NERF THIEVES PLEASE!!!
I think I lost a few brain cells reading this thread.
I found another thief player, of course thieves will try to troll on this legitemate thread, they don’t want their precious class nerfed. However, do thief players even have any brain cells to began with, I mean all they do is spam mindlessly
I found another player who’de rather have their wins handed to them than get better.
Thief has been designed like that since day one. If you won’t adapt or get better, then pvp isn’t for you.

After dying so many times, your body becomes used to the dmg, so you just become completely immune. Almost every thief has unlocked this, how come you still havn’t done it yet? In fact, if you die 100000000000000000000000 times, you will gain the ability to teleport to any enemy on the map and instantly kill them, this skill is so kitten op!

It’s sad when you think about it, but I am glad we have such a great thief community that we can ban together under our depressing state and have a few laughs. I honestly spend more time on the thief forums reading troll posts than playing nowadays.
I lost my wits. I mean, my backstab does more than an Scrapper’s Hammer 1 but less than any of the 4 skills. But its k, I got stealth and they don’t. I’m op.

It’s not op, its overcompensated. All it has is damage and evades with a few condi disablers. It’s also very, very slow which means against other Thief builds it gets outplayed. Don’t get me wrong, it is strong- but its not as strong as others in different ways. And unfortunately, Staff can’t be buffed anymore. But hey Thief op =P. The new e-specs weapon isn’t op =P, but Thief op.
Edit: Should probably explain. Daggers have high sustainable burst and execution, Pistols have high ranged burst and control, sword has high fight control through roots/boon-steal/stun, and shortbow is shortbow 5.

Thieves will either go in stealth or dodge inside your AoE. For each evade, it triggers their “on evade” traits. Thieves have done this inside SR while getting AoE’d.

this can be dodged yes. but it LASTS 8 SECOUNDS. aka as soon as your dodge ends YOU LOSE STEALTH unless u can jump OUT of the trap’s range before the evade ends.
with a attack radius longer than the trap radius. this means evade wotn work well.
for engineer
analyze.
and detection pulse.
both cant be dodged
there is also the engineer trait LOCK ON.
combine this with a AoE like grenades, or flamethrower. and NO EVADE will be able to outlast this. this will basically cancel stealth perminently unless the theif can get out of range of the engineer.
and guess what. by your logic. evade can counter anything. but u don’t have unlimited evades. they have cooldowns. and a period between evades.
so try again.

You do realize that dodging happens during the Revealed right? It’s not dodging the skill that Reveals the Thief, rather dodging every other skill after getting Revealed.
Even though you have the skill to Revealed them, they will simply dodge around until they can stealth again — and they can stealth more than you can reveal that’s why those reveal skills are useless and not a hard counter.
Do you understand now why Thief needs to be nerfed?

if theif was OP….why are other classes used as well in the league?
if theif was as OP as you claim. why doesn’t EVERYONE use it?
theif is strong at its given role yes. but its extremely squishy and punishing of mistakes.
its stealth and evasion are all the defense it has.
and it lacks effective AoE skills. or any skills at all to make it able to conduct long duration fights.
boss fights, meta events, zergs, or even group combat.
all of these a theif is horrible for.
it even lacks a true long range weapon. beign stuck at 900 range.
what a thief is good at, is 1 on 1, hit and run, and sneaking past mobs in dungeons.
all classes have situations they are best at. these are the theives
if u try to fight a theif in 1 on 1 and you aren’t a bunker, or AoE build. or bringing one of the skills i posted above.
then you deserve to die. as your literally playing to the theives strength.
what is the theif best at killing. berserker set glass cannon players who place no value in defense, durability, or survivability.

