Splitblade: Reduced the aftercast on this skill from .4 seconds to .2 seconds.
Path of Scars: Now pulls enemies on the return flight.
Long Range Shot: Reduced the aftercast on this skill from .5 seconds to .25 seconds. Increased arrow speed by 15%
Rapid Fire: Reduced initial cast time by .4 seconds. Increased arrow speed by 15%
Point Blank Shot: Increased arrow speed by 15%
Barrage: Increased cripple duration by 50%.
Muddy Terrain: Decreased the duration from 20s->10s. Increased cripple duration per pulse from 1s->2s. Decreased the cooldown from 30s->25s.
Lightning reflexes: travel distance has been halved underwater.
Man o war: 18 base recharge to 25
Counterstrike: 15 base recharge to 20
Swirling strike: .6 to .8
Crossfire: Range decreased to 900.
Poison Volley: Range decreased to 900
Quick Shot: Range decreased to 900. Damage increased by 14%.
Crippling Shot: Range decreased to 900. Damage increased by 14%.
Concussion shot: Range decreased to 900. Damage increased by 14%. Reduced the aftercast by .25 seconds.
Spirit activated skill range increased from 180 to 240 (360 when traited)
Call Lightning: Increased damage by 150%.
Solar Flare: Decreased the cast time from 1.7s to .5s.
Winter’s Bite: Reduced weakness duration to 3 seconds. Fixed a bug so that it now chills for the 3s (as listed in the tooltip) instead of 2s.
Enfeebling Roar: Reduced weakness duration to 8 seconds.

Bird: Slash: Increased damage by 15%.

Vigorous Spirits: This trait has been merged with Spiritual Knowledge.
Spiritual Knowledge: This trait has been moved to the Adept tier.
Evasive Purity: This trait has been moved to the Master tier.
New Grandmaster trait – Nature’s Voice: Shouts apply 10 seconds of regeneration and swiftness to allies in a 360 radius.

Longbow’s a lot better, Shortbow’s worse (though still better when in range). Support Rangers got a few nice buffs.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

The reason I believe these notes are legit is because they include several small fixes to problems most people weren’t even aware of. For example, outside the ranger community, who even realized that lightning reflexes had absurd range underwater? I imagine not many rangers even knew that the armor fish dealt a surprising amount of damage compared to a supposed “dps” pet like the shark. Some of these changes are very obscure yet reasonable.

Longbow’s not a lot better. The issue with it is it’s got no defense whatsoever and people can easily get in your face, gutting the damage. Firing a half damage projectile faster won’t fix anything. Rapidfire will still do terrible damage.

Ranger shout regen/swiftness is amazing. Every 15 seconds along with a pet invisibility on “guard”, an aoe stun break on “protect me”, etc etc.

Also, rapid fire isn’t getting 50% damage reduction. Not sure where you’re looking Zenith. I might be missing something, but I’ve looked it over like 5 times.

Who said 50% reduction? I said the skill will still do less damage than longbow auto at range. Its damage is still terrible for a 5 sec channel.

And you think 10 sec regen on useless shouts will help my team? Newsflash, guardians already give their groups swiftness, regen, 25 stacks of might, stability, retal, AND protection with shouts.

Regen and swiftness are about the worst boons in team fights. Protection and fury and stability are much better.

Spirits still die in a sneeze, are a 60 sec cd, with no mobility. Good luck using them.

Yeah, I had a few people really angry at me for leaving last second. I got off work early for it, was online for the party invite, and literally the moment I said hi to everyone, I got a text telling me to cover for the guy who was supposed to show up after me.

I’m two for two now on the SOAC tourneys, and not in a good way. Probably won’t register for them again until I’m done with this job since it has become so unreliable ;(

As for working on making pets dangerous, I’m looking forward to some of the unconventional hybrid builds people will come out with aside from the x/x/x/x/30. Assuming that these patch notes are legit.

Does it take into consideration your boon duration though? (I’m assuming it does).

