I'm done playing thief. How about you?
Yea it also makes me laugh when people say thief is the most mobile class when it’s not . We don’t even have swiftness which is a complete joke to me .
Sword\warhorn and greatsword + bullcharge warrior can outrun anybody and it shouldn’t happen .
They still don’t have the combat mobility of a thief. Shadow stepping also allows the thief to skip many obstacles. Thief is also a lot better sprinter even if the warrior may win the long distance run.
What to do lol.
The birthday rewards are account bound, you can use the level 20 scroll and the ‘gain a level’-scrolls you have obtained so far to skip the boring levels on a new profession. You don’t need to do the story, it is not relevant, but it does help to unlock story modes on the dungeons you frequent on your new profession. You don’t even need to enter Orr (the most boring area in the entire game) and level exclusively in other areas by completing hearts, events, skill points and vistas. Then the choice just comes down to, what profession are you going to play … (depends on your style)

I love my All-Settler’s gear Super Unicorn. Caltrops for everyone! ((flings spikey bits of metal into every corner of this thread))
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Recently rolled an engineer to counteract the thief blues I’ve been feeling lately.
Asura Thief/Ele
HoD
I created a thief at launch and had a lot of fun, stopped playing entirely for probably 6-8 months and came back to it. Finding it was nerfed to the ground, switched to guardian which I now enjoy a lot.
Problem I found with the thief upon my return was any spec you setup can be done better by another class. Whether its burst, DoT, support, certainly “tanking” or as tanky as this game gets. Sucks because I play stealth/thief-like classes in most other games I play but this was just a chore.
I’m not going to stop playing my thief but I dont know, something lately just doesn’t feel “right”. I can’t explain it or pin point it so yea, I have that feeling that others seem to have.
“every other class can just simply do this better”.
I use it for:
- Open world content, mostly rushing to daily bosses with teleport-spam. It’s good at that.
- High level fractals for the various ridiculous workarounds like blindspam, permastealth and others.
- Showing off fractal weapons.
After running most dungeons a couple times with warrior/guardian, I just feel stupid if I try to play thief again in dungeons. Less health, less damage, (generally less stats), less boons, less support… what is thief for?

I only use my thief for gathering mats and making deldrimor dowels. That’s it. :I

Thieves are OP for that, they need to slow down their crafting speeds they seem to be a bit faster than other classes… Especially when they stealth and craft, I hear they craft 100 items a second in stealth… they need to be nerfed.
More condition removal and stun breaks built into every weapon set.

Whaha xD
Back on topic, I made a thief, but never played it much beside getting it to 80.
Reading this topic its kinda confusing me, I dont really know with what weapons to roll with, let alone utilities and gears.
Ele has been an enjoyable class to play so far, and I’m only at lvl 22
Another class I enjoy a lot and have it at lvl 80 is guardian, and would probably be my main if I ever decided to abandon thief
Actually, he seems to hate Ele , too.
By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!
I gave up on my thief in September after playing it for a year. Even if i didnt do it then these dec 10th changes would have made me.

I went for warrior and I kidd you not, there are times when I 1v1 someone and by the end of the fight, I see 2 other people downed because they got caught in my 100 blades and ww in the middle of the fight and I didn’t notice.
I’m trying to level a Mesmer because they can be useful in both wvw and pve, but man, I spent a fortune on the human cultural set for my thief, and all that time grinding dungeons and stuff…man…
There are multiple builds for thief, thief is not broken and is not a bad class. Just like engineer this kitten takes a while to get used to and if you don’t get the hang of it in PvP. GTFO and stop QQing no one likes you and your talking kitten about something you don’t understand well enough.
Oh yeah ofc we have multiple viable builds. Thats D/P, D/p, d/P and …. oh right d/p.
You obviously can’t use anything else if you don’t know how to play thief without D/P. I use D/D without regen or init regen or remov condi’s. I backstab for 13k and can win 1v3’s. please learn to play your class.
I’ll suck volcanus for stability.
thief is no longer going to be noob friendly after dec 10th. But the good thiefs will still do decent/well.

Link a build and video proof of your claims and I’ll believe you.
Killing 3 clueless uplevels doesn’t count either.
I look forward to the challenge. Perhaps people won’t hate us so much once the cheese builds are no longer viable. It willbe nice to be appreciated and valued.
People will hate us. We just wont be doing anything beyond bankstanding in LA.
Sadly I too am done for a while until they fix this class….
I’m going over to Warrior, why? Cause I hate non melee combat/Phalanx Armor is pretty sick.
I am aware of guardian as an option, I already have 1 thief 2 warriors 1 guardian 1 ranger….all at 80.
Nope. Loved thief since launch, still do.
Sometimes it’s nice to be a “carebear” PVE player. Nerfs to me are just meh, I barely notice them. People are complaining about a 1/4 second cast time added to an ability; a quarter of a second !?!?!!!

….that measly 1/4s prevents it from being a pseudo-stunbreak. I know you rarely get CC’d in PvE but it’s kind of a big deal in PvP y’know.
Rogues are an inherently solo class.
In order to be effective, they have to be ‘gimicky’ – this is how the current perma-stealth gimick build came about.
Think about it: Warriors and Guardians are ‘steady’ – they can sustain a fight with damage mitigation – and give as much as they can take. They can toe to toe.
Ranged classes are glass cannons – they will mow you down as long as you can’t reach them, but they fall over at a sneeze.
The Thief – melee glass cannon – is a gimick. They also fall over at the slightest hint of retaliation, but they’re supposed to hit so hard and fast, and be so uncatchable, that this rarely happens.
In actual practice though, you can’t work this into a stable PvP class – because one of several things will happen over time:
Thieves get shunted into a highly specialized, rarely used role (where only they can cap an objective effectively, but this objective is peripheral, or rarely used – or they have one highly specific ‘station’ to watch over, like ganking people around a particular bend or corridor, but nothing else).
They have a single (or perhaps double) effective build that is extremely gimicky and destroys build diversity – like permastealth. Other players hate it – because when it works, it’s highly frustrating to them (can’t touch the Thief – feels like instagib), and Thieves hate it too because they feel pigeonholed, and have no other options.
The Thief gets modified – over time – to resemble other classes (like the Warrior or Ranger) – and then everyone wonders why bother, if the class resembles something else.
You can’t balance a SOLO class around group mechanics.
This is why Rogues are best for single player RPG’s – because when you slit the throat of an NPC and one shot them – no one gets mad.
When you stealth through an entire level, avoiding all obstacles, taking no damage, to stand on the piled corpses of your enemies laughing – no one screams “OP!” because it’s just computer controlled opponents.
The Thief MUST be OP to function at all – otherwise it’s a sub-par Warrior (with less armor).
Being OP is the very heart and soul of any class which must rely on GIMICK just to survive.
I bet my entire gaming career that Anet will not, can not, ever get this right.

There is a big, BIG difference between a short cast time and the actual act of adding a cast time to something that didn’t have one.
Intention – nerf S/D. Actual effect – nerf both S/D and whatever is left of S/P.
