Everyone should reroll to mesmer
I noticed this in WvW last night. 2 mesmers basicly perma stealthing kept on porting entire mobs into SM. What a great idea to give mesmer so much stealth combined with a skill to port a massive zerg. Some great minds at work here.

Well, that’s VERY broken. xD But then again, we all knew Chronomancer was gonna be OP.

As far as I know, stealth is capped at 14 (15?) seconds.
If you look closely, the “stealth” used in this vid is marked as “Hide in Shadows” instead of “Stealth”, they are not the same buff.
Maybe anet forgot to limit this buff to a certain amount?

I know I’ve had my thief up to at least 19 seconds of stealth. Maybe I need to do some more testing :-P

Yes, it seems I’m capped at 19 seconds. But that may be due to the stack limit, not the duration limit. With Shadow Arts, I hit the 19 second cap with Shadow Refuge, Blinding Powder, Hide in Shadows, and Steal.
2nd EDIT: It may be 20 seconds, but by the time I get my cursor over the Stealth icon, it says 19.

You are right, just tested it and was able to get 19 (20?) seconds of stealth with shadow arts.
Without shadowarts however, I was not able to surpass the 15s, not because of the lack of Meld with Shadows.
This looks to me like its capped at 5 stacks (5×4sec with shadow arts, 5×3sec without shadow arts).
Yes, mesmer is strong atm but why jump the band wagon? Thief core mechanics didn’t change (which are still fun) besides playing mesmer will just spoil me (just like turret engi would) and make me worse player than i am atm.
Also, i personally don’t use as much stealth in pvp as it can lose me point pretty fast.

I enjoy playing Thief more than any other class in the game, it also totally suits my role-play theme and preference, and I don’t enjoy playing the Mesmer class.That’s reason enough for me not to switch to the latest fotm.
I’m also not a huge fan of stealth. Sure I use it, as for many builds as you have to, and in PvP it’s now integral but I vastly prefer shadow-stepping mechanics akin to the GW1 Assassin hence perma-stealth is actually a deterrent for me.

Chronomancer is OP…
I am already putting together my chronomancer suit, it’s been fun playing thief, 2016 will be a mesmer year for trolling and solo roaming.
Yes the days of thief are over pu mesmers are were it now days
ill still play thief. I put a lot of effort into gearing it.

why do mesmers even get stealth? isn’t that a thief thing? who made that decision? thief is basically a kitten warrior, revenant, mesmer…
Losing patience with anet to be honest.
Their weird class desing choices are bad enough, having balance every half a year or so is just a no.
But in the end the latest patch broke that much class/balance wise, that they will have to nerf 3/4 of it anyway- that will take about 2 years. In the mean time we have an expansion, so another bunch of weird choices which need to be nerfed again as well.. so give or take 3 years until there’s some sort of balance, then the next expansion will come and all of it will start again.

I just get bored playing thief these days but that’s probably due to me playing only thief for over a year when I got the game.
guy this is only if no enemies is near, you won’t do it in dungeon, you won’t do it in pvp, you may do it in www to run away, but even then, it is useless.

I wouldn’t mind a complete re-imagining of mesmer right now. Mesmer was my first class and I thought confusion and illusions would be the main concept. But it ended up being Shattercat vs. PU condi and nothing else.
Gimmicks like superspeed on glamour yet weird application of swiftness and broken focus stacking, the weird scepter auto attack chain that spawns a semi-clone semi-phantasm, very slow staff that attempts to be a melee weapon (like GS is ranged) but fails and finally with PU upgrade it just killed the class dead for me. Now I can csplit too? There needs to be a much stronger theme tying everything together. I wish it was redesigned from scratch.
I don’t think Mesmer is a better thief though. Mesmers mobility is abit strange whereas thief is much more controlled.

we still don’t know if the new thief elite spec brings some balance for as aswell and new mechanic to play with
thief is right now uncompleted imo

Note: Mesmers were generally the only class that had poor matchups against thieves before this.
Nobody’s really asking to nerf us. In fact I think before the balance mesmers made up the bulk of the thief nerf threads.

Generally I’d agree with you, though it’s hard to deny that Mesmer was overtuned with the spec update. If they give us thieves our evades back, buff meld with shadows, and improve our other weapon sets besides D/P, I will have no complaints.
There’s only one overtuned thing on the Mesmer kit right now, IMO, and that’s Confounding Suggestions. We shouldn’t be able to attain that kind of lockdown from a single trait in one of our two best damage specs. It either needs to be toned down with a bigger ICD or moved to a different trait line or both.
Torch stealth is literally broken in that the Torch trait is bugged to give over 3x as much CDR as it should be. It’s annoying that this hasn’t been fixed by now, since it totally distorts the discussion around Mesmer stealth in general and PU in particular. (Lots of people calling for PU nerfs when it’s not even the worst offender as far as giving us “permastealth” right now.)
If those two things get fixed, then Mesmer should be in a healthy place, especially after the Mantra fix-nerfs.
Not sure what Thief needs right now, I don’t PvP on my Thief and haven’t done much PvE on her in a long time, though I wouldn’t have any issues with seeing Thiefs get some utility/survivability buffs.

Elite specs should add to and expand upon the base class, but should not be required for the base profession to be valid. otherwise it’s a cash-grab from a bunch of jerks with no morals.
