I’ve been seeing a lot of negative posts and rants on this particular part of the forums. As a PVP thief myself, I have seen the thief class shine from the early beginnings to the current decline.
So lets get positive and support each other in this time of need to keep our interest in the GW2.

My story:
Long story short, PVPing against a guardian. Steal -> C&D, 1, 2, 4, 1, 1, 1 = Blocked! Blocked! Blocked! Blocked! Blocked! Get hit once and take 1/3 of my HP. Well this is useless. Why play a class that is suppose to do a ton of damage when I can’t even do get a hit in?

I like to remember the good old times where basilisk venom went through a block. Sure you did no damage but whatever your opponent did was interrupted by a nice stun.

I did 2 tourneys recently. Since vamp runes are not allowed i had to run pack runes. There was few times when i got insta gibbed by mesmer spike dmg out of stealth w/o any tell. I decided not to do any tournaments anymore untill either thief survival is buffed, mesmers nerfed or vamp runes are allowed in tourneys.

This is why I’m of the strong belief that, in its current state, a Thief should be able to punch through any defense save for dodging and evasions. We should be the masters of finding and exploiting weaknesses. After all, a helmet won’t help you if I stab you in the eye.

The lack of communication or acknowledgement that Thief is in a pretty bad position is the worst part of it all. We took a lot of heavy hits during the specialization update like the loss of Power of Inertia and Hidden Assassin, the watering down of Resilience of Shadows by half its potency, and Shadow’s Embrace removing specific conditions instead of any conditions ( placing us in a weird point where anyone sneezing a burn at you is a death sentence ). At this point, it’s really difficult to hold faith any of these things will be addressed with the radio silence from the devs.

Was set on fire 6 times.

Tried to run away (see GTFO technique).

The clock ticked and ticked.

Guards are supposed to counter thieves but I understand we have no dmg mitigation, every time I fight against a guard I would be the one attacking and all they need to do is put down that great sword 4 mark and I end up taking more dmg that he does.

Those vids are the life and blood of morale upbringing . In June, right before the patch there were so many good quality vids of S/D, and DDs.

There are a lot fewer now, but they are still here. Mostly D/P, but they are still here.

(don’t get offended if I didn’t name you youtubers, I watched for sure)

These boys are beasts, and if whenever you feel down about how they are wrecking the profession. Keep your head up and watch these guys do work.

On the brightside, every time I manage to survive a Mesmer’s mindless interrupt, shatter, and invuln spam and beat them, I am given every right to gloat and laugh at them. (Though I usually keep it to myself or my guild, haha)

Same goes with Eles. Hilarious when an Ele face rolls through their attunements after I’ve used Infiltrator’s Return because they think I’m in stealth and they think their mindless aoe spam is gonna kill me.

On the downside… That feel when I look down on Ele and Mesmer players when I used to consider those skill based classes….

One time i was fighting a mesmer, and after a hard battle i got him down. I thought it was the happiest day in my life before i realise it was just a clone. I’m a thief.

I had a good night roaming last night for the first time in a long while. I’m finding if I just ignore D/D ele’s and condi mesmers I can kill most other things, although this is in WvW, PvP is a completely different fish.

I don’t think thief will get much in the way of buffs, but I’ll still play it. Since my healing bomb engi build doesn’t really exist anymore, it’s the only class I enjoy.

On the plus side: The current version of thief made me to a siege thrower – good for the economy as I need to buy more ballis.

also, i have to confess something…. i am really ashamed but thief became so frustrating to play that i ended up working on my champion achivements for other classes (which i didn’t consider in 2+ years of playing this game)…. currently abusing dd ele for champion magus :<

I stole from an Elementalist once, it looks like a suppository, I stabbed the Elementalist up their donkey and lo – they chill.

That’s the only positive memory I’ve had with my Thief.

I never did this on thief but rather necro but they switched spots ironically so now I do. I do agree it’s kind of fun the wrong kind but better than negativity of actually actively playing the class.
