Thought of this concept?
A new major trait in Shadow Arts…

Ravaging Shadow:
The final skill of a melee auto-attack chain grants 1 second of Stealth on a successful hit

It would be a major trait so it would not be forced onto anyone. It would be in Shadow Arts to give Thieves more access to the line’s benefits.

While it would affect Dagger/Pistol, it would benefit other sets without so much access to Stealth the most.

It has a natural cooldown based on the Revealed mechanic.

It would reward aggressive players by requiring a full auto-attack chain to hit, yet it grants only enough Stealth to clear a condition (Shadow’s Embrace) and to immediately hit with a Stealth Attack. Already being in melee in order for the auto-attack to actually hit, the Thief will already be in very good position for the Stealth Attack to successfully land.

Suggestions to overhaul the Thief…

Not too bad, actually – although I only land a full chain in a +1 situation anyway and I use each and everybody of my server as my pets (yes, i started as a ranger main – can’t get rid of that) = I don’t really need an extra freecard in these situations – but the idea is interesting.

This is a pretty cool idea, although it would probably be broken with the new grandmaster trait. If it replaced cloak in shadow (possibly even keeping that name) in the grandmaster slot and the blind on stealth was moved to replace shadow protector, I imagine that would make a lot of people extremely happy.

Jugglemonkey it wouldn’t be broken with Rending shade since it would be 2 boon strips every 3-4 seconds if the Stealth attack hits, and if that would be a problem they can remove the ICD on Stealth attacks and place it on Rending Shade

It not gonna be OP because your constant auto chain could cause “revealed”. Which is mean when you really need stealth, you may unable to do, because of that auto revealed

Yes, that’s why it would be a choice like Last Refuge is now… compared to what it used to be.

In fact, I still find it odd that Merciful Ambush is a required trait for Shadow Arts. I don’t always want to go Stealth when reviving… especially if I’m trying to contest a point.

Yeah, I was tired and totally forgot about the reveal timer, I don’t normally use stealth lol >.< it probably would be fine with rending shade. That being said I still think they should split the blind on stealth from cloaked in shadow and replace the regen on with just that effect, like it used to be. That change was such a middle finger to dagger offhand builds when they merged the traits, and I’m pretty sure people take the regen only if they don’t want stealth on steal messing up their combos.

I still like the op’s idea either way tho, so bumpety bump

- was crucial in a lockdown style assassin pvp build, much love, much miss, rip the true assassin.

I feel like this would break far more than it would fix. SA is mostly in a good place. Stealth on steal is already available to give thief access to stealth on a non-stealth weapon oriented weapon. It also lowers the cooldown of several utilities that also grant stealth. Thief doesn’t lack enough access to stealth to justify creating this trait. Because stealth breaks target this will only be used by other classes to justify more anti-stealth skills.

Some weapon attack patterns also complete much faster. This means Dagger/Dagger will more often be able to complete an attack chain to gain stealth. Other sets will not have that same advantage and be unable to use this trait effectively/as effectively.

Further, to me, gaining stealth is something that should be an active decision on the part of the players and not a baseline modification to auto attack.

My (new) concern/mentioning is that the baseline stealth duration would need to be 0 seconds since if at a 1s baseline it’d get modified by Meld With Shadows and then be wildly OP at 2 second durations.

SA should have a Trait that makes all Stealth attacks unblockable. It would bring SA to be more in line with being a Viable choice, as well as not breaking the game to any extent.

And as for OP this would really kitten me off with constant reveals and unintended stealth.

It wouldn’t make DA Redundant and it would open up underused trait lines to being more widely used since SA is the only trait line without a damage modifier, there are a lot of restrictions on using stealth from Reveal on attack to Aoe reveals, it wouldn’t make anything more brain dead but would give an incentive to use SA. DA has a lot more than just Executioner which needs the target to be at 50% hp or less, I would tak DA for Panick Strike alone.