If so, you can provide 100% uptime regen and swiftness for the entire team, which even without healing power, really helps a group of people (some regen is better than none, etc).

That’s huge, and with our Elite Spirit as well as access to the best water field in the game, rangers just became (assuming the list is accurate) one of the best utility healers in the game (similar to ritualists in guild wars 1).

Every kitten class with this patch got stronger with the exception of the elementalist. We got nerfs to our most viable weapons and sources of damage, while receiving no meaningful compensation. The alternatives are still garbage.

Great, now you’ll need more than 20 points into Nature Magic for your shouts to have some sort of use, as if you weren’t using signet of the hunt or weren’t running Dwayna runes or healing spring. Regen and swiftness from shouts is JUST what we needed.

And protect me is a terrible shout considering it gives you protection at the cost of halving your damage.

Ahhh, who am I kidding? Anet has already proven not to care about Ranger damage all the way back in GW1.

Ranger was one of the best utility classes in the game in guild wars 1, being a major component of almost every single tournament composition due to the classes high avoidability through stances and capabilities of interrupting and disabling both offensive and defensive skills on the enemy team, which was imperative for both offense and defense on your team. A well timed interrupt could literally change the entire outcome of a game (hitting a Monks WoH for instance).

Unfortunately, guild wars 2 took out a lot of the utility mechanics that made guild wars 1 so great and opted for a more damage/mitigation gameplay, and the ranger hasn’t made the best of the transitions at this point in time yet.

It took about 2 years for the ranger to reach it’s full potential and be recognized for it in the first guild wars. Which sounds more bleak than positive, but still.

I hope for some undocumented changes, like:
- the family restriction removed from the master pet traits,
- the flanking restriction removed from the shortbow,
- the out-of-range pet restriction removed from the Signet of Renewal,
- the living pet restriction removed from the Signet of Renewal.
- the out-of-range pet restriction removed from Protect Me,
- Search & Rescue not going on cooldown when it’s not used,
- Search & Rescue causing the pet to instantly blink to the target,
- Pets gaining an evade on ranger dodge.
- Pets becoming immune to AoE damage in dungeons and fractals.
- Melee pets being able to attack the Elemental boss in the snow fractal.

That is one of the things that intrigues me about Anet and GW2. So many things are only discovered after digging deeper and doing testing.

It looks like they have done what many have suggested. Reduce pet damage and increase Ranger damage. At first glance though it appears the Pet damage reduction is greater than the increase in Ranger damage.

lol Im so glad after I made my ranger as my 1st toon, I decided to make a guardian and mesmer later, now my ranger is just for resource farming and guild missions…I really dont see the point to put my ranger into WvW instead of my guardian/mesmer… Barrage: Increased cripple duration by 50% is nice, this prob the only useful buff we got,auto attack and rapid fire still gonna be miss obstructed and out of range with no reason doesnt matter how much you improve the speed of arrow…but before they increase the damage on Barrage I dont see a point putting that on to a zerg full of retaliations…

Longbow is a terrible weapon and needs a complete overhaul, not some 15% projectile travel time increase. Again, back to my Mesmer that just 1,2,3,4,5 weapon swap, 1,2,3,4,5 most classes. Throw in a dodge or two and insta win.

Looking at the other stuff, longbow is getting some decent buffs (double cripple duration is no joke), the spirit tree is getting an overhaul (much needed, in a good way), and we will finally have a viable group build. Ranger shout regen/swiftness is amazing. Every 15 seconds along with a pet invisibility on “guard”, an aoe stun break on “protect me”, etc etc.

Also, rapid fire isn’t getting 50% damage reduction. Not sure where you’re looking Zenith. I might be missing something, but I’ve looked it over like 5 times.

take these:
1.Stability Training:This trait now causes the pet to ignore the incoming crowd control skill as well as granting stability. This has a 10 second internal recharge.
2.Beastmasters Might: This trait now grants 3 stacks of might for 15 seconds.
3.Companion’s Might: This trait now grants 5 seconds of might to your pet, up from 1 second.
4.Fortifying Bond
5.Rampage as One

Yeah, I had a few people really angry at me for leaving last second. I got off work early for it, was online for the party invite, and literally the moment I said hi to everyone, I got a text telling me to cover for the guy who was supposed to show up after me.

