Looking at the new Practiced Tolerance trait, I’m really confused.

As it stands, PT gives 7% precision → vitality, as a means of beefing up our squishy butts while focusing on crit builds/crit strikes.

The AMA livestream changes mentioned this number was getting raised to 10%. Okay, but this trait becomes really important with the removal of Applied Fortitude from WvW and the buff to condition damage while not changing our cleansing much.

Is the announced change to PT (10% precision converted into Ferocity) really going to negate the only +vit/condition damage resistance we have as a crit strikes build in favor of silly damage (which punishes valkyrie users trying to offset this), or is the announcement a typo?

I’m really hoping it’s a typo. I’m one for damage (I play signets), but there’s a line that needs to be drawn in regards to condition damage problems already plaguing the class. Not to mention our access to Resistance from Acrobatics has been removed.

I wish they would just increase the base health for the Thief, and be done with it. They already seem to be herding us into a kamikaze-type role. Do as much damage as you can before you die.

Nerfing endurance regeneration, Shadow Protector, forcing a choice between Cloaked in Shadow and Shadow’s Rejuvenation… I don’t know what else they want, really. Especially with all of the nasty damage that every profession can do now. And I don’t even need to mention the engi.

Suggestions to overhaul the Thief…

I think they removed the vitality from PT cos with the removal of stats from trait lines, this trait alone would give us a nice chunk of HP without investing into vitality gear.

PT + guard stacks that’s like 16k HP in wvw for a zerker thief, I can see why these things will be removed.

CS is a dps trait line, with the changes it will do just that, dps. The question is whether our other trait lines will be enough for a zerker thief to survive.

Mmm I agree with Jayden on CS being a damage line focusses on critical strikes so to me it only makes sense to convert precision into ferocity.

Personally I’ve always ran this trait in the past and I liked the 1500k HP I got from it, but I think it will not make a huge difference. If you need to more HP in WvW I would suggest changing some armor piece to gain that extra vitality (instead of the now increased ferocity)

One issue I see is this. If they put too much of the attributes like Vitality into the gear then it becomes more imperative that gear be used for the same.

Just as example and speaking to Runesets. A given Runeset might provide +180 to power in the current system. Now I might say “Ok I really prefer ferocity off the Runeset as I want Rune of Rage over strength , I will forgo that power and make it up taking the DA line as I am going that line anyway”

New system it all comes from gear and the new number is 250 power off Rune of Strength. Can I afford to give up 250 power ? highly doubtful. I can still get ferocity out of CS line though. I can not get any extra power anywhere in traits. End result Runesets with power preferred.

Now in an ideal world to prevent this each traitline will provide some trait that allows for a “makeup” OR we see more Runesets that apply a blend like Rune of the pack or adventurer where one gets a bonus to two seperate attributes but dependent on how all the new numbers shake out in the gear/base we may have to all go Celestial or be forced as Thieves with low base HP into Vitality gear.

The very fact other classes start off with higher base HPS and or can get more Vitality through a trait gives them a tremendous balance advantage UNLESS our base in something like power/ferocity etc starts much higher. Starting with higher base HPs allows more choices in gear or traits not Vitality related.

Now in thoery lack of health on the part of the thief is made up for with dodges and stealth that prevent those attacks occurring in the first place BUT we have seen the number of dodges cut back and stealth limited yet more with various traits and abilities other classes gaineven as total damage output by most of the classes seems to be going up.

Obviously this all speculation at this point and we will not really know until it kicks in come next week.

Guard stacks are being removed. That’s why this is actually so concerning; you’re stuck with no way into even remotely similar health in WvW now. Full Valkyrie gear still only puts you to like 14-15k, so PT would be a happy medium.

Yeah I think selecting gear/upgrades will be more important than ever, I just hope they’ll introduce some new stat combinations so we have more choice to balance out stats.

PT is also my choice when I put pts into CS, and honestly I am bit worried about how the change will shape up classes cos every class that doesn’t have pure dps line like CS, will essentially get a dps buff in HoT. They’ll be squishier too but for class like warrior, it won’t be a huge change.

If anet wants my zerker thief/ele to be super squishy, then I expect to have the dmg to make up for it.

To me it looks like anet wants the squishy classes to be actually squishy and tbh, I am a bit worried that zerker low HP class will be just way too squishy vs zerker tankish class.

The two heavier classes get a 5000 and 8000 health boost from base attributes that they do not have to trait for be with gear or traits themselves.

That is 500 and 800 vitality built in. I hope at least IF thieves recieve a boost to baseline Vitality that there a bit more going to those classes at the bottom of the heap rather than those already at the top.
