1. Rework and improve Longbow, and the direct damage of Traps and Harpoon Gun so that a power/crit build is actually viable. If I choose to go LB and Traps with power/crit, my ability to kill a group of trash MOBs should not be cut in half compared to Axe/Torch and Traps with condi build! Similarly, if I’m underwater and using Harpoon Gun for range, my total overall damage as a power/crit build should not be substantially less than a condi build. In other words, I should not be forced to melee range (and melee weapons) for half-effective damage output with a power/crit build.
2. Improve pet AI to make them at least a little smarter and better trained, allow them to actually hit a moving target a reasonable amount of the time without requiring them to have a significant speed advantage over the target, and give pets some means to survive massive AoE, such as the ability to dodge, or flat AoE damage mitigation, and/or an AI ability to recognize (quickly) that they are in a danger zone, find the shortest route out of that danger, and act to leave the danger.
3. The ability to have at least partial control over the cosmetic appearance of pets, as well as over their overall stat balance. If I want a feline that has good survivability, at a cost of weaker damage output, I should be able to get that, at least in PvE and Dungeons (in sPvP, tPvP, and WvWvW I understand the need for players to be able to tell the basic abilities of a pet based on its appearance, but in PvE and Dungeons it is purely cosmetic, and I want more control). One way to possibly achieve this would be to implement a pet evolution system along similar lines to what was available in GW1.
Really ranger is missing so much with the pets and with new leash laws make them even less fun.
1. Give pets there own level up system to make them worthy opponents(this would make many work hard to make all there pets stronger), including swap-able skill sets earned as they level.
2. More then F1-F4, Id like at least F1-F8 utilized(Some easy to add extra skills could be Fetch-picks up items or loot, Stay-much like the guard skill but no stat boost, Heal-revive other players or NPC… make em more useful).
3. I use LB/SB but i don’t even really want the legendary’s because they do not look very good compared to almost any other. I’d rather have the arachnophobia over the dreamer for looks but it has no cool effects. And i’m still trying to find a longbow i don’t completely hate… Better legendary Bows Designs Please!

This, right here. Currently staging a silent protest in game by opting to use the SB, and not purposely swapping to reach a target. So basically I’m playing exactly as before, I just can’t hit some targets (ice walls and far pillers on Jormag). I do swap when I want my AoE and knock back.

100 qq topics make anet not care much :/You can write all the ideas you like, and there are many threads in these forums the do just that, but until ANet gives a kitten you have to realise that is is just pointless theory craft because nothing is going to happen and you are wearing your keyboard down for no purpose.

Gotta agree here. I see a new theory craft almost everyday, and some of them are really great, but they all fall down the same sad realization that A-Net is going to ignore them and someone’s wasted a great deal of their time and energy typing them up. There was this great thread a while back by a guy about converting pets to spirits with all these cool attacks and all that, and it would have worked really well, I really wish a dev had at least commented on it

This has been an interesting thread – in that there have been a number of interesting suggestions made by a number of rangers. There has also been a lot of (understandable) negativity about the effort. But bear this in mind:
The devs do read these threads .. they’d be crazy not to. I’m head of development in a consumer product company and no matter how convinced I am that the product we sell is perfect just as it is, I will always read what our customers have to say about it. Why? Because, like any good ‘daddy’ I want to know how my ‘child’ is doing! If I get a lot of criticism, it will hurt my feelings and I may withdraw into my shell – but – it’ll make me think.
I also get those moments where I think"Hey! Wow! That could work!" I may not be able to do anything about it straight away – but it will get into my TODO list – and when I get a chance, it’ll float.
The point I’m trying to make here is that none of these ideas are wasted! Even the crazy ideas, the wishful thinking ideas may trigger off a sequence of ideas with the developers that will give us something awesome someday.
I don’t for one second believe that the devs hate us Rangers (they may hate our whining – but hell – there are times I wish we didn’t have customers! [joke, dear Customers who are our Gods!]). I honestly believe that they just haven’t got their heads around what we are yet. So we go on letting them know what we are or aspire to be – and hope that eventually inspires them.
So – in an effort to do just that .. here are my 3:
I’d love to see a charge shot on longbow, instead of rapidfire. Make shortbow the pew pew, give longbow the “thunk” factor
There’s a lot of other crap, but I prefer to focus on what the devs already know (I think Jon said in an SotG that Longbow still needs love).
1. Trait for improved Longbow range should be for both Longbow and Shortbow (Longbow goes to 1500, Shortbow goes to 1200)
2. 10 pt BM trait added. Stowing pet will provide some bonus DEPENDING on the pet stowed. You can now LOCK your pet as stowed so fighting doesn’t bring him out. You may only stow or unstow out of combat.
2A. Example: +10% damage birds, +200 toughness bears/pigs, +200 condition dmg – cats, +5% damage +100 toughness – canine.