I’m two for two now on the SOAC tourneys, and not in a good way. Probably won’t register for them again until I’m done with this job since it has become so unreliable ;(

As for working on making pets dangerous, I’m looking forward to some of the unconventional hybrid builds people will come out with aside from the x/x/x/x/30. Assuming that these patch notes are legit.

All this is doing is making my build better. Soldier armor and runes 20/0/30/20/0, Spirits, Bird and devourer, GS/LB. This will just make my spirits and longbow better.

It is. If they were looking to give more build diversity, they’ll get it. I’m not gonna put 5 in BM for quickness on down for a pet with low dps They made DD505 less effective without the quickness. (not that it was required, but it was a really nice boost) Looks like we get to explore with that last 5 points now.

Assuming they’re correct:
The Axe OH sounds amazing and makes me even more depressed neither of our mainhands allow the type of freedom typical weapons do. On top of that as super thankful for any Longbow buff I can get I feel a lot of major core issues with the Ranger were not addressed at all. I love the class as always I just feel rather let down to be perfectly honest. I see a lot of really interesting changes to a lot of classes and you can sum ours up with:

Almost all Pets Nerfd
All Shortbow skills nerfd
Longbow buff (Although to what actual useful degree we’ll see)
Path of Scars buff

Where as I agree that the Shortbow should’ve been 900 range from the beginning and the pet nerf was probably warranted I don’t feel like we got all we should have out of this update at all. No super meaningful trait changes, only one awesome skill change, an entire weapon and class mechanic nerfed…personally almost completely disappointed despite the fact my favorite weapon got a buff. For a class that had one popular viable build in PvP and not really any meaningful group builds in WvW I don’t see much of any diversity coming from this.

Still no long-range support options.
Still no unique or useful party roles.

I want to love my class but I find myself loving it for one or two things and feeling completely mediocre if not useless about the rest.

I use swap axe/axe for longbow depending on what I feel like using as my secondary weapon set (greatsword being primary), and I have to say that I’m kitten excited for both buffs if they’re true! Path of Scars already high damage and now a pull + Maul = tons of damage for me! =D

Also, a majority of the people I personally encounter while on my Ranger are running heavy Def based builds because group play is very stressed and to be perfectly honest it drastically reduces the effectiveness of Rapidfire due to how the skill works and therefore the entire weapon. It’s rather depressing.

I’m 200% sure that every channeled attack in this game, including rapid fire, has an additive, and not exponential, property. Meaning yes, it is the sum being displayed, but the actual damage can be seen in the battle log.

I don’t know about gods, but we were indispensable CC/pressure units in most every balanced team.

The only real reason we ever got nerfs in pvp was because the devs got all kitten y over people succeeding with Ranger spike.

Birds were used mostly for their bursty F2 skills (it can go up to a total of 4k-5k on full BM without other buffs), and not for their auto attack. Although, Bird auto was more reliable than the other pets because it hits twice and can go up to 3k if both hits crit. It might actually be an overall buff for birds.

Spiders are really bad direct damage dealers, I don’t think adding 10% to its auto is enough to change it. That said, I’d still use them regardless. An innate immobilize and poison field every 20 seconds are still really good skills.

@SB I agree :P

Personally, I’m more stoked about this change:

  • Keen Edge: This trait now activates when you strike a target that is below 50% health, instead of when your health reaches 75%.

Can you imagine getting additional bleeds for dropping someone to half hp ? O_O I’m just curious if it has an internal cooldown and how it interacts with Barrage.

if this notes are real i wont ever log in again, this is a joke for wvw players, buffing thieves while ignoring warriors and engis plus wrecking rangers…. this changes, if they come to life, are a nightmare!
