Question about Weapons
honestly, just play what you find fun. personally, i find dual pistols pretty boring because you mostly just mash 3 until you run out of initiative, and it is the worst thief set. but if you find it fun, keep it.
In this game, everyone every class dont stick with two weapon set of choice.
we swap (from menu while out of combat) depend on situation.
Basically (PVE)
D/X melee single target like boss
P/P range single target like boss
S/X melee a lot of mobs
short bow range a lot of mobs
P/P is highest range dps on SINGLE target for thief.
downside is lack of evade or stealth weapon skill which is important for thief.
Pistol/Dagger is the learner set as you can keep a safe distance while shooting. Start with that. Pistol/Pistol doesn’t have the same defense but it has higher damage so learn that next. You’ll find that pistol/pistol just converts your initiative into damage and when your initiative is low there is nothing left to do with the weapon set.

Pistol/Pistol is an underwhelming set in both pve and www. What Pinkcomet said, I recommend starting either with D/D to get the hang of it, or S/P for a safe leveling with blinding powder. But keep in mind that doing the latter won’t give you the best reflexes for harder encounters like pvp, WwW, or dungeons. Welcome to the game!
Thank you for the responses, I’ll try out D/D then. Kinda like a regular assassin.

Good start, but you want want a 2nd set to go with that. I like S/P for my 2nd. SB is also good to learn with.
There is an alternative way to level (opposed to S/P blind spam) which I found to be very fun, but you have to keep in mind that it is not good for later on (maybe PvP, I don’t know):
Condition. You can use the trait “Uncatchable” with the utility skill “Caltrops” and the D/D dual skill “Deathblossom” to get 25 stacks of bleed in AoE on multiple enemies. I was able to take on 3-5 enemies up to 9 levels above me once I got good with the very mobile way you have to play it. You can dodge to stack up the AoE bleed fields, use DB to keep the pressure on, and swap to SB to disengage while still doing damage.
Both leveling play styles are discussed here
