Gonna need builds for the post-December 10th patch all. I’ll be deleting my original tank S/D, since ANet, nerfing everything and whatnot, has made PVT gear for the thief practically unusable…

DoS is only any good in WvW, and IMO it’s too unreliable to be considered an “amazing” trait. I just listed the most consistent and overall best methods of getting stealth for all game modes.

Made a few changes; added some builds, changed others. I’m going to start adding notes referring to what I interpret as the meta builds for each weapon set, if there is one (which may not be the case for weaponsets like P/D).

Those typically are going to fall under the category “PvE”. To be honest, I’m no expert at dungeon builds (though I could probably craft an effective one fairly easily), so I haven’t put down any dungeon-specific builds. The problem, however, extends beyond that anyways; thieves are typically seen as being unviable in dungeons, or extremely weak in comparison to other classes. Personally, I’m not one of the people that finds them excessively weak, but I do think that they could arguably be the weakest class of them all. Either way, the point is that there aren’t many dungeon builds that float around, and the ones that do tend to be very stereotypical of PvE “DPS DPS DPS” builds anyways. Not to mention- apparently some thieves have been kicked (more often recently than ever before, in my experience) or told to reroll in both dungeons and other game modes.

I know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for, but it is an explanation.

2. Thief builds have literally come to a standstill, to the point where I’d say that my 10 0 0 30 30 S/D build would probably be considered “new” even though it’s over a year old because nobody plays it. There are really not any “new” builds to the extent of my knowledge, and certainly not any that deserve special mention. I think it’s extremely unfortunate for the thief community, but we’ve been in this state for a while now.

Yeah you can run that in WvW. You might want to lay off the Soldier’s gear a little bit though- that’s what I would do anyways. But if you enjoy the play style with Soldier’s gear, or are relatively new to the game, or are worried that you might be facing large groups of people and want to take part in the charge of an attack, then the use of Soldier’s gear is completely acceptable. It’s still acceptable otherwise but you might find the play style a bit bland if it’s not to your tastes.

It’s a wvw build, alternative runes can be Scholar, Strength or Privateer (never tested these).
Swappabel traits:
Critical Strikes: Hidden killer can be swapped to Executioner.
Shadow arts: Cloaked in Shadows or Shadow’s Embrace can be swapped to Infusion of Shadow.
Acrobatics: Power of Inertia can be swapped to Fleet Shadow.

Geez all of these are insanely out of date…

What’s a great PvE build for a d/d and shortbow thief? (Armor and weapons are marauder, and trinkets are zerker. All ascended except underwater weapons)

It’s gotta have Daredevil, that’s for sure. But I’m willing to try other builds besides my current which is not dealing a lot of damage.
