Daredevil unblockable attacks a bit too good
I agree. There’s nothing about what you’re running, what your build is, what their build is, what traits and more are. Just, as always, “I lost to thief so it’s clearly unbalanced”.
Day 0
Nerf thieves
Never mind that until this point they could do nothing to bunkers.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Actually there is. Like I said, revenant. Which is how I was able to beat the trap thief trick the next time he tried it (Glint heal inversion to soak up the big hits).
The issue is the damage potential of Daredevils unblockable skills, which can kill you while you’re stuck in a blocking animation. sPvP situation and he did well over 15k through a block.
And if you want to look through my past post history, I’m well aware that thieves have been bottom of the pile for some time, but that doesn’t excuse terrible balancing the other direction.
(edited by SolarDragon.7063)
Now, I’m happy that thief has finally got a little love. I got my kitten exploded by a trapper thief in sPvP. And I shrugged. Probably a little ridiculous given they did a 17k crit shot from halfway across the map, but meh. I should have seen it coming and spammed all my dodges and blocks. Or something. Plus I know the cooldown on those traps. Fun gimmick but he wasn’t going to do it again soon. And I got him with some cheap tricks that only Rev can do the next time he tried it. Might be more mad if I hadn’t been rev, come to think of it.
But when a daredevil can do 15k damage to me in about three staff attacks WHILE I’M BLOCKING, there’s something a little wrong about the class. Sure, have unblockable things (Steal for one, and Mug should crit). But don’t have them be able to do that much damage through blocks.
so your complaining because you lost to a thief? Oh that’s funny, because I recall losing to every class in the game without a chance in kittening hell of ever coming out in top for a good 4 months. Just because you got outplayed doesn’t mean they need a nerf… Yes you got hit through your defenses, tough kitten. Thief doesn’t have defenses, they either kill, die or run. You can literally nearly one shot one any time up till this point. Quit kittening about a class that sorely needed a buff on the first day. Ps… You were playing a revenant.. And you are calling for nerfs…. Get out.
And you wonder why the devs don’t come into this forum, because the moment someone says something is SLIGHTLY too good you turn into a bunch of toxic whiners. Congratulations, you’ve made me ashamed to play the class.
I’m not complaining I lost, I’m pointing out that being able to do vast amounts of damage through blocks is ridiculous.
you ever seen Gunflame on warrior?

I’m a guard, so I know the pain of facing unlockable attacks. Just gotta break the Daredevil’s momentum with some aoe or traps of your own.
Also lol@hitting through block being considered as being outplayed.

The real problem is, why are you taking 15k damage? Ever considered perhaps that you need to rethink your build? So maybe even if the attack is unblockable that you would take less damage?
I’m not really sure what “staff attacks” you’re talking about, but take 15k damage from 3 attacks says more about your build than the staff attacks.

That sounds more like Thiefworldproblems, this guy should make a thief. Aside from that, the regular contributors to this forum consistently critique our own skills and traits and bring to light anything that might be overpowered, the Bandits Defense thread not long ago is a good example.

We don’t whine as you describe it if you would go as far as to say that I believe you have way too much acceptance and forgiveness on their way of balancing thief and the reason behind it. I would call it a reflex you receive what you gave out it’s not spontaneous toxicity.
To your second paragraph you are underestimating GW2 sustain, there is more than blocks and thief doesn’t excell at breaking them wait a couple weeks for things to settle down.
The Dhuumfire thread
I have a thief. I’ve made many posts about how awful thief has had it for quite a while. (Far too long) Because it’s true. Honestly, my reaction to being nearly one shot by the trapper when I wasn’t blocking was “Huh, traps are actually good in general now. Yay thief”. However that DOES NOT EXCUSE having overpowered abilities either. Now, if there’s an actual counter to massive damage through a block apart from “Don’t use block it’s bad now trololol” which is lovely to make an entire part of the game irrelevant (yes, revealed is similar but once again, no excuse for bad design just because it already exists), then feel free to actually point it out.
Also, god forbid any class than thief uses stat sets without toughness! Obviously the build is bad! Oh wait I was blocking and that’s meant to stop most attacks of that magnitude.
(edited by SolarDragon.7063)
What attacks are unblockable other than pulmonary impact?
Can someone enlighten me to what Thief unblockable attack the OP is referring to. Because, the only DareDevil one I know of is from a trait “Impacting Disruption” and it procs on an interrupt, so it can’t really be spammed, unless the person being attacked is spamming……
I don’t see any other unblockable attacks from DareDevil…
Can you tell me which attacks are unblockable please ?
Wait we have an unblockable attack skill that does 15k ? Which one is it ?

