I probably should have asked this in one of stickied threads, but I couldn’t delete my post. Basically I was curious which stats are best for a D/P roaming thief. I wanted to do more small scale pvp. My biggest problem is I am used to spvp where there aren’t really any stats. Also does gear boost your characters much? For instance will a player in ascended be much better than one in exotics?

The difference in Ascended vs Exotic is minimal BUT it’s still there. Although if you are looking for a Power based spec (which almost all D/P require), if you just manage to get the Ascended weapon you will see a boost of 1-2% of your damage just from that. Getting full Ascended Trinkets will provide another 2-3%, and the armor will do the last 1-2%. Not noticeable, but could surely help in some situations.
As for the stats, there are a lot of opinions on how to build a D/P thief. Just start with some zerker/valk and mix it with some more defensive (PVT, TPP) items.
Remember: the main reason D/P thieves take some defensive stats is to avoid being instagibbed by other thieves. I started as full zerker, but when you are outmanned the risk of a random D/D thief jumping in and getting a Steal→CnD→BS combo are really high. With some toughness/vitality you can avoid being oneshotted, so I usually try to stay above 2,5k armor.

For power-builds, berserker main complemented with either Cavalier or Valkyrie gear, or even Soldier’s Gear for some defense is what most people run.

The argument for Toughness vs Vitality has good reasons for both. There is even argument for full berserker with ruby orbs. , so at the end of the day, it really comes down to you, the player.

Run a build that you are comfortable with.

First of the difference in full ascended to full exotic is not minimal rather it is a big difference in stats, it comes down to the guy with the ascended stuff wearing 2 more exotic items than the other player. The amor has way more defense and you get to use wvw infusions with ascended gear, anyone calling the difference minimal is an idiot.

As a guideline get to about 3000 attackpower including food, then focus on crit chance and crit damage.

Less than 17k hp is very dangerous but still playable, spread vit and toughness as you prefer it, movment and utility can make up for a lot you need to find you personal comfort zone when it comes to health.

Sharpening stones allow you to fine balance vit vs power, since you do not lose so much damage for vit if you use those.

Butternut Squash Curry gives a lot of crit damage if you want more or run a defensive build with it and still do decent damage.

Precision scales better then power (even with lower crit damage) if you have the choice take precision over power.
