Its not a bug. It works as intended, albeit it may feel irrational. Read the tooltip, it says “unblockable”. Both the poison ticks and the intitiating direct damage upon placement of the AoE are unblockable, and just like all other unblockable skills they do not trigger any on block effects. That includes removal of Aegis. It doesnt block anything, why should it be removed?
I can understand where you come from and i´d like Aegis to vanish when i use Choking Gas as well, but as far as i can tell, this ain´t a bug.

Two problems with that change:
1. It’s a good bug fix, even if Assassin’s Equilibrium isn’t widely used.
2.There’s no nerf in that change.

- Removed initial damage from Chocking Gas. The skill still reveals the thief from stealth when fired.
^ Now no one can pose OP’s question. Problem solved!

I use to think that Anet will eventually get tired to nerf thieves unto the oblivion . . . but again i was totally wrong.

The initial hit ( 300 dmg lol ) should be blockable but not the poison field.
doesn’t break aegis ? why ? if i use my choking gas from stealth on a medi guard that has his aegis up surely said aegis should be broken since the skills now “hits” , thats only fair.
It procs the hit then revealed you, yes, but you didn’t hit the Guardian, thus the Aeigis remains — you aimed at the ground thus you hit the ground.
