Step 1: Pop an Instant-20 Birthday scroll to get past all of the most intolerable parts of the NPE rubbish.

Step 2: Level normally until bored.

Step 3: Level Tomes.

This is probably what I will do. I was considering leveling normally, but after doing that with 10 toons, I’m done.

I hate the beginning levels, so popping the 20 scroll. Plenty of time to get familiar with the class between 20 and 30. Then if I am bored leveling, tomes to the end.

Lesse, I have six of those instant-level-20 scrolls, 260 tomes of knowledge, 5 tomes of mentorship, and 500 skill scrolls.

Gonna be 80 the moment I reach a bank.

People who speed level aren’t going to have as good a grip on the class, and especially not as good a grip on the more unusual skills.

That’s only true if you’re comparing a “natural” level 80 and a speed-leveled 80 while assuming they reached 80 at the same time; in this case if you spend 40 hours (completely arbitrary number here) leveling your Revenant to 80, I would have spent 40 hours playing with a level 80 Revenant with all of its traits and skills unlocked, so I would actually have a better grasp of the class than you would.

I disagree that you need to lvl slowly to learn class mechanics. Maybe some people do, but so much time is spent in the game at lvl 80 that it just doesn’t make sense to me to indulge in the NPE. The NPE is so bad and completely unnecessary so I will be skipping as much as I can. I have younger children playing the game that chafe at the NPE. Tell me again why they can’t learn skills until lvl 20?? All the feat points until lvl 80??

Most likely will be eating a lvl 20 scroll and tomes and taking the rev straight into EotM to lvl or the new WvW stuff.

i’ll use one of my thousands of lv20 scrolls that refuse to stack, then whatever leftover tomes i have, and then go from there.

I have the tomes to do it, but going to use them on my “grandfathered” guardian. The trait acquisition is just so much effort, I don’t see wasting good tomes that I earned in pvp on a character that still has to gather all those traits anyway. I will be scrolling to 20 because I’m fully mentally capable, can read and thus do not feel like being treated otherwise by the slow paced low level unlocks.

If they bring back the natural unlocking, I might reconsider because used to really love doing that =P

I’ll be one to speed level it, the npe is a pain in the backside, and being able to finish what ever trials I need for the traits quickly. Something I noticed in the first page, is that people think by speed leveling you won’t get a grip of the class. This game isn’t difficult at all, playing it boils down to reading all the traits, reading your skills and getting used to said skills, and then forming your build with what you’ve done. So, no, speed leveling shouldn’t cause anyone issue with learning the class.

I’m just hoping that the amount of insta-80 revenants doesn’t cause bad rep through inexperience with the class for dungeons/pvp/wvw.

As it stands for me, I’m going for mapping the starter zone to level 10, then bday scroll to 20, use every wep combination for 2-3 levels while mapping, at the end of every map I will tome to the nearest 5, e.g. if I am level 32, I will tome to 35, or if I am 36, I will tome to 40. Settle on 2 different weapon combinations at 60 (condi/zerk for example) and level to 80.

Though I will be sinking all my skill scrolls into the Revenant, cba with the trait scavenger hunt.

I’m looking forward to the Revenant party as 100s of us descend on the starter zones! All Revenant runs of dungeons and world events, etc.

This and the fact that I’ve done the npe with one toon to 80 and did not like it at all. I’ll be going instant 80 w/o question.

I’ll wait and see what they do before I decide. I’d love it if they “fixed” the “fixes” they put in for the NPE: as in the mangled personal story, improve Trait acquisition and restore the Trait point distribution (one point every 5 levels starting at level 15 please so I can get a better feel for the profession earlier on) for this expansion. So I’ll try it when the expansion releases but if they make a bad job of it this time (especially the Trait revamp) I’ll skip to the end.

I have a bunch of scrolls and tomes stored up already and I have nine level 80s, including two guards, one under the NPE but thankfully created before the NPE was shipped so I had the Traits unlocked already so I’ve also “done my time” when it comes to levelling the traditional way.

Personaly, I do not enjoy leveling, so I will be using as many tomes as I can to skip as many levels as I can.

I like doing the story, I just hate levels. GW2 is not especially bad for leveling, I just hate levels in all games. I think they are an unnecessary and dull way of adding progression. The progression they are adding in HoT sounds, as far as I can tell, like the sort of progression I would prefer. A more interesting, more organic, more entertaining and more cherished form of progression.

So yeah, I will skip the numbers as much as possible so I can get on with the adventures.

Simplicity is complex.

On my first\main it was fun cause it was the very first and untainted way…as for any other char i made it was tainted..and with the NPE now its beyond saving….so my with tomes, level scrolls and writs of experience exploding bank will save the day. Same for traits.. ill buy em cause im not mental enough to earn them either.

Slow leveling is best for those learning the game. There is no real reason for veteran players to spend several levels learning the details of autoattack and not having even one utility skill till level 13. Imo, a veteran player will learn better with access to all skills to try out and learn.

Level 80 straight away as long as they don’t stop you using tomes.
Those people saying we wont be as well versed in the class as those that do it the traditional way obviously haven’t leveled a character in a while. Your skills/traits are severely limited as you level up, you wont be learning anything as you play with no traits and basic skills. The rest of us who hit 80 a.s.a.p will already be testing out skills/traits/utilities while you’re spamming 1 and 2!
Recently leveled a second ele and it was seriously tedious not having access to anything at all!

- If you got a fully unlocked skillset you can easier see how skills work together

- At lvl 80 you got your char on full potential and can judge better what armor stats
and weapon stats\sets you wanna use

- The traitlines are fully available (minus the traits… but those can be bought)
so to experiment with a build that works for you is a lot easier

- To put a char into an lvl 80 area where you feel comfortable to experiment and work
on a build ensures that the build is most likely gonna work for you in the long run
rather then doing field tests in a low level area where most stuff falls over dead
alone with your presence. (I personally suggest arah story mode for said field tests.
You got your peace and the enemies and champs who protect the airship parts are quite capable to kill you if you dont know what you do with a new class…so perfect place for training. imo of course)

So yea.. i see no downside in starting off at lvl 80. To push some buttons and knowing the general concept of how you do guild wars2 in guild wars2 you should have already taken in…especially if you even got enough tomes to level a char straight to 80 and\or have several alts. Imo of course

Instant 80. After 13 or so level 80s of different builds and playstyles, I don’t imagine it would take me more than an hour or two to get the hang of this new class and have a playable build ready.

The problem with leveling the slow way, in my opinion, is that playing prelevel 80 is vastly different than playing a fully specced level 80 character and I’d like to avoid any nasty habits I might pick up by going slowly.
