I´ve been instagibbed by a stealthing thief while 1v1 countless times. Seeing a thief with bad latency cry about a rifle warrior and demand buffs to thief dmg is just mind numbingly hilarious to no end. I´m suspecting the OP is an epic troll though lol.

Yeah, the thief used his brains against a mesmer. Nothing really special there… About the stealth, its quite easy to track mesmers in stealth, you’re slow as hell and a quick AA spam will 100% get you if you dont dodge away or blink away. what prevents you from stealthing is your reveal debuff, theres nothing that can stop someone from stealthing(not including the trap)

If you are dodging while in stealth, the thief will follow where your clones pop up.
What might be preventing you from stealthing is shattering, then stealthing, but your clones hit the thief after, dealing damage and revealing you. Ranged attacks can also cause this problem such as using staff auto, then using decoy, then the attack hits revealing you as well.

Also-a two minute fight means that at least one of you is playing a highly defensive build. You need more burst on your build.

If you are dodging while in stealth, the thief will follow where your clones pop up.

That’s an invalid question.

We’re talking about the Thief here, not the player’s situational awareness. The Thief profession should have been made by ArenaNet to support bad players (because majority wins). So if the Thief player failed horribly in playing the profession that the Thief player will still survive a 14K Kill Shot and take revenge on the Warrior for sneaking that skill on them.

The solution is to increase the Thief’s damage so that they can magically survive a Kill Shot (even a Churning Earth) because that’s the only logical way to improve the Thief. Also there should be a built-in sensor system, that automatically make the Thief dodge an incoming projectile that would kill them if it hits. So this 14K Kill Shot would never have happen if ArenaNet look out for the player who has no sense in playing a high skilled profession like the Thief.

In addition, the Thief should also be extremely agile, I mean like putting Neo’s and Spiderman’s agility together, so that even if the Thief choose to attack someone in the middle of an AoE field, and stay there, that they will survive this mind boggling bad decision to satisfy any player who plays Thief. This is what Shadow Art is suppose to be, to allow Thief to turn into shadow and only materialize when they deal damage, then turn back into shadow form again to avoid damage.

If none of these are implemented then ArenaNet failed miserably in to designing a very attractive and cool-looking profession. They just don’t know how to make a Thief. And if you disagree with me, then you’re a cool aide drinker fan boy.

Oh, we could have a spider sense trait! Whenever someone has you targeted, that player has a red glow around them. When they start channeling a skill with over a 1.5 multiplier, the aura flashes just to give us better situational awareness! Channels of 2.5 or more will automatically be dodged if endurance is available, and if endurance is not available, as signet of agility with activate and then you’ll dodge as long as you have it on your bar.

Actually signet of agility gets moved to F2 so it’s always on your skill bar.

Close enough, but we’re looking for something built-in so that it’s active even if we choose bad traits and bad utility skills our innate survival instinct will trigger to save our life. That’s how you build a Thief profession. You can’t just leave it to the players to have the reflex and heavenly internet connection to save themselves. This has to be built into the profession, otherwise it’s not even a Thief.

So two things that ArenaNet need to take into considerations; 1) bad players making bad decisions and 2) players with bad internet connections. They can start by giving Thief damage buff where we can deal 14K Backstab to undeserving Rifle Warriors (and everyone else). I think it would be easier for ArenaNet to give us a “Killing Intent” aura so that if the Warrior tries to Kill Shot us that it will only take one glare from us and the bullet will backfire on them instead.

I’m not telling you to learn to play, but if your not stealthed and you get sniped. I’m Sorry. I play a guardian, I use judges intervention to gank lighter classes all the time. That’s definitely a drawback of thief, and the upside is that your class is supposed to be able to use its speed and stealth to be able to disengage a fight whenever you want. Also don’t listen to all the “l2p” dorks around here. Half of them are just regurgitating “meta” stuff they’ve read and can’t actually pvp. If you feel your class is specifically weak in a certain area your probably right. pay attention to it. Learn about it. Do what you can to overcome it. And wait for the next balance patch

It’s easy for you to say because Guadians can block Kill Shot ever though they aren’t paying attention — all thanks to your innate ability called Aegis. Even if you get sniped or play badly or have a bad connection, your profession still heal and block attacks for you. So how can you then understand the pain and suffering that we Thieves have to endure?