We stole the nerf bat at least DD did. Hard and unblockable swings caught him off guard it was a thrilling execution.
The Dhuumfire thread
I like the concept.
ALL Thief attacks should be unblockable.
Yes, make it baseline.
There are plenty of other types of defenses available.
Let the Thief counter it’s own weakness by inflicting it on others as well.
That should balance out things a bit.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

You have yet to disclose what is this overpowered unblockable staff skills. I’m sure you paid attention to your combat log, how else would you know the amount of damage you’re taking.

Um, dodge, evade, blind…you want more? Thief counters it all the time — since you said you have a Thief, you should have known this since Thief has no block except for Bandit’s.

Um no. Like you know, there are skills that are unblockable. So your build is already flawed.

Alright, lets do a step by step shutdown of the (not even 24 hours after HoT) Nerf Thief thread:
List of unblockable skills:
-Choking Gas. K that’s poison. Poison can’t do 15,922 damage in 3 staff attacks. This is also a (gasp) shortbow skill.
-The blind on Shadow Shot. Does not damage, applies blind, is not a staff skill.
-Larcenous Strike, sword/dagger. Does damage, however requires step 1 skill to deal damage else step 2 (LS) is not usable.
-All of our traps are unblockable.
-Impacting Disruption. Its a trait, requires interrupt. Is not staff accessible.
Thats it, that’s all of them.
Now mr.op- you were running yolo glass berserker, were you not? 15,922 is Revenants base hp margin after all.
What I believe to have happened is Tripwire was used to knock you off your block (because its unblockable), and then the Staff thief slammed you repeatedly. In your combat log, were you crippled? Otherwise, everything you have stated is false.
tl;dr- The only way op was hit through block is if the thief hit him with tripwire trap. Tripwire is an unblockable 3 second knockdown, capable of ENDING his block. From there and those 3 seconds, the staff was allowed to shred.
Edit: I would like to say that that then when would be rather ingenious. I may have to use this little trick. I honestly never thought of using Tripwire as a block-breaker.

Ah yes, Thief… the only profession that’s “overpowered” whenever it does its job for a moment, no matter how many times it was blown up in 2 seconds flat in between.

I was not pure glass berserker (who the hell yolos berserker in this condi meta?!), but I was already damaged to about 75%.
You’ve suggested a plausible explanation, assuming that tripwire will trigger if deployed on a stationary target. Is this correct?
Oh, also, thank you for acting like a human being.
(edited by SolarDragon.7063)
LMAO. A few hours into HoT and we already have people crying about thieves.
DEAR LAWD
Either the Thief is good or you’re just a really really bad Revenant.

Ah, a trapper Thief. I’ve been running that occasionally since the June patch hit. It’s nothing new. It can make Backstab and Heartseeker actually worth using for a D/x build.
The problem is it pretty much removes your sustainability in any fight that is not a complete ambush. It’s also risky as can be if you don’t ID your target before you engage. There’s simply too much AoE and too many passive defenses in this game.
So, you can actually drop tripwire on someone standing still, literally rooted by a skill, and it will knock them down and disable?
So, you can actually drop tripwire on someone standing still, literally rooted by a skill, and it will knock them down and disable?
Yes it can. Just like every other trap out there.
Well, from what ST has said, that seems to be the only explanation within game mechanics. I had never observed that trap behaviour before. Useful to know, I might have to pull my trapper hybrid out again… and smash my head on someone with permastab.

This is a clear example of how someone who doesn’t understand thief mechanics (and their weaknesses), loses to a thief, then instead of educating himself a bit, comes to the forums and cries for a nerf. It is the exact reason why thief is in the sorry position that it has been in for the past while. He even used the usual, “I have a thief, therefore if I ever lose to one, it must be because they are op” explanation. And worst of all, the devs actually listen to this drivel.
just let the post die
the guy is seriously lacking some knowledge or gaming intelligence
no point in beating a dead horse

Requoting this post because it’s true. If anyone has played WoW, Rogues have had the same treatment by big kitten crybabies on the forums. Because both classes have similar nature for it’s combat skillset

Now that reminds me didn’t a dev say anyone who loses to thief need to l2p but they keep nerfing anyway?

hmm yeah, it’s totally unfair when a class is given a mechanic that pretty much invalidates one of your major sources of damage mitigation.
like, I dunno, revealed?

Sounds like you just aren’t very good. Sorry your OP Warrior isn’t part of the meta.
if you are not one of them you shouldn’t play pvp

I don’t think you understood the tone that was written in, but I don’t blame you since we’re on the net.
Allow me to clarify:
1. I’m not crying about trip (or DD for that matter).
2. I totally agree that the ton of reveals arent fair, but stealth isn’t as important to thief as blocks are to guardian. Thief has SB to escape if things get hairy and they’re revealed. Guard has…nothing but a blind or two.

NICE ONE
i lol’d so hard

Assuming thief has the initiative to get away after being revealed.
Guardians rely on blocks, thieves rely on stealth.
Now you see how it feels to have your core mechanic negated. You don’t lose your condi purging, cooldowns and heals upon having blocks broken though.
