‘Sup y’all.

So it’s been pretty much confirmed that every class will get ONE new weapon/specialization.

Enough with the crappy ideas of axe/mace/offhand sword, its a specialization not a god kitten class-overhaul.

So here’s the deal, no more beating around the bush, the thief uses STEALTH and precise gameplay to achieve their goal – Snipe a target down.

Enter The Operative specialization.
- new weapon Rifle (1200 range);
- the weapons’ goal is to pop huge damage from stealth, damage varies depending on how far the target is – the further away, the more damage it deals;
- outside o stealth its more of an utility weapon ranging from dazes, blinds, maybe even a “scorpion wire” shot?! but still dealing good enough damage – think short bow.
- the new utils would be something that would work differently in/out of stealth – example:
“Improved Blinding Powder” – Stealths and blinds, bast finisher bla bla – If used while stealthed the thief knocks the target down for 2seconds and grants the thief fury for 5 seconds.

Or something of the sorts, i really cant be bothered to think this all by myself, ay?!

As for “RP” issues, there are none! Its a god kitten Operative, it uses daggers, pistols, swords and a RIFLE. It uses agility, subterfuge and skill to get his target down.

No!..sorry, but rifle is still a bad weapon for a class like thief.

Instead of introducing yet another kitten ranged weapon, they are better off just FIXING P/P.

Thieves are not DYING for a 1200 ranged weapon. Only bad thieves are DYING for a 1200 ranged weapon…especially in PvE.

Anyway, like Kurow said : Only bad thieves are DYING for a 1200 ranged weapon…especially in PvE.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

That would be interesting… Taking away stealth and giving a rifle. Not sure if anyone really wants specifically that.
They should also make the rifle a melee weapon to sweeten the package. Stealthless, melee, rifle – exactly what everyone has been hoping for.

Noooope, nope nope nope. To say that a Thief uses stealth to achieve his goal is like saying an Engineer inevitably uses elixirs to achieve his. It’s important to know that stealth is only one part of your abilties.

Carrying a rifle is kind of against the thief’s very gameplay, and on top of it, the idea of mixing stealth with a high burst 1200 range weapon is simply toxic. Honestly, you have the Warrior class for all your Samurai and Rifleman needs, they can extend their concepts to more than just barbarian and dark knight and stuff.

Mace, offhand sword and whatever was suggested because it remained within what the Thief stands for within its core: a cunning and dirtier fighter; not some super-agent assassin armed to take down targets from afar.

Forget it kids, stealth is here to stay. And no its not “just an utility” like elixirs, its a mechanic to which the thief has much needed access to.

That would be interesting… Taking away stealth and giving a rifle. Not sure if anyone really wants specifically that.

It would probably be wiser to foresee a rifle with limited access to stealth (only utility skill) and with high range control potential. It wouldn’t be what everyone want but, the would be better than a “One shot, one kill, nobody saw me” range weapon.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

I’m really new to the Thief, guys, so maybe that’s the reason I had no idea stealth was so relevant.

I’m currently running this meta build for general PvE, Dungeons and WvW, and so far I haven’t had any problem, and I must say its really easy to kill things/people. I only use stealth when I’m bored of kitting mobs.

Stealth is really THAT important? It doesn’t feel so…

Knowing ANet though, it will be something with traps and/or venoms.

Ah yes, I know…
We will get a torch/focus off-hand and the spec will specialize in traps, and it will be called the “Explorer”. And then we can all, or whoever is the quickest, re-roll/name change our thieves to have the name “Dora”. Almost forgot to mention, since the focus/torch glows, it constantly replies revealed debuff, just because some people want(ed) steathless builds.

Oh no, don’t lose excitement or hope or whatever, I want you to stick around, other than you there’s just rangers and überpros who call me a noob – I would have no reason to come here anymore – and how should I survive the loading screens of GW if I’m not passing the meantime on the forums? =(

Rifle for teef will be completely awesome: We will be able to fly through the sky on it and umm.. escape? So, it will be a bit like a rocket, you hop onto it, it will be stealthed for the first 5 secs and then bring you to a safe place in a distance of 1200. It will then explode in fire and burn all enemies waiting there. Unblockable I should add. You also get 5 stability while riding on it. You can use this as an infiltrator tool as well though. And in the first time it will be bugged so thieves in wvw will be able to burnfly into enemy towers and solo cap them.
Ok, I’ll stop here.

That rocket idea might not be so far fetched, I was kind of thinking of how a rifle would have mobility…
But more on the lines of Caitlyn’s net from LoL, where she shoots the net and the shot sends her flying back a bit. Could be like a charge up too, the longer you charge it the further you will fly/get knocked back.
That or they could just take short bow’s infiltrator’s arrow and call it infiltrator’s bullet.

Or they could just give them the longbow and make petless rangers happy with a 1200 range stealth-less, blind-less mobility-based weapon. The thief doesn’t need more burst damage/“sniping.” It needs a tool to at the least hit people over WvW keep walls (and what will be stronghold presumably) with a little bit of sustained pressure and emphasis on mobility. Shortbow almost provides this, but its damage is just sub-par and has too much necessary utility to buff it back to the way it was.
