Well guys, this preview seemmed… /wipes tear amazing.
So for those who missed it, some goodies to come:
- Signet actives are now baseline for ranger as well
- Longbow auto damagefurther increased on AA
- Read the wind now increases attack speed as well
- Rapid fire cast time reduced
- Entangle cooldown reduced to 60 seconds
- Maul now hits 5 people
- Swoop now has evade before it hits
- Strider’s defence has now 20% block chance
- BM traits like rending barb or stability training are not linked to a family of pets
- New Grandmaster trait in MM, deal extra damage to targets with hindered movement (cripple, chill, immob)

-axe auto attack applies might for every enemy hit
-axe 4 is 25% faster
-the old signet mastery GM trait is replaced with (do +10% damage against foes with cripple / chill / immobilized)

Barrage cast time reduction.
Counter Attack cool down reduction
Greatsword AA dmg increase
The third hit in greatsword auto chain was increased by 17% damage.
Counter attack wasn’t a CD reduction, it was an aftercast reduction. So the knockback happens faster.
I think ricochet was 1 stack of might for 3s for each hit, where each ricochet can hit 1-3 times.
All 5 GS skills are buffed. Autoattack got a small damage increase, maul 5 targets, swoop evades, counterattack doesn’t have the massive root anymore, hilt bash had the stun and daze duration increased 50%.
Brown and polar bear roars are physical attacks.
For greatsword, Wider arc on maul, increased damage on the 3rd skill of the auto attack, reduced after cast on #4
-bear family f2’s now strike the enemy
-entangle duration also reduced w/ the reduced cooldown 60s cd, 5s duration

Finally the rangers get some proper lovin’
i must say that a lot of these changes are from the CDI.
Was something like this:
Read the wind: added faster attack speed (+10% for longbow, says other thread)
Strider’s defense: 20% projectile block
Signet: affects ranger untraited
Signet of the beastmaster: removed
New marksmanship grandmaster trait: +10% dmg for ranger, +5% for pet vs snared targets
Long range shot +17% dmg close range, +7% dmg mid-range
Rapid shot: halved activation time
Barrage 0.5s? shorter activation time
Power stab: more dmg
Maul: max 5 targets, increased range to 250?
Swoop: evade on the strike
Counterattack: less aftercast
Hilt bash: 1.5s daze/stun
Bear F2: added damage
Beastmaster master traits: work with all pets, not just select families
Ricochet: added 3s might per target
Entangle: 60s recharge, 5s duration
Oh man my signet immob ranger going to be so much nicer. Very nice changes.

For a long time I run an axe power build, and all this changes seems amazing.
I’m really glad that I was wrong about the news, I really hope that no serious hidden nerfs comes along those amazing buffs.
I know this is significant for PvP, but this feels so… meh. I wish balance wasn’t so PvP-centric, there’s so much untapped potential in most classes which more swooping changes or replacements of abilities (or just adding 6-12 abilities) could tap.
Instead we get these… tPvP-based things. So boring.
The one “hidden nerf” is that we’ll no long get to watch necros get slowly strangled to death over the course of 20 seconds by entangle. Oh well, if that’s the price we pay for getting these awesome buffs, I’m ok with it.
Carighan, the new GM trait will give PvE rangers a 10% damage boost, and the GS (mostly maul) has been buffed as well. I’m equally happy for competitive and PvE.

Yea, we need to see something done about AE damage in WvW for pets because they remain borderline useless there. Class also lacks group support both offensively and defensively. Change to rapid fire is nice, but it’s still quite hard to build for longbow without some traits being combined. Especially now that RtW will be absolutely mandatory as it’s effectively a 10% damage increase.

I’m curious about the axe buff, 3sec seems kind of short, could have fun looking putting together a might build with it tho. Regardless should be able to keep up 3 stacks fairly consistently…

From video it looked like each bounce gave one and it has a 1.0 attack speed so you’ll get it pretty high in a group setting. And since might increase condi too, it will be quite good now.

add runes of strength, might stacking sigil…..should stack up nicely with jungle stalker f5 and fire trap/horn 5

But, yeah, I get the ‘eh’ feeling. One the one hand this stuff is decidedly well thought-out, on the other hand it’s still so timidly surface level.

+ 10 % (+5 % pet) damage via the new GM trait for the 6/5/0/3/0 pve build + having the option to activate Signet of the Wild untraited for damage boost is pretty nice if you ask me.

It looks like the developers WERE reading the Ranger CDI after all… I seem to recall a lot of these buffs being suggested by players in that thread.

The Entangle change really surprised me. It synergies with Wilderness Knowledge and Survival of the Fittest, giving much better access to Condi Removal and soft CC. I really look forward to these changes.
Did some calculations on longbow damage increase. Conclusion: 27-38% more damage (massive buff!) using the first two skills:
before, over 15s
long: 317*10 * 1.075(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 4793.75
mid: 263*10 * 1.075(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 4213.25
short: 211*10 * 1.075(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 3654.25
after, over 14.9s (with RtW)
long: 317 * 14 * 1.06(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 6090.28
mid: 263 * 1.07 * 14 * 1.06(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 5562.1244
short: 211 * 1.17 * 14 * 1.06(vuln) + 1320 * 1.05(vuln) = 5049.5508
long: 6090.28/4793.75 = 1.270 times more damage
mid: 5562.1244/4213.25 = 1.320 times more damage
short: 5049.5508/3654.25 = 1.382 times more damage

I love how everyone thinks these are amazing changes to the ranger lol This is the best they can do in almost 2 years of the game being out when these changes were called for like a year ago? Comon guys ranger is still goin to be slaughtered in spvp this isnt anything to celebrate. Only zerg runners in WvW are getting anything to celebrate
Just wait till all the other class buffs come out and watch how ranger falls right back into its useless spot.

It’s also a 25% damage boost. It lists a 50% movement increase but I don’t think that actually happens to you when you currently activate with SotB (question?).
That skill is definitely going to be showing up on my bar a lot. Especially if the build can fit in signet mastery.
