Hello,

I am experienced thief and I need to show you main problems after expansion:
1) outplay mechanism – What is it? Why it’s so important? – I will answer these questions below.
2) Steal – Thief is balance around “Steal” – I will describe what does it mean.

General stuff about: Daredevil
In theory DD gives us:
- 3 dodges
- Extra dodge after successfully landing steal
- Signet of agility
- Energy sigil on swap weapons
- evades on short bow
- blinding powder, new block
- blinds
- pulmary impact – rupts which are completely broken

What does it mean? – what daredevil trait line changed.
1. Thief shouldn’t be balanced around “landing Steal”.
Controlling animations, cooldowns, dodges while is important. We’re not playing on “LAN”… it means that every player has different ping… so you can miss “steal”, because of delays.
DMG on thief is high and sustain is low, so if you miss your steal… then you must disengage or you’re dead (most of the time).

Outplay mechanism #Theory
Every good or decent player will try to outplay you. It means that will try to makes, for example:
- random dodge, fake cast skills
- in general… everything what may force you to waste your cds
There are moments when you have around 90% chances to land your burst. It’s never 100%, because of outplay mechanism and delays.

Outplay mechanism #Compare HoT and times before expansion
- Before expansion thieves were counting dodges, cds and controlling position for win.
- Nowadays you can’t be sure how much dodges another thief has, you must take a risk unless you’ll die. Meanwhile everything depends on your random dodges and rupts (you can interrupt AA). These duels may be skill based while you’re fighting against experienced thief. The problem occurs when you face not good player, he can win duel/fight by randomly spamming skills… you can’t predict his moves. On another classes it’s almost impossible (just note that).

Yeah steal matters too much, u can’t win if you miss it.
Pulmonary impact + headshot spam is too RNG.

Nerfs to Thief stealth and Steal has indicated that ANET wants thief to go in a new direction.

DD furthered this idea by not supporting either stealth or steal. But rather DD is moving Thief to an easier to balance combat style – Dodge.

Let’s clarify what you said.
Daredevil forces thieves to take more risk but also makes fights more rng.

1. Nerf steaL
There is delay on Steal now… but it has been changed while ago.
Steal is more important than ever before, because:
- Improvisation: recharge cooldowns, access to 2x stolen skill
- extra 1 dodge
- apply poison
- apply weakness
- Mug: heal+dmg
- rupt + pulmary impact (range 1200)

2. Nerf Stealth
Stealth is the same:
- meta has been changed so thieves no longer use “Shadow Arts”
- there is reveald
- cleave dmg is much stronger than before

3. “DD does not support Steal” seriously? – look point 1
- pulmary impact, extra dodge, access to higher burst

4. “easier to balance combat style – Dodge.” – facepalm
- more random dodges
- buff for outplay mechanics – makes fights more rng

We should have initiative as with trickery… so we don’t need to take this trait line tho.
