moving targets? I believe it when i see it , last 10 months hasn’t given me much hope for their ability though.

And where did you get this information from? As it stands my ranger feels very weak even with the LB “buff” my bear and leaf hound are almost useless

Trying to be positive but I don’t really expect there will be any rangers left by July.
Even if we could find some odd combination of skills that would make the class viable, don’t most people take up ranger to have pets that actually work? Even without pets, our weapons got nerfed too. Personally, I no longer trust the powers that be, to not destroy whatever I work towards.

Sorry, I have 5 x lvl 80 chars, 1 lvl 21 necro and 1 open slot … there is just no chance that I’ll fill that slot with an ranger. I’ll go warrior with a non mainstream build insted …
Rangers pets will never be usefull until they make a good commandbar with movementcontrols for pets and / or a really good Pet-AI. Good luck waiting for a few years I’d say. I somehow can’t like the design of this class in this game … it ’s so unversatile.
Other chance I might make a Ranger is when there will be a build that discards pets overall. But I guess this will never happen. Oh well, I feel sorry for you thought, well even Necros Pets work better … soley because they have a bigger number of those stupid minions AND the ability to completely make a build withouth using them at all.

I actually did level a Ranger up to 80 as I had maxed all other classes. Surprisingly it ‘s not as bad as I thought. Yes, it ’s kinda stiff, ruff and many traits / utilities / mechanics feel like they’re in beta state (even when compared to Engineer) but it ’s still fun – at least sometimes.
There are certainly many new or lazy players tempting to play that class. Those are for example the guys AA with Longbow at meele-range while walking backwards especially in sPvP or going Akitten Dungeons with their AA on …
In the right hands, they can be a tad bit of kitten too.
To put it into one sentence:
I missjudged the class, I guess.

What if, and hear me out on this, Rangers are actually the pet? The pet of the Devs, the pets of the other classes.

I’ll stay on my ranger I use LB and pets only for CC (yes, and I don’t give a kitten about being UP – I play for fun, and I have fun with my build), so todays update was nearly pure buff for me.

The balance devs should be required to pug as a ranger through a random dungeon each day before they can do anything else in game. We might see some decent PvE patches after that.

No, they’d just nerf others
If this was true, then logically the pet nerf should have been excluded. At least until the attack on movement portion of the pet AI was ready.
Rangers get nerfed and thieves get a boost. I blame this all on John Sharp and his sPvP needs.
I blame the pet nerfs on the s/tpvp players who stood still while they let a pet bite them.
And OP, was the nerf necessary in PvE as well, considering Rangers were borderline useless beforehand? Are you happy that people would at best, reluctantly accept you in whatever group content you wish to play and at worst, insta-kick you when you show up with a weak class that’s only gotten weaker?
Pigs were clearly OP. So glad this patch barbecued them back down to size.
Perhaps now we won’t see so many PvP rangers with pigs. Everyone ran with a pig before this patch.

I’m looking through the notes and I don’t see where they switched the damage from the pet back over to the ranger. It appears that they just flat out nerfed all rangers that don’t use a longbow.
There was speculation that they were going to shift the damage over to the ranger from the pet. Apparently rangers were out dpsing every other class, in PvE, based on these nerfs. What happened to them separating PvE and PvP skill mechanics?

The pets nerf hit rangers in PvE hard. For the 10% of the fight that the pets are actually alive and dpsing the boss, they now do laughable DPS. Awesome.
Well guys the only reason I created this thread was as a satire to mock whoever it was on the dev team that felt Ranger pets needed a damage nerf while NOT addressing the poor hit chance against moving targets. Ironically, if pets could in fact use their basic attack while moving, then the damage nerf would have been appropriate.
Unfortunately, as it stands now, for the sake of some very bad PvP/WvW players that could not avoid pet damage, we now have a pet damage reduction.
