Just wanted to know what you think about:
Unyielding Anguish – Shadow steps to enemies and remove them from that point. Applies Torment on landing.
It has no CD, costs 35 energy and it pulses 4 times in 4 seconds. so basically you could get teleported outside of the aoe 4 times. you have normally two dodges.
So this skill is a hard counter against shadow refuge?

Is the displacement only during the initial strike from the revenant or each pulse?

It seems too strong in conquest if it displaces every pulse. It seems more likely it applies torment during the pulses, but I don’t know what it actually does. No cooldown also seems too strong on this skill, that’s easy to change though.

As long as there’s a tell on the leap all you need to do is dodge, and as long as it has a cooldown of more than 4 seconds, and as long as it doesn’t displace every pulse it seems simple enough to avoid. Otherwise, yes this ability would completely hard counter refuge.

And what about ppl running to tower/keep/whatever? Unyelding on portal will be better than walls? Too op i think. I’m interested what will happen if we shadowstep to portal exactly at Unyelding pulse…

Nobody will be using shadow refuge as it is now come the patch anyway, with taunt and the new aoe pulls and pushes comming you will be hard pressed to put nothing but stunbreakers on your utility bar as a thief (I do not see thieves getting access to a lot of stability and or resistance in the cards).

Utilities in HoT will be roll for initiative, shadow step and infiltratory signet (maybe shadow trap), you heard it here first.

While it remains to be seen what will happen one of the problems with introducing new classes into a game has always been this,

The designers have learned from their initial work and the things they got both wrong and right in their initial design. They then want to do even better and refine on their design theory with new concepts and “new and improved”. This of course impacts all existing designs.

I am sure there is going to be a long and painful balancing act especially once released into the hands of the players who will test and tinker until they are doing things with the Revenant that could were not envisioned.

This happens with every new class post-MMO launch. A new class is either:

Extremely weak in comparison, gets buffed a lot
OR
Ridiculously OP in comparison, gets nerfed every single patch

Revenant, if either of them, will probably be the latter, especially with the amount of precise tuning required for the energy bar that governs ALL their skills (when Initiative only controls our weapons).

So yes, it will be amazingly powerful initially but don’t expect it to last very long.

I went slightly ahead of you Dondagora:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Screencap-of-all-Revenant-skills/first#post4815153

To summarize:

-No vigor
-No evade skills
-No instant teleport skills
-No swiftness or 25% speed increase
-No invulnerability skills
-Little to no Protection or Regeneration boon uptime
-No stealth
-No non-target leap skills (besides Unyielding Anguish which seems more situational and more of a peel, a very strong one at that)
-Very little condi removal
-Lack of stun breakers

Out of combat field mobility or combat disengage is little to none.
If they don’t get to use Unyielding Anguish for melee attackers (or use it that often), they seem great focus targets!
UA seems ridiculously strong btw!

But as I said in the post I linked, we have yet to see other Legends and weapons!

People forget, that alot of these weakneses can be circumvented with Sigils and Runes..

So listing something like…no permanent 25% speed boost is ridiculous, when all you have to do is using the right rune set for example to get permanent 25% running speed.
And then theres 2 trait lines still missing, under whioch alot of the thigns could be put under, that are listed here.

Protection and Regeneration can be also circumvented with Runes if you prefer that over running fast, which isn’t needed anyway, when you play in a group that can provide aoe swiftness, like running in a WvW zerg where you basically have permanently swiftness and other buffs from the permanent aoe buffs everyone around you is using …

The rev doesn’t need condi removal alot, therefore is the Mallyx Stance, that makes you more powerful and receive heals so more conditions are on you…

Due to the heavy condition meta in GW2, having always mallyx with you is imo pretty much a must.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

strip the resistance, whats left? mallyx killing himself

if u use runes for , for example the 25% boost, u r missing out on other stats other proffessions can get cause they dont use the 25% run boost

well, ofc its missing 2 traitlines, at least 2 legends, and few weapons still, but looking at its current state, there are lots of weaknesses

Unless traits make a huge difference in revenant, they’re probably going to be extremely predictable. With visual clues as to the legend they have, and their weapon, once you learn the class you’re going to be able to know exactly what you can expect from them as their utilities are not customizable beyond legend selection.

Are they going to have good counters for existing thief strategy? Yes
Are they going to be unbeatable? I don’t really think so.

Well I really hope this statement is true, have you seen unyielding anguish? It destroys shadow refuge and doesn’t have any cool down. Good players will make them unbeatable even if faced with equal skilled player from other class.

It seems like a good counter to this could be a well timed Mugless daze steal. Especially if they’re loaded up on conditions from the demon stance. Strip resistance and watch them melt.

Even then, demon stance feels very anti condi. I’m wondering if we’d even get to the point where we’d need SR against a demon player. Thief meta is all power right now.