If you feel your class is specifically weak in a certain area your probably right. pay attention to it. Learn about it. Do what you can to overcome it. And wait for the next balance patch

Regardless, even if I become an expert in playing Thief, we are not on an even field when it comes to PvP. While Guardians not only have heavy armor, they have passive heal and block and all other nice tool to help them survive and deal damage at the same time — Thieves get nothing. Instead, our survivability got nerfed without any damage buff compensation. So when we enter PvP, we might as well drop to the ground and play dead.

No matter from what angle you look at it, Warrior and Guardian can make their build that gives them passive heal. And what do Thieves get? Nothing. How is that fair? The counter play to those build should have given Thieves a lot of damage, I mean a lot, like able to backstab those professions for 14K even if they have 3K toughness. Thieves squishiness is a risk that should have a proportionate reward.

Let’s be real here, out of 100 players playing in PvP there’s only one Thief, this means, not everyone will become an eSport celebrity. Besides they’re the ones taking money from us through their winnings, while we (the 99%) are the ones making sure that ArenaNet employees still have jobs with our vanity pet, musical instruments, and wardrobe collections. Let’s set the priority straight. If ArenaNet cater to the bad players, with bad reflexes, and bad connections — there will be more player representing Thief in the tournament. Think of diversity.

As kittenty as it is for people with dial-up/walmart connections, my sympathy doesn’t extend beyond that, as it’s their choice to continue to play under those conditions.
Like in LoL, I always find it weird when people would make lagging their excuse, or say it’s “bad manner” to kill someone when they d/c or lagging out. Sorry buddy, you’ve set foot in an arena, probably well knowing the limitation of your connection, I’m just here to kill you and win.

That’s exactly what the OP is talking about. That Rifle Warrior is rude. Since internet connection varies from region to region, ArenaNet needs to put a fail safe system so that players with bad connections won’t be kitten in a 300vs300 or 500vs500 WvW siege.

And I agree that giving Thief a damage buff (i.e. 14K backstab) to compensate for their squishiness is the most sound and logical approach.

As kittenty as it is for people with dial-up/walmart connections, my sympathy doesn’t extend beyond that, as it’s their choice to continue to play under those conditions.
Like in LoL, I always find it weird when people would make lagging their excuse, or say it’s “bad manner” to kill someone when they d/c or lagging out. Sorry buddy, you’ve set foot in an arena, probably well knowing the limitation of your connection, I’m just here to kill you and win.

That’s exactly what the OP is talking about. That Rifle Warrior is rude. Since internet connection varies from region to region, ArenaNet needs to put a fail safe system so that players with bad connections won’t be kitten in a 300vs300 or 500vs500 WvW siege.

And I agree that giving Thief a damage buff (i.e. 14K backstab) to compensate for their squishiness is the most sound and logical approach.

Oh… man… I completely forgot what this thread is about past, page 2… Sorry I tend to get (literally and figuratively) lost past the first 1-3 pages.

Let’s be real here, out of 100 players playing in PvP there’s only one Thief, this means, not everyone will become an eSport celebrity. Besides they’re the ones taking money from us through their winnings, while we (the 99%) are the ones making sure that ArenaNet employees still have jobs with our vanity pet, musical instruments, and wardrobe collections. Let’s set the priority straight. If ArenaNet cater to the bad players, with bad reflexes, and bad connections — there will be more player representing Thief in the tournament. Think of diversity.

I’m not sure if that would be a good or a bad idea.
On one side it would be embarrassing to be represented by some of the people…
But on the other side, maybe it will make everyone clue in or easy up on the nerfs and thinking that thieves are through the roof OP.

I doubt it would be embarrassing since even those who have no clue how to play a Thief will own anyone. It would be glorious.

That’s right. The OP have convinced me that since we cannot possible deal 14k on anything, while Rifle Warrior can, that it is the logically no-brainer that Thief, and any other profession in fact, should also have this same capability.

Imagine if everyone in WvW deals 14k damage to each other and 1-shotting everyone and you’re the last man standing…glorious.

Dodging is for good players, when you have limited dodges.
it becomes more and more brainless as the amount of dodges you possess increases
(the clear difference is S/D and D/P, not even going to take about other builds/classes, note D/P has other spammable defense mechanics, but the topic is dodging here, so..)

Dodging is for good players, when you have limited dodges.
