I feel like the rev should be able to use the greatsword. Every other heavy armor class can and it doesn’t make much sense that the rev can’t. It would look so awesome to see my rev running around with a greatsword.
Somewhere in my mind I am still hoping Anet would realize that revenant is still very rough, incomplete class and start fixing it’s bugs with introducing a couple more weapons for it. Meh….I’d sign a petition for at least GS revenant if there was any :X

yeah, rev needs more help than another weapon but i guess another weapon couldn’t hurt.

I really wish they would. Then I could have my bolt, ghastly shield and twilight on my revenant. That would be a beautiful sight, but I still kind of doubt that the GS would be good enough for me to replace Hammer with anyway lol.

Yeah, Hammer is good but so clunky!
Generaly slow weapon and #3 can’t hit targets high above you (like player on top of walls).
Skill #3 annoyed me as a blast finisher when trying to blast my own lightning field to get Swiftness. You actually stop and jump in-place, something that takes 0.75sec, and resume running. Its a shame cause it has low CD but its has nowhere near the functionality mace #3 as blaster finisher.

Yeah, I’d just like more weapon choices and variety for revenant. There are two classes could be compared to revenant when it comes to weapons – elementalists and engineers but if eles got attunements and engis got kits with wide variety of utility skills they can swap any time whenever they desire, revenant has only got two legends and an energy management on the top of that.
I keep seeing people complaining that revenant is kinda restricted class and it’s hard to make something unusual out of it since it doesn’t give much material and I can kinda relate to that.

Most classes have some sort of weapon choice that gives them the ability to fight outside of their “usual” range. Arena.Net made Revenant look like an exclusively melee class because they gave him only a single weapon that has solely ranged attacks (hammer). The choice of weapon and its utility is something that the devs can decide almost freely. For example Mesmer GS is ranged, like Hammer for Rev.
Although another weapon choice would be nice, there are so many issues with existing weapons alone that it would be reasonable that they look into these first. Sword #3 not taking weapon dmg into consideration and hitting random objects, Sword #5 is far too easy to fail to connect, Shield #5 healing is too low for the disadvantages the skill has (root), Hammer is overall too slow and some ranged attacks fail to hit target above your level (like tower walls), Staff #5 is rather hard to control the exact direction your character will follow (unlike Warr GS #3 or Ranger GS #3 for example) are some of the issue existing weapons have.
Still, in the end, the question remains the same. You want more weapon choices before the whole profession gets the much needed fixes/reworks? Personally, I wish for the reverse.

2/3 Heavy classes use one. It doesn’t mean that a Revenant also has to have that particular weapon as well.

Only because of a lack of ranged weapons, which is a common complaint.
Our only option is hammer in that regard, when most classes have more than one mid/long ranged weapon. I dont see why Greatsword’s needed, but I can understand why there would be interest in a secondary ranged weapon – especially if its condition oriented.

Warrior is a melee class but has a really solid ranged option (longbow) and a lesser viable one (rifle).
Guardian was a melee class with a ranged option with scepter and his specialization made DH ranged with longbow.
Thief is a melee class that has 2 ranged option (pistol and shortbow)
So mostly of the classes that are melee has at least 2 ranged option.
Revenant has only One. And IMO is not even that good.
So why can’t I ask for a shortbow while you cam ask for a GS?

By looking at the current WvW situation I’d dare to suggest thief would get rifle for their next elite spec xD I still like to dream on rifle revenant though…or pistol gunslinger perhaps?

When rev finally able to use GS, it will probably be an elite spec, and no more shield for you. I hope to see mainhand axe for Rev more…

I’d like a scepter along with a Flame Legion-ish legend…maybe Hierophant Burntsoul? Or should we go something more heroic, and take Pyre Fierceshot and a bow?
On another note, if we get a greatsword, I want Kalla Scorchrazor as the legend. Or Gwen Thackery. I miss you little Gwen. T_T

In regards to a ranged option – yes it is probably more needed. But for example Guardian had a ranged power weapon before HoT, yet their elite spec introduce another power ranged weapon that works different. So it’s entirely possible to get GS as more AoE power melee weapon ( we only have 1powe/1condi MH). But if we do get a ranged weapon I really hope that it’s far faster than hammer , and gives the option for players to alternate between power/condi perhaps via trait. With all of this being said – please stick to Longbow or Shortbow. REVENANTS ARE NOT RITUALISTS – stop trying to make it happen , Scepter does NOT belong on a melee powerhouse that is Rev and would look AWEFULL.

You litteraly contradict yourself . Rev needs another mainhand power weapon – and guess what GS as a 2hander fits both MH and OH skills , thus making it a perfect fit for that role .

I dont see how that helps toward asking for a GS when there are still less utilized options that could be requested as either MHs or OHs. My point was that there were already enough GS users across armor types (2 heavy, 1 medium, 2 light), so why ask for something additional that’s already fairly widely available?
Another GS as a range weapon for the rev? No thank you. Short-bow and Rifle should get top Priority if the rev is going to get a new ranged weapon, and I also like that the rev is unique in regards to it not using a GS.
Personally, I would want the rev to have either Short-bow or axe main-hand as its pwr and/or condi range weapon.

While I’d love for Anet to surprise us with one for core Revenant, it’ll likely be another Espec. Most likely because they’ll feel it to be too jarring to the meta to suddenly have a new weapon appear for one particular profession after all this time without others “getting their fair share”.

I just find the opposition to GS funny when it’s not the most widely available weapon. I see some people hear GS and immediately think “no” just because they don’t like the weapon. Or another reason is that “it’s the most used weapon,” when it actually isn’t. Their reasoning has nothing to do with what’s already being used or not used and has more to do with personal bias.
That being said, I personally hate rifles and pistols in a fantasy setting game, so my personal bias would be against using either of those two.

It does not even have to be a full condi weapon. It can be a hybrid like the warrior’s Long-bow.

Oh man, then I must be using must be using them wrong because warrior Lb, and thief Sb,IMO, are some of the better designed ranged weapons in the game. Yes there are some bad hybrid weapons, but is that better than having no option at all and being stuck with one range weapon?

Does it need to be tied to a legend though? If they did add this new weapon to the core Rev my vote would be to tie to the Rev’s Invocation(if that makes sense), or not tie it to a legend at all. It does make sense that it would be tied an Elite Spec, but I think that is a bunch of kitten to hide something that all classes already have behind another Xpac. (Assuming that is when we will get the new elite specs)

Rev’s hammer was a gorgeous AoE weapon for WvW until Anet patches nerfed it to irrelevance, making it useless in every other game mode.
I would chose a good single target ranged condi or hybrid weapon over any other kind of weapon for Rev, specially taking in consideration that the new specilization will prevent us from use Glint, so you can bet that the next spec will be crap at PvE, anyway.
