Which Order did you join?
I chose Order of the Whispers mainly because I like the concept of what they do. Especially as a Beastmaster Ranger. It didn’t seem to make sense to align with soldiers or scientists. Also, the Whisper’s home base is pretty sweet.
I eventually plan to roll alts in other professions and plan to join each of the other two orders at least once.
I chose the Order of the Whispers, too. I did because I thought they fit my Ranger’s personality and whatnot. My roommate chose them too on his thief for a very similar reason.
My alts are in different orders though.
I chose Whispers. However when I played through the personal story weeks ago, there was one particular quest that was really tough. Saving the girl from the pirates. It might have been tuned down in all the patches though.
Sea of Sorrows
For me, my decisions are based on what my character would do. It’s up to you if you don’t RP, like I do, but I intend to make my ranger a whisperer, simply because I like ‘stealth’ and influencing nations from ‘behind a curtain’.
My ranger is not a head on fighter, nor does she give a fig about ‘some must fight so that all may survive’. She doesn’t care about science or technology, so she kinda fits in with the whisperers. Plus, the dude is kinda hunky.
I went with the Priory because I view my Ranger more as an Indiana Jones character. He’s not in it for the protection of the people or for the bigger picture, my Ranger’s an explorer who traverses the wilderness to search the lost knowledge of civilizations long buried by time.
Heh…this was/is a real annoyance for me.
I rolled my ranger after seeing a picture of a ranger in vigil armor dyed silver and black, and I thought he looked epic.
My thought was my ranger would be a scout for the vigil, traveling with his pet for extra protection while he scouted out enemy positions, reported to the main force, and then skirmished on the outskirts/flanks.
Of course I then accidentally chose Whispers which screwed up that whole plan…not to mention their medium armor is SO not ranger-ish. It’s definitely thief armor.
I chose the Vigil. As a Ranger, I like the idea of marching to the head of battle with a strategy. I’m ferocious and mustn’t tip-toe around the problem. Superior firepower gets the job done.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I joined vigil. Much more exciting.
“I went with the Priory because I view my Ranger more as an Indiana Jones character. He’s not in it for the protection of the people or for the bigger picture, my Ranger’s an explorer who traverses the wilderness to search the lost knowledge of civilizations long buried by time.”
That’s exactly what i did, also i had a warrior in the vigil and a thief in whispers.
But i kinda regret the decision, i disslike most if not all of the Priory characters, especially your mentor, and the armor is pretty meh.
Liked the Vigil alot more also their armor looks great, would’ve gone with them if i didn’t already have a character doing the story line.
Whispers here as well …
Fits more into my usual sneaky-type RPG play style.
Priory. I looked at my charm/dignity/ferocity and was a Barbarian or something by the time I got to the choice.
I decided to mend my ways an become a scholar instead.
So I spent 50 more levels being muscle for the eggheads.
I had no idea that the decision was irreversible, or that it lead to an armor set at the end because I just played the game. No “research” or anything so I had to guess and roleplay it.
Haven’t really looked at the armor sets much except for a quick peek. They all kind of look a bit like latex pirate costumes to me so I’m in no hurry to get any of them.
Should have rolled a warrior…
Whispers for story, having seen their armor though….

Didn’t particularly like the medium armours of any of the orders.
But I chose Whispers in the end.
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
Vigil, cause defending the weak is what Rangers do
Wen with the Priory for the Indiana Jones reason, shame the Priory medium armour is so awful though. Willing to buy Whispers armour for gems.
Whispers but I already did Vigil to 80 with my Guardian. My Ranger is 78 now and caught up on the story line I think over all I liked the Whisper storyline better and think it was a tad easier than Vigil story on some of the missions.
Tybalt ftw Shame...he died tho i almost cried , APPLEEES.
i wish i chose whispers just bc of the medium female armor XD oh well xD i like vigil and the concept of a noble head on fight tho my outfit looks like a ninja xD
The thing is I have a lvl 22 thief right now, and it’s either the vigil or whispers. The vigil has better weapons but I love the armor for the order of whispers
Apples! Get your apples, nothing else besides apples here!
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Order of Whisperers here too…
It seem’d a mystery, thus they’re a really old order – saw some of them in Vabbi before.
Did it worth it?
Their base is nice, but I like the Vigil Keep better. Forts, Casltes FTW!
Did they affect my story? Sure, but they didn’t offered what I’ve expected.
Become Agent, then Master… no, I’ve been out of any question.
Sadly, these orders did not gave me anything special yet.
Meaningless.

