Hye

What is, in theorycrafting, the critical rate for max DPS without putting too much points in precision?

Thanks

The reason most people ignore Critical Haste is because it throws off your timings. Dagger/Dagger for example might cast a Cloak and Dagger too quickly, thus wasting valuable initiative and thus DPS.

It’s slightly less problematic on Sword/Pistol and Pistol/Pistol but there too it also increases your Initative usage which is just not sustainable. There are typically better DPS traits that don’t come at the cost of Initative.

I fully believe that haste should affect thieves differently for this reason, and increase initiative regen by 50% rather than simply giving us unnecessary speed on a class where timing and precision twitch moments are a necessity.

I don’t know what the theorycrafting’s exact number is but 30% always worked out well for me. Anything greater than 30% will cost me either Crit Damage, Power, or Vitality — or all three.

Someone else can post the numbers but in my experience, 30% is the right amount.

I was wondering, in fact, if 63% critical hit rate is enough, or, maybe, too much.

42% is the mathematically balanced number.

Number 42 is the answer for all questions.

I’ve read a discussion about berserker (power) vs assassin (crit) gear, and people concluded assassin (crit) scales better with food, boons, and traits, resulting in a few % of more dps, but I haven’t tested it, so can’t confirm.

I’m not sure what you mean by “points in precision.” Are you referring to trait line points or simply just overall investment with gear?

Really depends on how you’re playing, honestly. Seeing as the precision line increases crit damage, they often go hand-in-hand. If you’re not playing crit damage, then simply just going for raw power is your best bet.

For the most part with thieves, DPS = critical damage/chance.

It really depends on expected role, too. I think a number in the 50’s is usually the ideal, notably so if you include Thrill of the Crime in your build, which pumps it to around 70% or so – more than enough for most burst chains in PvP. If you plan on sustained DPS, then higher crit chance is better, for playing a burst build works well vith valkyrie gear and the Hidden Killer GM trait.

There are very few thief builds that do not utilize crit chance/damage. The precision line is definitely one of the most useful, and having such crit damage scaling can make for increased DPS on auto-attacks and non-CnD/stab builds.

There’s no real definitive number, though. It depends on your gear, build, and playstyle. No point in sacrificing anything for crit chance if you have no crit damage, and vice versa.

What is, in theorycrafting, the critical rate for max DPS

It depends on what your other offensive stats are. If you have 0 critical hit damage for instance, critical hit chance isn’t very useful for Damage output. But if you have like 30000 critical hit damage, youd gain a lot more from critical hit chance.

Here ya go:

Power increase:
(oldpower + addedpower) / (oldpower) =1.XXYYYY
XX.YYY%= %damage increase

Crit damage increase:
(1.5 + oldcritdamage + addedcritdamage) / (1.5 + oldcritdamage) =1.XXYYY
XX.YYY * .critrate = %damage increase

Precision increase:
21 precision = +1% Crit chance at level 80.
Added Precision / 21 = X.YYY
X = addedcritchance
(1 + ((.5 + critdamage) * (oldcritchance + addedcritchance))) / (1 + (.5 + critdamage) * oldcritchance) =1.XXYYY
XX.YYY= %damage increase

These are the formulas for determining damage increases gained from adding power or precision or crit damage to your build.

without putting too much points in precision?

This part doesnt make any sense to me

Basically, hypothetically, if 2k is the OP’s “max DPS,” how much will that DPS change if he remove Precision gears in favor of Power, Crit Damage, or other stats gear — and will it remain as the max DPS?

However “max DPS” have several interpretations where some Thieves prefer sustain through survivability, some prefers high crit rate, and others prefer burst, or even a combination of everything, to reach the illusive “max DPS”.

Theory-wise, glass cannon build has the highest DPS, however in practicality, GC build will need to heal a lot, dodge a lot, downed a lot, etc which plays a big deal in terms of maximizing DPS.

So for someone like the OP would probably wants some kind of survivability, he’s asking how much precision gears can he use and significantly maintain his “max DPS.”