engineer skill lock on. no cooldown AT ALL. just hit the theif.
theif can evade yes. but guess what. it can’t evade 24/7. specially against spammed grenades or flamethrower. which will immediatly hit after the evade ends, blast the stealth to oblivion. and reveal the theif.
the theif will not be able to restealth as the lock on will continue(coupled with the AoE engi skill) to remove stealth
theres also the ranger skill sic em. couple this with the longbow’s 2 skill and after the theif restealths after sic em ends. the longbow will continue to hit the theif. even when stealthed.
also. sic em lasts 10 secounds, applying a 6 SECOUND reveal. if the theif stays in the 2k range. thats 16 secounds of FORCED REVEAL.
necro wells and marks can be used to track a stealthed theif with their spammability
and all AoE pulls (of which warrior, rev, and guardian have) can and will pull it. they can dodge it sure. but thats 1 less dodge when stealth ends
mesmer can summon clones and stealth itself. a theif will have to go through hell to kill it, most likely dying itself due to clone explosions and torment.
and ele can track theif easily by paying attention to the dmg panel to see which of its AoE attacks is hitting for dmg.

engineer. lock on. reveal pulse. analyse. flamethrower. grenades.
necro. staff, wells, marks, shroud 4 and 5. GS.

That’s just an illusion. There is no “hard counter” to Thieves. If you Revealed them, they will dodge and evade, then go back in stealth.

Stealth is not useless. If the Thief can force a Ranger to bring a dead skill Sic ’Em, the Thief have already won.

There’s no such thing. There is no way to beat a Thief. They have so much utility, evade, block, and invulnerability that there is nothing you can do to beat them.

You cannot trap a Thief, they will shadowstep out of it or dodge around in it to trigger “on evade” traits.

No it doesn’t. Barbaric approach never work. You need to be a 5-start General who’s really good at forming strategies and tactical maneuvers.

Their armor is part of the illusion because when they go in stealth, they receive 25% damage reduction plus the pulsing heal which greatly increase their effective health while in stealth. This is one of the reasons why your “solutions” will never work.
Everyone agree that Thief is OP and I just laid out some of the reasons why.

You do realize that dodging happens during the Revealed right? It’s not dodging the skill that Reveals the Thief, rather dodging every other skill after getting Revealed.
Even though you have the skill to Revealed them, they will simply dodge around until they can stealth again — and they can stealth more than you can reveal that’s why those reveal skills are useless and not a hard counter.
Do you understand now why Thief needs to be nerfed?

theres also the ranger skill sic em. couple this with the longbow’s 2 skill and after the theif restealths after sic em ends. the longbow will continue to hit the theif. even when stealthed.
also. sic em lasts 10 secounds, applying a 6 SECOUND reveal. if the theif stays in the 2k range. thats 16 secounds of FORCED REVEAL.
necro wells and marks can be used to track a stealthed theif with their spammability
and all AoE pulls (of which warrior, rev, and guardian have) can and will pull it. they can dodge it sure. but thats 1 less dodge when stealth ends
mesmer can summon clones and stealth itself. a theif will have to go through hell to kill it, most likely dying itself due to clone explosions and torment.
and ele can track theif easily by paying attention to the dmg panel to see which of its AoE attacks is hitting for dmg.

was your mesmer “upleveled” aka a lv 20 upleveled to 80 for WvW.
if so, you take more dmg. warrior rifle “kill shot” is famous for its 1 shots…on upleveled players
are you wearing broken armor? or full berserker?
are you not using mesmer stealth or clones?
in all the time i’ve played theif, i’ve never seen backstab do more than 10k. and that 10k was against a player who was under lv 50 who had been upleveled to 80 for WvW….and was still in lv 40 gear.
the normal backstab dmg (keeping in mind a 200% crit dmg and the base backstab dmg) is usually 4-6k to light armor 4-5k for medium armor. and 3-5k for heavy armor.
and thats if u hit their back
if u hit their front. that dmg is cut down to 2k.
stealth, isn’t the thing your complaining about
what you seem to be complaining about. is the 100% crit chance while stealthed.
is it unfair? up to you. i no longer use it cause i prefer crits to heal me a bit. (so i have 40% crit chance…even stealthed)
if you mean in sPvP. then any backstab hit would never go above 6k. unless u missing pieces of your armor.
heart seeker is annoying yes. but its spammable.
aka use blind.
or clones.
or knockdowns.

also…keep in mind mesmer is a support class. not tank or front line.
theif is sorta designed to hunt glass cannons. like mesmer and ele.