I also picked OoW because I’m a GW1 player and who wouldn’t join that ancient demon hunter spy order?
Besides, I have different toons in other orders:
Norn Ranger – Whispers
Norn Mesmer – Vigil
Asura Eng – Priory
Asura Thief – Whispers
Human Necro – Whispers
Charr Warrior – Priory
Sylvari Guardian – Vigil
Sylvari Ele – Vigil
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
First Vigil, next Priory, the last 2 were Whispers – 4 Rangers all 80. Went with Whispers the second time to play w/my dd. Vigil has been my favorite thus far since I’m more of a jump into the middle of it type of player. Plus Forgal kind of reminds me of my departed father, gruff, tough with a heart of gold.
I was already a member of Ash Legion before entering the Order of Whispers. It makes sense to continue doing what you love and are best at.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Rhino.3257, you should play a necromancer because this topic is a year old.
(I picked Priory. Seemed more adventurous.)
IMO Whispers is the one order where rangers don’t really fit in. I went with Priory, they even have a rank which seems to be mostly occupied with ranger NPC’s – Explorer. Vigil would be also a good choice.

Whispers fit IMO. Rangers are scouts, with keen eyes so they can see afar, and a pet which they could probably attach something small to in order to check enemy locations and whatnot. They’d work well in any order, since Whispers can use them as spies, Vigil can use them as scouts to get a location of the enemies, and Priory can use them to help find rare animals, plants, etc to keep safe or examine for new knowledge into the world.

WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I picked Priory because not only does their philosophy on combat (avoid front lines let someone, of someTHING else do that job), but also because of their idea for stopping the dragons (use knowledge of the past and artifacts), as well as the fact that I’m an explorer at heart and mapping things and exploring every nook and cranny is something the priory do, I felt it was the only logical choice.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Whispers.
At the time of choosing (Norn Ranger) how to deal with the sonic-dragon-scream-machine of doom. three plans were given.
1- Fight it head on!
— Okay, but there will always be more endless fodder to fight….
2- We can silence the machine, making it useless!
—You havent actually stopped the problem at all. only delayed or redirected it.
3- Kill the guy in charge!
— BINGO! Problem solved.
It made for an easy choice. Plus, the scholar guy is abit of an arrogant prick.
My Norn Ranger chose the Priory, for RP reasons. She’s always been a bit of a loner (a bit of a traumatic past), and the thought of having a job where she could travel to distant, unexplored lands, far away from other people, really appealed to her.
I chose Priory because it was supposed to be about discovering new places and old artifacts. Quite frankly now I think the Priory route is the least interesting one in terms of quests and the best in concept.
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.
My Charr Ranger went Priory, though that decision had very little to do with profession at all. He chose Priory because he has a fondness for the exploration of caves and ruins (and the jumping associated with them), as well as being a rather rational thinker who wants to understand situations as much as possible in order to use that knowledge to his advantage.
Bonus points for being the only Order medium armor that doesn’t tail-clip as well, though I honestly didn’t even consider that when I first picked Priory (my Ranger was my first character so at that point I didn’t really know much about the clipping issues or even about the Order-specific armor and weapons), it was just a pleasant surprise to find later on.
Order of Whisper here as well. Seemed to make more sense for my Ranger.
