2/10, topic is old and you’re not even trying. Tips: include more rage, don’t forget to complain about stealth in tpvp, and add a story about how you were about to win a 1v1 against that nasty dolyak when a thief entered the fight, wich is unfair as www is about 1v1.

This ability needs a longer cooldown: Rapid Fire. It’s ridiculous and downright broken how a ranger presses 1 button and does 7-9K rapid fires even after I immediately stealth when I see him start it.

This should also be applied to all pet F2s like the carrion spider and the juvenile wolf, as well as Greatsword #2. Also, I think pets should have their damage nerfed to 1/20th of its current state. It’s too overpowered.

you just said you’re a ranger too, how do you think the thieves feel about you dealing just as much damage as backstab but from 1500 distance every 8 seconds…
also i’m not sure if you’re in Spvp or not, but for a thief to hit 9k they’d need to spec specifically for backstab (read squishy) and pop cooldowns (read signets), be in melee range(read very likely to die), behind the target and in stealth.
for a ranger to deal 9k they only need a zerker/assassin amulet, a half decent spec and to click #2 from afar.
tl;dr backstab is fine.
I once sneaked on a Ranger and I said “Boo!” next to his ear.
He QQ’d and said that sneak attack is OP that the Thief should not have the power to cause a heart attack.

Great. Someone else whining about how we need yet ANOTHER nerf. As if we weren’t struggling to keep up with other burst classes already…
I also find it ironic that a ranger is the one complaining, given the recent buff your class received. I don’t see how someone who can crack off 7-9k damage at 1500 range even after we activate stealth has any right to be criticizing anyone, especially thieves (As we simultaneously received a major stealth nerf when Anet implemented that “brilliant” idea). Backstab doesn’t need a cooldown. The revealed status prevents us from using it with reckless abandon and while it isn’t that long of a wait, we are one of the squishiest classes in the game and backstab requires that we be in melee distance. Hurting us shouldn’t be that difficult.

There’s already a great solution for you OP. It’s called “Sick’em”, which gives you the ability to give cooldown to a thief and keep him visible at the same time, isn’t it great?

I’m getting pwned by Thiefs too, and what? I’m glassy, they are counter to glassy builds, I accept that as a disadvantage of my build, the price for the damage I can deal.

I killed him with a condi burst though – just happened to have D/D out at the time.

Backstab actually does have a cooldown, if you include reveal timer which is set to 4seconds in PvP, and 3 seconds if in WvW, but you’ve also got to include the amount of time that is needed to getting into stealth for the backstab, which could take up to another 1+ seconds so……

Even as I repeatedly defend our class here on the forum, praying that Anet might see our cries and come to their senses, I’m already bracing myself for the the day when they remove backstab from the game and give venoms a two second cooldown reduction in exchange. … Lol. People always assume that Thief is easy to play. Yes, the condition builds are easy to play. They are extremely forgiving. But there are plenty of builds available to all professions that are cheesy and easy to play. The condition builds available to Thief don’t use backstab. Backstab is a power build attack and power builds with Thieves are very un forgiving and require very active positioning.
I’m newer to Thief and I come from maining a Ranger for over a year. Thieves are lolz to fight when you learn how to deal with them. If they kill you after you’ve learned how to deal with them, you got outplayed. Deal with the fact that you can’t win against everyone and you’ll have a much better time. Thieves don’t need any more nerfs, they’re fine.
Also: Greatsword skill #4 Counterattack = block, Signet Of Stone = Invulnerability, “Protect Me!” Invulnerability, Juvenile Pig F2 command “Drink” become invulnerable. Rangers have plenty of invulns to deal with this kind of thing you just need to practice using them. The worst part is, all of what I’ve listed here can be used in the same build.

Yeah, backstab is the easiest skill to spam in the game.
First, you got to get into stealth, which eats around 50% of an thief initiative, if you are lucky. Second you got only 3 secs of stealth to position behind the target(so you get the full burst). Now, it wouldn’t be as bad, but most professions have access to speed boons, aegis, aoe stuns, cripples and many other ways which turns this into a really hard task. Third, even if you get lucky to land a BS, it it will not make a decent amount of damage if you aren’t running full zerker and have decent critical chance. Since going full zerker build is insanity, you get a crappy 2k backstab, which most opposing builds suck up like nothing’s happened. Fouth, of course, if you could land it, you got revealed debuff which prevents you from getting back on stealth again for at least 3 secs.
Yup… backstap is so spammable it makes me want to cry.

We need more than that. Barrage should have 20000 range and radius so you can sit on a tower and nuke the whole map.
That would finally balance rangers.
I think backstab needs to have a built in function to automatically Alt+F4 the player when using it, that way the enemy always wins and no QQ.

There’s something called “revealed” which makes you not be able to enter stealth for a few seconds. It’s also so hilarious how you have a 6billion damaging skill on like an 7sec cooldown.