Vault and dodge spam works against bads, any decent player will watch for the obvious Vault animation and dodge it. Dodge spam is also kittened because it does less than basic attacks and should only be used to dodge when needed. I play bunker Thief and fear a dagger Thief in a +1 100x more than a Vault spammer because Backstab can’t be stopped, dodge the Vaults and he is doing less than any other damage build on any other class.

Yes, 3 years and it’s still OP and it became a reality-tearing-broken when they released Daredevil. The Thief is now literally destroying the current meta. A Thief and a Druid can 2v5 on a node and can kill all 5 players at the same time.

The only fact is that in the last 3 years that Thief is getting nerfed means that it’s been OP ever since from the very beginning and the nerfing is still not enough due to the new skill the profession have acquired after HoT.
It will take another 3 year before ArenaNet can nerf Thief enough to make it not OP. The Daredevil just threw the last 3 years of nerfs out the window.

If 12k damage didn’t finish you, I still have 3 utilities and an Elite skill that I haven’t used. I’m sure that after dealing 12k to you and if I followed it with Impact Strike, you’re done.

What profession can you find that can crit for 3k from their dodge? Even Warrior’s Reckless dodge is nothing compare to this.
Not to mention, Bound buffs your next Physical attack by 10% more damage plus 10% Staff damage because using your Bound depletes endurance and enables Staff Master. Also Bound puts you within the 360 range which enables Havoc Mastery for another 7% damage — this is why Vault hits like a truck.
Then if you add stacks of might and vulnerability to the equation…so OP.

Ok, im not going to defend the obscene backstab crits ive gotten against level 80’s in WvW, even though i only have exotic sin/zerker. not even full zerker getting easy 13k+ HS>steal>Backstab combos at 100% opponent HP. Two of those nukes down just about anyone, so long as they dont … idk … dodge at the right time. Predicting my actions as a D/D thief who has very little in the way of offensive approach styles with do D/D burst any justice.
Im no pro thief, or pro anything. But theres specific skill set and approach combinations that maximize the offensive stats. If one of those fail, its either climb that hill and hope they arent pro, or wait out some coolies.

Well, I didn’t see their undies. Not even skin that I can remember. I would find it odd for two players to both be running without all their armor, though. If they were naked, perhaps, but not just random armor pieces missing.
However, I do practice on naked golems :-)

25 stacks of Might on me, 10 stacks of Vulnerability on my target.
Complete ambush build. I did feel a bit sorry for the Thief I hit. I say I “one-shotted” him because my Backstab was the only damaging skill I used. Set a Shadow Trap on a point, saw him coming, I ran away like a coward and let him see me go. He tripped the trap, I popped Assassin’s Signet, activated Shadow Pursuit (Shadow Trap), and Trip Wired on top of him. Backstabbed him while he was down. RIP, Thief :-(
However, I was proud of my Warrior kill. We were locked in a duel on point. He nearly got me a few times. But my traps cooled off, and I decided to lay one as I was running through the point. He triggered it, and I was able to get my shot in. Sadly, it usually doesn’t work that way.
Anyway, here are pics of the build. And I’d change some of the traits if I’d want a chance at an even higher damaging Backstab, but this one is dependable. I’d also go with Scholar runes after the Vamp nerf. By the way, I have sigils of Force and Impact on my Dagger/Pistol.
The bottom line… Thief is definitely OP at defending a point. Even more than D/D Elementalist ever was… well, you know… if the opponent stops moving, suspects nothing, drops his guard, doesn’t set traps/wells/marks around him, or have invulnerabilities/passive defenses that ignore CC.
Never been one to call out for nerfs on a class, I think only broken things like Ice Bow have ever really deserved it.
But I would like to know what allows a single thief to go right through an entire WvW zerg dodge rolling non-stop taking little to no damage whilst healing back to full health when a hit would land. I couldn’t believe what I was watching, infinite dodge rolls?
Essentially how does a zerg stop it? How do you counter this? Nothing seemed to work.
