Instead of the rifle, i’m more interested in seeing a dual focus teef for sum reason
They would never make a specialisation that doesn’t fit at least one mode name are just names, thief couldn’t have gotten traps because we already have them and they will be better after traits changes. Since it’s supposed to be a mix, with thief rifle I expect thief+war.
We’ll get rifle and shouts!

“NO-SCOOOOOOOOPE”-+50% Crit Chance for 7 seconds
“GET REKT!”-Crit hits apply 1 stack of vulnerability (10 seconds) for the next 10 seconds (no icd). Break stun
“Come at me bro!”- Taunt up to 3 enemies for 3 seconds
I think those would be sufficiently troll-y enough and fitting for the thief.
As funny as that sounds, there’s is a decent chance, considering they did say something about some class getting access to shouts.
And yeah thieves getting traps wouldn’t make sense much by what they said, but for some odd reason (maybe the introduction of ascended tier) I don’t believe them (maybe the weird nerfs, and the weird buffs/adjustments) much anymore.
Meh. At least gw2 isn’t the only game in the world.
Well, guardians are getting traps, so at least we dodged that bullet.

I reckon we will get access to the new slow condition, slow movement and skills charge would help rifle survivability, id like fear but I don’t see that happening.
We won’t get shouts lol it wouldn’t make sense to the class type but then again guardians with traps means anything is possible lol.

Yeah if you follow what Anet is doing, they are taking mechanics from one class and giving it to another.
Honestly, if we get rifle we will also likely get things like grenades and bombs. IE Engineer Mechanic.
Though, personally I would love to have clones and mes mechanics so much more than engineer mechanics.
Especially with the guard traps. Do traps currently get set off by clones?

Yeah but not really the same idea.
I would never run thieves guild, its crap with too long of a CD. Yeah it might get you the win once over some zerker class that has no idea how to play, but overall, worst Elite we have.
Im more into clones on dodge and so on. Using the same misdirection mechanics as mes.
Combined with stealth, it would change so much.

Bright side is we’re not the ones getting traps as utilities. The not so bright side is that the DRAGONHUNTER didn’t really seem awesome, even less so then the Chronomancer – which didn’t really impress me either (o well, high expectations I guess), so…. not really looking forward to the thief’s elite spec reveal – we’re either going to get a rifle with a dumb name or a torch with a dumb name. Getting a rifle with a cool name could happen but probably has a less chance, and a greatsword with a cool name is just not going to happen.QQ #firstworldproblems
Why do people care about names so much? And what’s so bad about “Dragonhunter” anyway? You hunt dragons in a game about hunting dragons… it’s alright.
We’re all dragon hunters in the game’s sense…. The name is just cheesy sounding, besides that it’s giving to a guardian… Not a deadly menacing warrior of some sort, but a noble knight in shining armor…
Warriors aren’t deadly in this game, they’re buffers.
I’m excited for it haha I play as a pp thief since launch, I know it isn’t the strongest and stuff but its fun and looks amazing and I like the challenged when playing it, so rifle will be my secondary or even main if its as fun as pp .
I can see us getting mesmer type abilities, like an evade backwards skill that leaves a clone in your place , that would be amazing.

I see what you did there…..
With a rifle the thief will obtain a lot of good skills, if you loow at the warrior or, even better, Engi Rifle. Warrior rifle have cripple and knock back, engi rifle have knock back, mobility and immobilize.
What about of a ranged weapon with something like cripple/immobilize/knockback, hide and good damage? Who will be able to catch you?
Just a wild guess but I think the role we will be fullfilling is Ranged Conditions. So, the blog post go like this haha:

4. Torment and Burn
This makes the Assaulter a force to be reckoned with if given the time to prepare. Watch your steps, because you might get Assaulted!

I wasn’t there when the game launched, but I am under the impression that they reveal the specialization in the reverse order in which the vanilla professions were presented before launch. By that logic, the last specialization we’ll hear about will be the Tempest.
I read somewhere what if the class with the hammer in the trailer was the thief, all because it looked like a engineer doesn’t really mean it was , any medium armour class can wear any medium armour so what if thief got hammer .
Most likely not tho haha
Theif is probably the most anticipated spec of all the classes so revealing it last.
As for rifle skills I hope it will have some.of the new conditions , maybe all skills have a condition would be amazing . Thief doesn’t have a condition build spec right now , yeah we get poisons/ bleeds with utilities and a few skills but having a option for a full condition build where every skills had a condition like engineer pp . That’s what I’m hoping for.
Can we still used the old utilities with the new spec or is everything locked skill/utilities wise and you have to use the ones with the new spec. I know we can pick any trait line but do we know anything about being able to use sr or signets ?

I reckon it will be like the new necro reaper spec, slow firing but with high damage. So far each spec that’s been revealed are all main weopen sets and not secondary weopen sets.
The only problem I have with thiefs is the fact that thiefs unique trait is stealth but other classes have stealth which makes thief not as special.
Pp isn’t useless at all ive played it since launch and its still my main, I havnt had no problems in pve or pvp/ wvw . Once you learn to not rely on unload and use you skills wisely and have the right setup you survive anything. I rarely die at all in any game mode .
Everyone is assuming that rifle thief will be sniper….but what if it will be something like commando? Shouts would make a lot of sense in that scenario.

Necro already got shouts,they aren’t going to give the same utilities to two different professions…now next expac, maybe…

No, steal is unique, not stealth.

Wat? Many of the stolen skills are amazing. The skill itself is also great when traited. No wonder every PvP thief traits the skill.
My bet is on a highly mobile thief spec.
When talking about the reaper, Robert Gee said mobility is reserved to classes like mesmer and thieves.
I think it hints that thieves will have their mobility enhanced in a certain way

steal is usually used for it’s blinking, porting, and the ability to combo skills with it. there’s a reason why there are some that max trickery. currently at least.

Un-traited steal is pretty bland. Traited steal can turn the tides of a fight.
Sniper makes the most sense to me. Look for conditions and CC on it trading high spike damage for controlling the target. Maybe 1500 range, too.
A sniper with a long bow?
(Again, we’re under the assumption that no two class can get the same weapon, but that’s an assumption.)
Also, it probably won’t be named sniper. Something like “Marksman”…. sniper is too modern.

Rifle skills could be fun, but they would depend a lot on the overall theme, especially the new utility type. For example, here are a couple ideas for rifle if we get elixirs, with a “chemicals” theme.
- Phosphorus shot: the casing explodes in a blast finisher when it touches any combo field, (the bullet core continues on to target as a triggered projectile finisher). If the bullet isn’t ignited en route, it does more base damage.
- Acid shot that applies vulnerability. Extra vulnerability if they lose a boon for any reason in the next few seconds.
If we get Rifle i see us getting gadgets most likely, inc commando! Oh and for people pitching traps we already have them lol they just so bad no one uses them

Thief could also get more AoE damage like Mes is getting wells but it seems less likely than more ranged power.
Long range dps / CC with less mobility seems likely to me. No reason Ranger should have all the fun. Even Guard is getting range.
I think this is the best guess. Medium to high damage auto attack (Think staff ele in fire) with situationaly good utility on our other skills (like shortbow). I doubt we’ll get cc though as our moves are repeatable so the hardest cc we currently have is a half second stun (Pistolwhip).

I’m just hoping that it is a sniper specialization. Give us a long charge time, but 2k range. Give us some type of permanent stealth out of combat that makes us move super slow, and than a real long duration reveal, so I can snipe people than run s/d and be raged at more
